One of the things I wanted to add in the next Emerald Dawn update is animations.

Frame by frame animation is so goddamn hard and pixel art clashes with the high res art (and my results were not quite satisfactory😅) So we're left with skeletal/puppet animation. I avoided this for the longest time because deep inside I want to be able to animate frame by frame...

BUT after playing around with Spine, I changed my mind VERY quickly lol. Despite the learning curve and of course animation itself being a different discipline, I must say I'm having a blast animating my art! Seeing Rhea in motion activates neurons I never knew existed lmao

Now I'm still a beginner at animation so it will take a little bit before I get good at it, but I'm just excited to talk about it ^^ I'm gonna take a break from animation fun and to draw the November poll winners. I need to get through my backlog as soon as I can!

Please check out the Attachments for the test animation since I can't embed the WEBM. It's a short one so I recommend looping it!

Rhea & Update

Hey guys, it's been a while again.

I have a few things to talk about so here's the bullet points for those who want the tl;dr

• January and February 2023 period are paused (next charging date is on April 1st)
• June 2022 (Camilla and Yelan) should be finished this weekend
• I need to finish November and December 2022 rewards before I work on the new eroge project
• Next Emerald Dawn update is planned for May (hopefully!!!)

I've been trying to start a new eroge project, and I'm failing so badly. I keep bouncing between different ideas trying to find the "secret ingredient" or the perfect plot. I'm writing stuff every day but at some point, I feel insecure about my story and then I lose all motivation to work on it. It's starting to affect me in many negative ways.

So I'm putting the new eroge project on hold for the time being because I still need to finish June 2022 rewards and that's supposed to be done half a year ago. Oof.

But enough with the self-deprecation. I'll focus on finishing all the rewards first before I even think of a new project.

Thankfully, I still have Emerald Dawn which is such a joy to work on. I've been redrawing some CGs and outlining the first extra chapter focused on Dancing and Fitness :3 I'm well on track for a May release, or so I think, but history tells me that I'll manage to miss my own deadline again so no promises!! Again, I need to focus on art rewards right now.

Anyway, that's all for now. I hope you like my Valentines art for Rhea. I would die to experience waking up next to her. I just want to be enveloped in her warmth 🥹

Camilla Part 1

Hey guys, I managed to finish Conquest during the holidays and I wanted to give Camilla the loving she needs because I ended up really liking her ^^

I didn't want to jump to the action right away and I'm not about to make VN just for her so I figured I'd make a very short webtoon(?) instead. My paneling skill is atrocious so I went with this format haha

Part 2 will have the sweet, sweet love-making. I'm looking forward to drawing that because I need tons of practice for Emerald Dawn's Rhea's next story and the eroge! One of the frustrations I had with Emerald Dawn was that I was kind of lacking in eroticism in my art. Of course I had to balance the story and characterization with the lewds, but I definitely know I can draw better lewds!

I hope you're looking forward to Part 2 and Yelan's finished illustration! But for now, I'm gonna take a quick break from June rewards to draw Rhea because it's her birthday on the 11th, tomorrow!! I can't NOT draw something for her! ^^

What's Next?

Happy (belated) New Year! Hope you guys enjoyed the holidays. I ended up taking more time off but I'm back and I'm ready for 2023! But before that, I want to reflect a bit on 2022.

Catching up with Monthly Rewards

Let me start by saying that I'm finally catching up with undelivered monthly rewards. In summary, I haven't delivered June, November and December 2022 rewards just yet (I paused Patreon for July, August, September and October so no rewards for that 4month period)

Emerald Dawn took over my life in the past 6 months so I barely had any creative energy for anything else. But with the public release of Emerald Dawn, I can finally take a proper break from it.

New Eroge Project

Working on Emerald Dawn has well and truly reignited my passion for storytelling and gamedev ^^ And so I want to keep following that desire going forward.

I’m still organizing my notes for the new project so I can’t share anything concrete right now but I do want to share some key differences to Emerald Dawn.

1. Gameplay Focus - Emerald Dawn is 100% story. The new eroge project will be 60% gameplay and 40% story. 

2. Pixel Art Style - It's not my usual style and not everyone is a fan of this style, but I really want to try getting into animation (frame-by-frame not Live2D) and I feel like going the pixel art route is far more manageable than regular animation. Plus, it's something I enjoy doing ^^

3. Patreon Involvement - Emerald Dawn is my very personal love letter to Rhea. It doesn’t make sense to involve others in its creative process. But for the new eroge I will involve you guys in various aspects of its development, mostly through polls.

