So I am making an art site. In my last video I told you how lost I was with it. I have 17 years of work that I somehow need to organize and show. So I'm looking for themes in my work or narratives that I can flush out, make sets of and try to write intelligently about in order to look at least a little professional.

What Makes You Native by Maria Sturm

Hey guys, 

Here's an article I found today on photographer Maria Sturm that I thought was REALLY interesting. I connected easily to this article because I'm Metis. My mom's side is British and I obviously look like my mom - very fair, freckles etc but my dad's side is Native American (Ojibwe) and French.

Back on track!

My birthday just passed and this year it really screwed with my head. 

My birthday isn't a big deal normally because I'm not "popular". I'm kinda low key and I'm also very people picky. Don't get me wrong I'm welcoming and polite when meeting strangers, if you bring me somewhere I'll work the room and make friends etc. I just don't chase them for REAL friendships. I leave my real friendships for other deep and creative individuals. 

And thus, I've never been that girl at...

I found home. (Right where I started.)

I was born in a very small town. It used to be primarily built on farms but when they started to fail large parts of land were sold to companies to build factories. If you don’t own a small business of which there are many then you work in a factory. 

Here we made wedding dresses by the truckload, seatbelts for vehicles built in Ontario and Michigan and opticals for both cameras and guns.

A part of Self Care that I'm VERY bad at....

I am very bad at food. 

Seriously.

I feel as though I’m bad at food in two completely separate ways though:

1. I don’t eat enough.

I get so happy and excited about projects and working and creating things that I often forget to eat. I don’t pre-plan any meals or do any type of prepping. The microphone for my camera got here yesterday!!

I signed the lease for the other half of my office and am getting the additional furniture moved out so I can set up a standing video space! 

On Monday I shot in a pool and I'm super excited about what came out of it. 

Yesterday I started work on both my new websites. 

And this weekend I have an in town AirBnB to shoot in and I picked out another one for next month!

WAIIIIIIIIT - Do we actually believe this stuff?

Sometimes it's just not your day.

Day hasn't gone well. Which sucks because I was having a very good run there!! I feel as though I may have knocked myself out of my comfy little bubble by driving to Detroit and bringing old stuff back into my life. Like some of the old bad Texas juju was in there as well.

I came home (to my moms) to find that all my stuff had been moved and thrown into a small room by her boyfriend. He didn't seem careful with anything and I'm hoping he didn't break my new ring...

When your an artist everyone looks at you funny - 2

Just went to buy flowers randomly and was talking to the lady at the grocery store. I wanted multiple bunches and I really only wanted orange but I'd take orange and yellow if needed.

And she was trying to upsell me to fresher flowers that would last longer. Which I get but I was like no no that's ok. She was persistent until I told her I was just going to be lighting them on fire anyways. 

Poor girl, didn't know what to say and looked at me like I was an alien.

How craving attention makes you less creative.

I do this thing lately where I want new ideas, inspiration and knowledge so I use my lunch breaks to watch or read something that is of interest to me. I think since starting about 2 months ago its had a really positive effect on my life. 

It got me thinking about what I spend my time on, what my goals are and how those things come together.
