Inktober 8 (Belated): Isaac and Malachai
One of the things I want to do here on the Patreon is gather together the drawings I've done of Marvel, DC and other comic book characters over the years. At least, the ones I've scanned before selling them at cons or through the mail.
I have a folder on my computer called "Real Frantic One" where I file all of these drawings and commissions, I was thinking about making a convention-only mini-comic reproducing the drawings along with the goofy write-ups I used to post about the ch...

The winner of the Inktober art giveaway has chosen to adopt the Dr. Herbert West, Re-Animator pin-up, so Mr. West will be traveling westward in the coming week. Goodbye, Mr. West! Good luck on finding only the freshest of corpses in your new home town. Just remember, don't re-animate where you eat, dude. Leave your benefactors alone.
FYI, the remaining 6 Inktober pinups are now up for auction on eBay. The link is here: 2019-11-12 01:46:36 +0000 UTC View Post

EDITED 11/6: The art has been SOLD. Thanks!
10" by 7", pen and ink, marker and chronic immaturity.
Buyer also gets DHC signing cards, a FPNYC bookmark and a HOF "Thank You" card from me with a little note/doodle. I'll be happy to sign the art, however you wish, as long as I can fit in the little autograph box. I'm trying to make sure I leave a space to sign drawings, I forget to do that a lot. I also have to learn if there's a way to shrink these photos. These images a...

I don't think showing off this rough layout will upset any apple carts in the publishing world. Especially since it's for one of my own projects. I should be able to post process on this soon -- I think I have photos I took as I was penciling background sections, and I have jpegs of the inks and finished colors by Sarah.

One aspect of the Patreon is to update folks on what projects I'm working on (or we're working on, if Sarah's involved). I realized it feels as if the only thing I'm involved with these days is the Patreon itself, at least that's what it's felt like this past month. Anyway, here's what's going on:
BLACKWOOD: THE MOURNING AFTER
Veronica and Andy Fish have completed the interior art for the first issue of the new Blackwood arc, with Andy handing over the lettering w...

The image for this post comes from Newtype magazine, published in Japan in 2004. The WELCOME TO ELTINGVILLE Adult Swim pilot was broadcast there, and at least one person was aware of it and decided to give it some press. This little comic write-up kills me, it's the only press or mention I've ever seen in a Japanese publication involving my work, and honest-to-Zod it's kind of awesome that it's done as a comic. I have no idea what it's saying besides the obvious, no idea if it's posi...

I did some new Fun strips for the recently-released Heavy Metal humor spin-off, Soft Wood. This is one of them, and should be new to most of you folks, if not all of you. I'll post some more on the Patreon blog for you soon.
Otherwise, we're figuring out a few things for the Patreon while getting some scripting work done. Deciding on what to release for the first full PDF for folks donating on that level, the number of giveaways for the lottery for everyone who joined up in our fi...

Panel from a 12-panel comic I'm working on for the Patreon.
The original panel is 2" x 2", it looks really weird blown up like this!
This is how I was drawing -- or attempting to draw -- in the early 90's. You can see the anxiety I had on the job in my tight pencils, heavily-referenced but still messy anatomy, honing all the lines and blacking in dark areas to prove I was trying hard (making life harder for the inker), endless detail, detail, detail. The inspiration from the Marvel bullpen of the 70's and MAD Magazine is on display, but not the technical chops.
There are still a lot of things I like about these...

This is a commission I did last year for a wedding. The couple was having pieces done to identify the table seating arrangements, and they asked me for a PC$!/HP image. Obviously this was where the more obscure and under-achieving guests were seated. Haw haw!
P.S. Wood isn't my preferred drawing material of choice.

First, I'd like to thank the folks who have signed up for the Patreon since I last posted. I had very low expectations (no, really?) and they were more than exceeded. I feel like all I'm doing is typing the word "thanks" these days, which is, of course, better than typing "I'm sorry" all the time. Or, "I didn't know it was loaded".
The point of this post is to ask what you might like to see here, as far as the blog goes. Everyone here is able to view and read my blog posts, and I'...
2019-10-10 19:30:20 +0000 UTC View PostA few years ago I almost wrote a Rocketeer story for an IDW anthology. The job got to the point where my verbal pitch was accepted, and I wrote a fairly detailed plot breakdown for the story. And that...was the last it was ever spoken of again. You can read the plot concept below, but first, a quick bit of background -- this is how jobs can happen in comics, and how they can also disappear. Sometimes for no discernible reason whatsoever.
I was asked about writing a story featuring Dave ...
2019-10-07 20:24:32 +0000 UTC View PostThanks so much for backing this Patreon. I recognized a lot of your names, many of you have been with us for quite a while and it's really nice to see all of you here. I promise to make this place fun and interesting and worth your time and attention. And I look forward to sharing my art, writing and opinions with you in a way I can't on my other social media sites. I plan to post about all our projects, although there are a few that I can't go into in great detail for contractual reasons. Bu...