So those are the major points for the new project. I’ll talk about them in detail in later posts because I don't want this post to go on forever.

What's Next for Emerald Dawn?

Oh man, I have so many plans for Emerald Dawn! With the main story done, I can finally allow myself to indulge in even more fun stuff!

I recently saw the trailers for FE: Engage and it turns out they're adding Exercise activities. Oh boy do I have a workout routine for Rhea and Byleth 😏😏

I don't want to spoil too much so I'll leave it at that. In general, the extra stories will be lighter in tone compared to the main story.

Tackling many things at once is can definitely feel overwhelming and frankly I have my doubts if I can really accomplish all of these. But last year, I didn’t think I would be able to finish Emerald Dawn. It felt like a pipe dream. It took a lot of time, energy, frustrations, disappointments, concessions, and so many sacrifices, but in the end, I finished it, and it was all worth it. Best of all? Working on Emerald Dawn reinvigorated my creative soul 🥰🥰 I can't stop now!

I feel a little more prepared to take on more stuff this year. I’m ready for more frustrations and disappointments, but I’m also looking forward to the amazing high of making something and releasing it to the world. Let’s gooooo!

Hey guys, long time no see!

Emerald Dawn Delay

I'm really sorry to disappoint again but I need more time to work on Emerald Dawn!

I can't give an exact date for the release (because I will most likely miss it again and I'll feel even terrible) But I need about a week to make sure everything is neat and tight. I definitely think I can release within November. We're in the final stretch.🙏

In other news today, I finished all the sprites for Emerald Dawn, as you can see in the OP image. Doing sprites was surprisingly quick compared to CGs (which is kinda obvious in hindsight, just had the impression it would take me longer.) Anyway, that just means I have even more time to work on CGs now!

For some reason I started doing pixel art whenever I get too stressed out with writing or drawing CGs. I find it so relaxing. Something about having a small canvas and limited details is just so refreshingly satisfying for me.

I'm really in love with pixelart and I'm seriously considering using it for my next project. Partly because it's "simple" (I don't mean this in a negative way, just don't want to get into details rn) but mostly because I really want to do animations! It's exciting but... that's a topic for another day hehe!

It'll take a little while before I can work on the June rewards because I want to focus on Emerald Dawn right now, but I'll get to them as soon as Emerald Dawn is out! Now back to CG work!

Wiz & Emerald Dawn Release Date

Hey guys, been a while again! I have a lot to talk about but let me give you a quick rundown before I go in depth.

• May rewards were sent out a week ago (if you paid for this May ie you were charged in June and didn't receive a message, please let me know!)
• June Character suggestions will go up later
• October period is paused meaning you won't be charged on November 1st and there are no rewards for this month (note that July, August, September were paused as well, so there are no rewards for those months)
• Emerald Dawn 1.0 release date is November 20, 2022

I apologize for not posting more often. I make it a point to post only when I have something new to show.

I've been really busy working on Emerald Dawn CGs and I couldn't show those off for obvious reasons. Anyway, I managed to add about 13 unique CGs! Most of them are still unfinished but they cover most of the scenes. That number could still go up because I just can't seem to stop myself from adding more CGs! 😅😅

As outlined above, the final release date for version 1.0 is on November 20, 2022. Why this specific date? Well, I definitely need more time to polish everything. Another big reason for that date is it's the anniversary of Emerald Dawn! I officially began Emerald Dawn back in November 20, 2021!

Here's proof of my initial commit ^^ (see the post gallery up top if this image is too small)

Quick tangent, I saw Wiz as my profile picture on Github and got the sudden urge to draw her, and so I did :D

Currently, the script is at 17K words. Not much added, but I actually re-wrote some scenes a bunch of times (mostly the ending) because I just can't be satisfied lol. Apart from writing and drawing CGs, there's still a lot of things to do (finish sprites, BGs, UI, adding sounds and music, etc etc) But I think I can manage all those in the next few weeks!

Unfortunately, I can't show most of my progress over the past month or so since it's mostly CGs and writing. But here's a little transition I did to show the passage of time, this might look familiar for those who played the game ^^

I quite like the effect ^^

And.... I'm afraid that's all for now. Not a whole lot to show right now but the project is shaping up really well and I'm really excited for the release!

There's still a lot to be done but I'm super motivated more than ever because I am actually nearing the finish line! That really means a lot to me as someone who constantly starts projects but never finishes any of them 😭😭

Shuuko WIP & Emerald Dawn Delay

Hey guys, long time no talk again. Let's just get right into it~

I'm pushing the 1.0 release of Emerald Dawn to a later date. I'm really sorry but I just couldn't make it in time and there's still a million things to do.

