Hidden Details: Leaked footage of Sakurai restarting the hype train

Since E3 is just around the corner and Sakurai will show off the new Smash Bros for the Nintendo Switch, I thought it fitting to reveal some of the hidden details in our very first animated short, "Leaked footage of Sakurai restarting the hype train"!

If you haven't seen it yet or wanna rewatch it, it's right here.

Since this is a video, I can use timestamps! Nice!

Tropical Burn in Kingdom Battle Progress Pictures

Yeah, I did a lot of copy pasting in this one. It's very noticeable when you see me draw one background and insert it into every single frame. But I think the likes of Tim Buckley and Adam Ellis get criticized for copypasting a lot as well, so let's just say I'm learning from the greats here!

Oh I love Cranky and I love making comics that feature him shitting all over everything. I wish he was a super popular/famous character. Maybe he will be when he's introduced in Smash Switch.

Hidden Details: Stupid Shit I Used To Do In Pokémon #3

Hey everyone! I'm pretty busy this week. Just got back from a short holiday in Dublin to recharge (which was successful) and I kinda have to catch up on work I normally do every week. I'm also a bit reeling from the amount of extremely weird and exciting news of last week. Two new Pokémon games on the Switch, with generation 8 following in 2019, a new Fallout game, and a bunch of unused Pokémon? Sweet Christmas! Luckily for me, this week's Hidden Details is short and sweet! It'll again be a bl...

Ha, the reason that Blue suddenly turns Black is because there was a low opacity layer of pure black on top of him to make him blend into the background and I accidentally switched the opacity to 100%. Separate frames in the attachment!

I actually never did this, but Reddit user /u/KaIEI did. He came up with this idea!

Hidden Details: Stupid Shit I Used To Do In Pokémon #2

Another Friday, another Hidden Details blog! I find myself putting more hidden details in my comics because I know I have to write a blog post about them. Not sure yet if that's a good thing. On one hand, these hidden details should come naturally and I shouldn't have to force myself to include them, but on the other hand, the pressure of this blog ensures that I'll keep including those hidden details consistently. So far I still enjoy making them, so there's no problem yet in my opinion!

Ha, it doesn't happen often, but once in a while I'm not happy with the order of the panels in a comic. You can see me switching up panel 3 and 4 at the last minute here.

I still remember VERY carefully counting the amount of times I pressed A after catching Mewtwo. God, I was such an idiot when I was young.

Hey everyone, welcome to another Hidden Details blog! Won't be a long one this week, since I didn't hide that much stuff in this week's comic. Mostly nostalgic first-gen Pokémon stuff. Let's dive right in!

#1: Blue (or the player's rival, whatever you choose to call him), is standing in the background with his starter, Squirtle, looking all badass. I think the player choosing Charman...

The nickname screen actually took longer to make than the rest of the comic combined. Yes, I made that from scratch, is not a screenshot.

There's MUCH more where this came from. I was a special kid. Hopefully this does well, 'cause I'd really like to make more of them!

Hidden Details: Tropical Burn

Hey everyone! Welcome to a new episode of Hidden Details. This week, just like last week, I'll delve into the most recent comic we've made: Tropical Burn.

For some reason I had so much fun creating this comic. There's something inherently funny about drawing Cranky criticizing everything he sees. Maybe because I get to complain without actually complaining myself. Henceforth, I can't be criticized for my complaining because it's all Cranky's opinion.

Anyway, here we go:

Nice, colorful comic to make. For some reason I REALLY enjoyed coming up with Cranky's insults and drawing them. This might actually be one of my favorite comics so far. Hope that shows :)

Hidden Details: Dad of Boy Origins

Hey everyone! Welcome back to another Hidden Details blog!

I'm keeping it simple today by diving into our latest comic, Dad of Boy: Origins.

First of all: this comic performed absolutely PHENOMENAL. Especially on Instagram. At the time of writing this, it's sitting at 71,583 likes and 1401 comments. Our followers increased by almost 3000.

That's absolutely crazy. That's as many likes as the entire population of the town I grew up in. Numbers like these are a bit abstract to me. I j...

Nothing extremely exciting going on in these progress pictures, although it's fun to see Kratos isn't Kratos without his red markings. Lots of post-processing going on in this comic as well.

Hidden Details: Avengers Preparing for Infinity War

Hi everyone! It's actually a national holiday right now here in the Netherlands (King's Day) so that's why I'm a bit later than usual.

Over the past three weeks I've drawn 21 panels of Avengers preparing for Infinity War in their own quirky - and often ridiculous - ways. Today, Infinity War releases in America, which marks the ends of the Avengers Preparing for Infinity War-series. They've all been uploaded to www.woodenplankstudios.com and Patreon. On Twitter, Facebook and Instagram there's o...

Look, you can see my first design for Hawkeye! When I took a second look at that panel I decided he looked like an old lady, so I changed him. These panels took A LOT of time, even with my extremely fast workflow. I blame that stupid Black Order with their intricate designs.

Avengers Preparing for Infinity War PART 3

Yikes. 3 weeks, 21 panels and more than 30 characters, but I'm finally done. By the time this comic goes live, I'll be in the cinema, watching the Marvel Studios logo! I'm EXTREMELY hyped. Lord of the Rings levels-hyped, and I'm really glad that can - apparently - still happen. I thought I was getting old and boring.

Also, the animated versions of the Hawkeye and Thanos panels are way cooler:

Hidden Details: Dear Mr. Iwata

Today, I'll reveal some Hidden Details in what might just be our most popular comic ever: Dear Mr. Iwata. This comic performed absolutely phenomenal, especially on Twitter and Reddit. Which shows how intensely the community loved Satoru Iwata. As usual, we put in a few hidden jokes and references that may not have been noticed by everyone yet.

Firstly, the most obvious reference are the bananas that are hidden throughout this comic. The bananas are a direct reference to 2018-04-20 11:45:31 +0000 UTC View Post

The reason Vision is suddenly there right at the beginning is because I was experiencing a bit of a artstyle-identity-crisis and I wanted to experiment a bit. Kinda happy with how the whole thing turned out.

Oh also, you can see the original War Machine panel bottom left! I got a better idea for him so I'm saving him for later. Tony Stark/Iron Man replaced him!

In the midst of the Avengers-maelstrom that's blazing right now, I thought I'd be a nice change of pace to write a Hidden Details-blog about a Pokémon comic! So here's an in-depth look into the references and jokes made in the Mind Trucks comic!

First of all: this blog will almost completely be about the last panel, since there's not much happening in the first two. I do want to give a shoutout to the ba...

Phew. Comics with tons of different characters are always the ones that take the longest. Luckily I only have... 12 others left. Yay.

Also I forgot Bucky's nipples! You'll notice they ARE there in the official comic, but only because I added them very last minute.

Hidden Details: Flaw in the System

Ugh. I hope I'm ready to dive into this comic again, since I made this when I was VERY depressed because of the death of our little bunny and pets dying in general. But there are just too many hidden details in this comic and I wanna reveal them all, so here goes!

First things first: the bunny who made me draw this comic. Our beautiful, silly little girl Moortje. She was only 4 years old and there was...
