Forgot to keep a copy of the lineart and coloring before merging and adding finishing touches D: but I instead have the bg in it's different layers!
I don't usually keep things that separated when it comes to bg's, but since I knew I'll be applying different levels of Gaussian Blur on them, I needed it all on different layers this time
And yeah I must admit, this stretches the "monster" theme pretty far, if we gonna include tiny plant people in that term; but small plant sp...

Fhew, nearly didnt finish this on time, but you can guess why I originally thought I'd just post a WIP version and finish it later-- A theme month challenge isnt the best time to get deep into a piece.
But here we are! Struggled initially quite a bit, trying to find a sketch that spoke to me; there are like 5 other tries that I didnt save.
Hmm and looking back on the coloring/rendering process, I think my problem is that I overthink it too much - that ceiling-light source really...

Huh I dont usually have many steps to show when it comes to digital paintings because I end up painting on 1-2 layers and merge them at the end,, but I just happened to add details on different layers across the process.
Though I sadly didnt keep a copy of the original sketch, thus the drabble that is left is the linework I kept in the painting as well ( of which I erased unecessary areas to keep the important things looking clean)

Got a bit caught up with the whole Discord server thing, and getting stuck at the "wings" prompt for 1-2 weeks didnt help either :'I
I've got two other prompts in progress, but they're turning out to take some time and effort ( im not going about this smartly) so I tried to keep it quick and fun with this one

Took this challenge as another opportunity to finish/clean up an old WIP that just sat around

Started this one waaaaay months ago, but I took the October Challenge thing as opportunity to force myself to go back and actually finish rendering this one to a degree!
I posted some process steps some time ago as well: https://www.patreon.com/posts/mutant-in-34942571

SO, this weekend I "attended" Lightbox Expo, ( Convention for concept art, animation, game art, etc-fans and professionals, held online due to covid ) Lots of fun! Many videos of the streams are posted on youtube, can recommend!
But specifically, for the community of attendees there was also a huge discord server made available; to gather, chat, post your work, and more! And you might guess where this is going, but being able to just hang out with a whole group of artists was really ...

Second entry for the October challenge! kinda went into crab-territory with the plating stuff? And I didn't really plan for it since I freehanded the stone formation and cracks, but it turned out to look close to a dynamic perspective-kinda thing!

Aaaahhhhhhhhh I think I'm finally done with this; I'll be shortly posting the video process of it on youtube; I started recording only after the sketch and general colors were laid down (still ended up to be 5+ hours of footage tho)
Here's the previous post that shows the sketching process:

I dont think I've ever joined a month-theme-challenge thing, because I never had the confidence that I'd be able to keep it up without missing a day or smth unexpected coming up,, (and I'm still having issues with being a tad too perfectionist,,) SO, the solution was to simple give myself a head-start. And I'm sure some might consider it to be against the rules and yadayada, but this is simply the easiest way for me to draw stressfree.
(also it's already been very fun to just do it rig...

Random character design with the sketching process as well! Started with an outfit idea, after seeing some good fashion styles from LGBT Tiktoks, and then just generally feeling appreciative of tits 👌 it just was one of those evenings, lads

Still very rough but maaaan, inspiration can come from the most random places,, so,, I came across this version of the spinning gokart boy https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I0DDWJNHLLA and was like "oh hey there's the name of that song, I've been wondering cause I actually would like to listen to it in full" Moving on to the search bar, and here we go 2020-08-17 19:30:22 +0000 UTC

I've recently gained a better grasp on how to draw dragon wings, and you might wonder how it happened; did i watch a tutorial? did i do studies? did i practice a lot? nope nope and nope, it happened by chance because I wanted to do a dragon animation in 3D class, and after weeks of fiddling with a 3D dragon model, and positioning wings in different manners, it just clicked, and I'm now able to picture/visualize them much better than previously. Like I actually can imagine where the membrane w...

Started a new piece, still in progress!
I'm trying to find the type of art I want to make,, I feel like I'm not there yet and I think the main thing I'm uncertain of is color? Something about it feels like I'm lacking, I'm not sure how to put it into words, but when I look at the artwork, the paintings I really like, with moody, somber colors, but still clear and beautiful too,, and I look at my artwork I know for a fact that there's still smth big that I'm not getting.
And it's not tha...