Here's an estimate of the progress so far:

• Sprites: 70% (All basic sprites are done but most of the sprites still need a shading pass and expression sets)
• Backgrounds: 80% (A few of them still needs polish)
• Music and SFX: 100% (I have all I need at the moment ^^)
• UI: 80% (need CG gallery and need to redo Main Menu)
• Writing: 95% Word count is currently around 16K (the initial release had about 10K.) My estimated final word count is around 16K-17K. It's not a lot because I don't want to drag out the story.

So what's missing?

A whole lot of CGs lol! I held off drawing CGs because I kept rewriting scenes and I didn't want to draw stuff that I wouldn't use. Writing took forever but I'm really happy with the current script so I can finally go all out with CGs now!

As for deadlines, I can't give a definite one, but I want to see how far I can go until the end of the month. After that I should be able to better make an estimate. I definitely want to finish the 1.0 sooner rather than later because of many reasons I can't get into right now.

Anyway, to sum up overall progress is about 60%.

Rhea on her beloved Star Terrace

I don't have a lot to show art-wise this time unfortunately ^^; Most of the progress in the past few weeks has been on the writing side and a little bit of CG sketches. I can't show them because spoilers but I think both writing and CGs are turning out well. I have to admit, I was stumped on how to connect all the events that I planned out. The good news is I'm slowly tying things together :D

The more I write about Rhea the stronger my love for her grows and I'm compelled to put my best foot forward. So I added a few emotional/healing scenes because I feel it helps contrast and build up the sexy scenes. And I think it adds depth to Rhea's and Byleth's relationship beyond just physical intimacy. I also wanted to avoid writing just non-stop sex because I feel like that's a disservice to Rhea.

Anyway that's all for now! I'm going to put up the May Character Suggestions post shortly so we can get that started too~

Camilla WIP and Patreon Pause

Hello frens, I wanted to make a post about Pausing my Patreon for July and August. Meaning you guys should NOT be charged on August and September (note for those unaware; my Patreon is set to charge at the 1st of the month). I'm doing this for several reasons:

1. I haven't finished April rewards yet and I'm still 2 months behind (May and June rewards) I don't think I can realistically finish rewards at a decent pace if I take more;

2. It will give me more time to work on Emerald Dawn. I'm still aiming for the September 17 release. In the worst case scenario, I'm willing to pause September as well so I can finish it within that month (meaning you wont get charged on October)

I seriously want to finish it by then, not because I'm sick of it, but because;

3. I finally pieced together what I want to make for my original ero project! 

Now, I can't talk about that project yet because I need to get in the habit of finishing what I start haha ^^ So rest assured that I'll finish the remaining rewards first, then finish Emerald Dawn, and only then will I start the other ero project.

But I am excited to finally have a clear vision of what I want to make. I guess it's all thanks to the games I've been playing recently (Grim Dawn, Dinkum and Atelier Ryza 2 ^^) Not saying it's going to be directly inspired by those games, I just played those games the most. Anyway, I'll talk about that ero project in more detail later!

Oh I also replayed Neptunia: RB3 for a little bit and was inspired to draw Iris Heart again. Man, why she gotta be so damn hot I couldn't get past a certain point without getting the urge to draw her ^^

Naturally, this will have a variation ^^

And lastly, I couldn't help myself from working on Emerald Dawn for a bit so here's a sprite WIP of Anna (with a bonus BG WIP) Anna will play an important role in the continuation of Emerald Dawn so I had to give her a sprite!

In other news, I've been working on Emerald Dawn again! I thought I'd start with finishing sprites and backgrounds since they are easier to do than writing :P

Originally, I wanted to do full 3D for the backgrounds but after several hours of failing with texturing and lighting, I realized it'd be faster just to paint BGs by hand lol. 3D still saves me a ton of time since I can rapidly mock up a scene.

