Ugh, lighting. The bane of my development existence. That and environments got a lot of attention over the last few weeks. It's been a wild ride, and, at times, I was questioning why I decided to take the plunge into UE.

Part of the work in the transition has been making the environments look not only a bit more realistic to the time period, (while still taking some artistic license), but also using what I've learned over the last few years of development to create areas that better suit the renders and animations I'll be doing. Take a look at some of the new royal bedrooms for our queen and princesses. These were taking a couple of weeks ago, so some slight adjustments have been done since.

It took some editing, optimization, custom texture work, new lighting, and some changes to my render settings. But we've got a nice looking setup for all the characters now.
I'll have full body shots and scene renders soon, but enjoy these glamour headshots for now. Man is it nice to be able to crank out 4K renders in seconds.

The name of the game is now polishing the characters. Still some bigger items on the list, but this is helping me get everything dialed in and finding the errors I've missed.
One big area of focus has been getting hair optimized. By far the biggest performance hit of my scenes in Unreal Engine is the converted groom hair. Just adding that cuts the FPS in half. The grind continues, and I'm not going to bore anyone with details of the triumphs and agonies of the last couple of weeks. It's 2023, which I keep forgetting. I wish I could say time flies, but developing games makes you feel like time really drags. The constant development cycle certainly makes for a "Groundhog Day" feeling.
I enjoyed my limited time off and feel very good about how development is going. I did a bit of prioritization and punted a few things to Chapter 12 that I had on my Chapter 11 to do list. Figuring out what you can reasonably get done in a development cycle is half the "fun."

With that limit, and the very low numbers of Android downloads, I'll be dropping Android support for subsequent chapters.
If you only use Android to play, and you paid for an annual subscription that has not run out, let me know. I'll do what I can to make things right.

A whole lot going on right now at IT Roy HQ. Besides the dog demanding belly rubs and treats, the game is receiving a lot of improvements. Chapter 10 saw a big code overhaul that I planned to do over several releases. I quickly realized that doing it all at once (minus a couple of small things) was the best path. My tremendous thanks to my beta team that had quite a bit on their plate with extra testing for that. Many bugs were found and squashed.