This one has a strenght modifier of +3 so of course I'm gonna have her be buff! And for anyone who is into DnD and wants to know, she is following the Oath of Death.
I had a lot of fun going into detail for this personal piece, and it totally would have sufficed to just clean up that very first initial design sketch, but I just wanted to go all out. (I barely know what I'm doing when it comes to rendering props, but I'm hoping to improve quickly!)

I dont know why, but I've mainly been drawing humans/humanoids right now and I have yet to work on a single doggo.
But I'm slowly getting back into things, initially I merely was able to work 1 hour at a time, but I upgraded to 2 hours today, so things are looking good

Sorry for the long break in activity, things got a bit strained nearing the deadline of the student short film ( havent gotten a date yet when it would be posted, but I'll be sharing it as soon as it is, obviously!)
And it's probably quite weird now to see my first artwork out of school to be fanart,, but I've honestly not been watching anything else other than Critical Role for the past 2-3 months, and I've been itching to draw smth for weeks now. .... I'm in really deep,,<...

basically smth that amounts to a loose practice in values/shading. I'm starting to develop a better feel for depth, and I think it's due to me previously underestimating the importance of subtle gradiation and now being much more precise on where to put the darkest spots. Previously, I would've made facial details the highest contrast areas and simply left it at that,, the eyelids and mouth contours would be the darkest area as wholes. Which fits fine for a flat line-heavy style. But by just ...

(´,,•ω•,,) Since last year, I've had this over-arching task in the back of my mind, to create artwork that would be portfolio worthy ( it has caused me a lot of stress ) since, it's been a long while since I last did any big, completed, polished illustration.
And now I was finally able to put in the passion and hours to get a sketch just right, to adjust, correct, and simply stay concentrated,, all on a piece that I feel will do well in representing how I could fit into the industry ...

it's been a while since I did a page with just wolf faces,, and I feel like I'm a bit better at portraying different faces while still keeping the same art style? Like I've done this type of exercise before, but thinking back on it, I always had to cartoonify my art style just a smidge to make the different character variations clear enough. Though I gotta admit that the varying facial expressions help making 'em look different too.
.... and man, to think that, if I had the time, I cou...

Something very loose and fun after weeks of feeling antsy.
I'm currently keeping up with a handful of manga (Kimetsu no Yaiba and Chainsaw Man amongst some of them) But today I decided to start rereading Haikyuu since I felt like I needed the feel-good nostalgia of long sports manga.
So then when I stumbled upon this playlist https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sRiruE1FaIQ this just kinda happened. Nothing ...

I feel like I dont actually have much to show at the moment, since I'm mostly just in the middle of working on the final short animation project :x but we also have a "portfolio" class, and I started thinking what kinda work I'd want to put in there to really represent me. So here's some pseudo "character design illustration" of some zombie thing I've been hacking away at (And hey, our school has been suspended for 2 weeks, so I have more flexibility on how to spend my time rn)

An unfinished sketch and some heads
But now just venting some pent up stress;
I'm still struggling to find balance, it's quite frustrating? Sitting down and getting something, anything, "done" just feels like I'm trying to make my way through sludge oftentimes. Those moments cause me a chilling feeling of dread concerning the current projects I need to work on, and I have to make conscious effort to "let go" of those thoughts since they tend to fester.
I'm also a creature of ...

Continuation of https://www.patreon.com/posts/exploration-33769436 The goal with the assignment wasn't just to make an anthropomorphic design, but mix in multiple animal types, to make a hybrid.
And while my original pick had some more diversity (Otter, bear, wildcat, goat) I much more preferred the overall look of this old croc granny.

So I spent like 2 sessions going into the direction of doing this big old bear looking dude for this last Character design assignment, just to realize that I much more preferred the look of that old crocodile grandma.
The wizardly bear was fine as well, but I felt like I've already done that kinda body/character type already and I probably would've spent too much time on just making him look different enough for me to feel less like I'm rehashing my old ideas.
Choosing a differe...