Here are a couple before and after shots for comparison:

And you know what? I'm in love with the rough hand-painted look! Moreover, these took no time at all compared to making everything in 3D. These painted BGs took 2 days (though the first one is not quite done yet) For reference, Rhea's room took me about a week to make and even longer to feel truly satisfied with. I just don't have that kind of time (and patience :P)

69 DAYS

There's only 69 days left until September 17 (for those unaware, it's my deadline for Emerald Dawn's 1.0 release) I swear it's a coincidence but anyway I really need to get back on track! I had to take a quick break for and that actually ruined my routine. I always find it funny when it takes me a couple of days to remember how to draw lol But anyway, I'm ready to get back to the grind! ^^

But that's enough talk, don't want this to be a very long post. I'm going to set up the character suggestions very soon so we can get April rewards going! Hope you guys are doing well ^^

Mai WIP & Setting Goals

Hello again friends! I'm slowly recovering from the crunch for Emerald Dawn, but I can't help but talk about it again! 🤣

Biggest thing I wanted to say is I'm setting the 1.0 release of Emerald Dawn to September 17, 2022 (roughly 3 months from now). It's a significant date for me because I posted my first Rhea art back in September 17, 2019! So I wanted to make the 3rd year anniversary of drawing Rhea extra special with the release of 1.0 🥰🥰 This date is the public release, but you guys will get early access for about a week or so.

I said in an earlier post that I can finish the 1.0 version in 1-2 months, but that's a massive overestimation🤣🤣 Here's what my work week looked like last week, the run up to 0.5 release:

A combined total of 52 productive hours. If I'm like 5 years younger I'd do this shit all the time no problem. But at 31, I feel too old to be constantly pulling all-nighters lol So I'm gonna be reasonable with myself and give myself more time to spread out the work. Don't want to work myself to death or burn out in the process!

But I can't keep neglecting my other commitments! A lot of you guys are here for the sexy art and not necessarily for my art projects. And so for the next week or so I'm going to marathon finishing all the backlogged rewards (March, April and May, plus June.) And after that, I'll do my best to finish rewards while I'm working on Emerald Dawn, so hopefully I won't have to delay rewards for so long.

I'm going to post WIPs every couple days because I want to be more active and also because I have stuff to talk about ^^

Speaking of WIPs, I'm nearly done with Mai(she has a couple of variations)! I'm trying out a new style for rendering close-up's because I feel like my usual style is a little lacking on that front. I noticed this when I was drawing the Rhea CG's and I felt like I could do better. But I already drew some CGs and I couldn't really redo them since I was on a tight deadline.

Yes, I managed to circle back to Rhea LMAO I feel like everything I'm doing is so that I can draw a more delectable Rhea. It's a worthy endeavor in my book, at least! ^^

Emerald Dawn v0.5 Release

Friends, Mommymen, Rheabros, I'm proud to present to you the initial release of Emerald Dawn, my very own Rhea Fan VN! LETS GOOOOOO🥳🥳🥳

First off, massive thanks to TJ Huckabee for editing the script! The script would have been 10x worse without his help. Give him some love!

Second, since this is the initial release, there are plenty of missing stuff that sadly didn't make it/are currently WIP. I'm listing them here so hopefully you know in advance and so their absence/WIP state don't detract too much from the experience. Everything will be fixed/added as we go higher up the versions.

• This version has no music or sounds
• Except for Rhea's room, all backgrounds are placeholders
• There are no face sprites for characters other than Rhea and Byleth
• Most sprites are unfinished (no shading/expressions)
• UI is placeholder (including the title screen)

Rhea VN (Emerald Dawn) Update!

Hello frens long time no talk! I'm sorry for the radio silence, I've been swamped with work on Emerald Dawn (title for my Rhea fan VN) and I didn't know what to post without going into spoiler territory or without being redundant. Anyway, let's talk about some updates!

• Delay - I'm sorry to start with this but I need 1 more week to go over and polish everything 🙏 Initial release is moved to June 17! 
• Initial Release (version 0.5) -  I would say that the project is 50% finished at this point. Word count is currently at around 9K and there's a good number of CGs in the VN. Although far from what I would call finished, I'm pleased with the contents of the initial release so far.  
• Version 1.0 -  I've already mapped out the "Main" scenario of Emerald Dawn so all that's left is to finish the thing and I'm very committed to doing that (or until Nintendo stops me lol.) I can't put a definite date for the 1.0 release, but based on my progress in the past month, I believe I can reach 1.0 in the next 1-2 months. Do note that Emerald Dawn is a kinetic VN/linear VN meaning it has no branching paths/player choices. It's a focused story about Rhea. That being said:
• Beyond 1.0 - I'm entertaining the idea of adding self-contained stories that don't necessarily tie in with the main scenario. For instance, I have a scenario with all the Rhea variants from FEH and I'm dying to write that lol. Manuela also deserves a side story because I found a new appreciation for her while writing Emerald Dawn ^^ Basically, I still have a bunch of scenarios that I want to write, but some of those scenarios may be better explored in different contexts. That brings me to:
• Other Project(s) - Working on Emerald Dawn is honestly the most gratifying self-indulgent thing I've done in years. But I have so many more stories to tell and I don't want to restrict myself to Rhea/FE3H. I think I mentioned this before, but I'm working on an original Fantasy Eroge, which is currently on hold since I'm spending all my energy on Emerald Dawn. I'm going full force on that after I wrap up Emerald Dawn! ^^

tl;dr Emerald Dawn initial release is moved to next week, June 17!

I also wanted to talk about Patreon Rewards. As you can see above, I haven't delivered March, April, and May rewards yet. However, I will marathon the rewards after the initial release of Emerald Dawn next week!

March's poll winner was Mai Shiranui, with Manuela in close second. Please note that we haven't held April and May polls yet. We'll do those after I deliver March rewards.

I'm changing the monthly Patreon rewards a little bit: I'm going to draw just the 1st and 2nd poll winners so it's easier for me to deliver said rewards and so that I have more time for Emerald Dawn/game dev. I know that not everyone is into VNs or eroges but I'm really invested in it and I am pursuing it going forward.

Rewards & Rhea VN Update!

Hello frens, long time no talk, hope you all are well!

Before anything else, I sent the February Rewards yesterday. As usual, if you paid for that period (ie you were charged in March) but have not received a message with the rewards link, let me know!

I've been really slow on getting the rewards out because I've been spending all my energy and creativity on Rhea's VN lately. I can only ask for your patience as I juggle between the VN and the monthly rewards. (On that note, I'll start the March suggestion/poll soon!)

One thing is for certain though - I want to keep working on ero VNs after I finish Rhea’s ^-^ As I mentioned before, this year is the year of the OCs and I’m committed now more than ever to making my own ero VN projects going forward. I’ll talk about all that in more detail when the time comes, but for now let’s talk about Rhea’s VN

Last update I talked about how I would start drawing the H-scenes for the VN, and oh boy that I did! ^^ I wish I could show you guys some of the CGs but that would defeat the purpose of the VN. I honestly believe that the writing supplements the CGs pretty well, so I think you'll just have to wait for the release for the full experience ^_^

Anyway enough teasing about that, let's talk about stuff that I can show you!

As you can probably tell by the OP image, I’m starting work on finishing up the sprites! I'm actually in the process of redrawing the sprites because I'm using a different lineart brush again. Here's a comparison of the new(left) versus the old(right), they're both WIPs but it's pretty clear how crisp and clean the new version is. The old one was good but I just felt that it was a little to rough in the end.

Moving on, some of you probably recognize the character next to Rhea in the OP image, but for the uninitiated, she is Manuela. Other characters appearing in this story are Shamir and Catherine (possibly Flayn and Seteth, if time permits). Before anyone asks, No, they will not have H-scenes, they play important roles in this story so I wanted to give them sprites. This is strictly Rhea's VN so all the focus is on her.

On the topic of writing, I finally found a way to organize my outline that really works for me, and that solution is to use flowcharts! It's kinda basic if you think about it, but as a visual person, this really helps unclutter my mess of a mind and organize everything in a clean visual manner.

This is important because compared to having a gigantic google doc listing all the events, a flowchart simplifies everything and actually enabled me to just point to scene and just dive in and work on it. Here's the first half of the story in flowchart form, the red circles indicate a CG or CG sequences.

It's simple but very effective for me^^

Lastly, I finished up customizing and implementing some of the in-game screens (options screen, save and load screens, and confirm screens) pictured below. They're not the most important stuff but they're a critical part of the game nonetheless, so I had to customize them. All that's left are the Title Screen and the Gallery.

And I think that's all for this update! To sum it up, I drew a bunch of ero CGs, discovered flowcharts to help me write the story, started polishing up sprites, and worked on presentation.

With this, I feel confident that I'm on track to finish the project on June 10. That's only 43 days from now or 6 weeks. Like I said before though it's a soft deadline, so the plan is to release whatever I finish up until that point. But honestly, I'm pretty excited because I think I might just finish it in time! ^^

Alright, I think I'm gonna end it here. I know that I disappeared for a couple of weeks and delivering your rewards has been negatively affected by this... But I'm starting to develop a routine of working on the VN and drawing non-VN stuff. My hope is to be able to do both more efficiently at the same time, so I'll be able to progress on the VN and share that and also draw rewards/other art faster. Developing a new routine/habit is a pretty big deal so unfortunately it does eat up a lot of time and energy, but like I said earlier, I'm committed to making this dynamic work (making ero VNs while drawing other stuff) going forward.
