Call for Suggestions - Goblin Adventure and Tables

Hey all!

I've written up a quick goblin-themed adventure titled "Goretooth's Grottoes", which should debut by the end of this week with all the bells and whistles. It's a pretty quick, short and sweet, scalable from 1st to 8th level adventure.

I've already got a d100 table of goblin loot that will go in it. Plus, I'm getting some art made up for it. However, I figure that if I'm going to "fill space" with art, I might as well toss in some cool tables, too.

I've already...

[Free] Principia Etherealis: An Exposition on the Cosmos Post-Necromancy and the Foundations of Etheric Science (Chapter 1, Section 1)

Update 3/15/23: Added in sections 2 and 3 covering classes and backgrounds.

Prior to 1347, the scientific community largely embraced a mechanistic view of the universe, grounded in observable phenomena and the principles laid out by the likes of Aristotle and Ptolemy. The cosmos was understood as a finite, orderly system, with the Earth at its center—a belief unchallenged by the empirical evidence of the time.

One-Word Prompt #134 - Curse of the Bone King

Hey all!

I'm writing up a new adventure for this month titled "Curse of the Bone King." It features, well... UNDEAD. Is it a secret sequel to Shrine of the Emperor of Bones? Who can say!

Either way, gimme some prompts! Leave a single word down in the comments and I'll transform a room into it.

Usual rules:

1) One word per patron
2) Keep it clean
3) No proper nouns
4) Nothing too anachronistic
5) Defenestration is banned due to overuse (I can only throw char...

Poll #424: Random Table Stuff

Hey folks!

Bob and I are here at GAMA Expo in Kentucky, so we might be slow to make replies. The last few posts showed that we're working on random table stuff. I'm also tracking the likes on certain content.

As it stands, the best performing release last month was the "So You've Found a Book..." random table selection, whereas the Birdfolk release only did so-so. So I want to do a poll to see what sort of random table collections you'd be interested in. Vote for as many as you li...

[All Patrons] The BroadSword Guide to Birdfolk Nests (Lots of Useful Tables)

Need a birdfolk nest or lair? Use the tables in this document to generate a complete birdfolk nest.

This is just one part of a larger book I'm working on, but thought this was tight enough to go ahead and share. Expect a few more docs and then the final book once it's done. This is pre-proofed, so it may include some types or mechanical errors.

Tables include:

  • Birdfolk Group Names
  • Birdfolk Nest Purpose
  • Birdfolk Nest Locations
  • Birdfolk A...

Poll #424 - Player-Facing Content?

Hey peeps!

Happy March!

I'm wrapping up the Birdfolk book and will be starting on one for Crusaders soon. Got me wondering, though: do y'all like player-facing content? Since Crusaders will have a lot of options for paladin-inspired quests, I'll probably toss in some special variants on the paladin class to better fit the period.

Poll #422—BroadSword Guides

Hey all!

This birdfolk book I'm cranking out has been pretty fun and, frankly, useful as hell. It's got everything you could possible need to run birdfolk adventures. Thus, I'll probably do more of them, each one focusing on a specific monster or other form of information.

Having said that, what monster should I zoom in on next?

I've gone through the Monster Manual and listed all the "A" monsters. Pick the one you like best. Top answer wins. Any that get over 20% of the vote...

  • Birdfolk Nest Construction
  • Birdfolk Nest Defenses
  • Birdfolk Nest Ground Access

Sample Loot Tables: Birdfolk!

Hey all!

The biggest request for random tables were loot tables. So I cooked up this loot table super quick using the DMG as a guideline and tossing in some random junk.

[All Patrons] So, You've Found a Book... Random Book Generator for Fifth Edition

Hey all!

Recently, I started reading a book about anthrodermic biblioplegy—books wrapped in human skin. While the subject is creepy, it's pretty interesting, especially when you realize just how common this practice was, particularly in the 1800s.

This got me to thinking about how much I suck at describing random books found in dungeons. Books have a lot of value in a fantasy/medieval environment. In fact, a common book in D&D 5e is worth 25 gp and a spellbook without spells...

Nestled in a serene valley surrounded by whispering forests, the Temple of Peace is an open-air commune where tranquility and harmony blend seamlessly with nature's rhythm. Here, the people live in a state of blissful serenity, their lives a testament to the pursuit of peace at all costs. However, beneath this veneer of tranquility lies a controversial practice that has drawn scrutiny and fear from the outside world: the sacrifice of outsiders, believed by the commune to be essential for main...

[Free] Forensics for Fifth Edition - Introduction (Feedback Welcome)

Hey all!

This is the start of my "Forensics for Fifth Edition" supplement that I'm working on that applies real world forensic investigation techniques to the world of Dungeons & Dragons, where magic is real. Before I go too deep, I wanted to show off the introduction and assumptions section so you get an idea of where my head's at when working on this material.

Read the section and assumptions below. Then, if you have any feedback or questions, let me know down in the comment...

[Copper+ Patrons] Journey Through the Cyan Desert - A "Build Your Own Region" Kit for Fifth Edition (Levels 5 to 7)

Journey Through the Cyan Desert is a “Build Your Own Region” Fifth Edition encounter kit. It is designed for four to six characters of 5th to 7th level. The Cyan Desert is a grim expanse of lifeless sand, titanic pillars of salt, and the ruins of a long-forgotten civilization.

How to Use This Encounter Kit

Call for Suggestions - Deserts and shit...

Hey folks!

I just wrapped up this month's rather large adventure thingie titled "Journey Through the Cyan Desert," and now I'll be making Dead Goblin Hole.

Since deserts will eat up the majority of this coming BroadSword, I figured I'd keep the theme going.

What sort of deep dive desert content would you like to see?

Tell me in the comments!

Poll #421 - Weird Content Ideas... Pick One!

Hey all!

I went on a deep dive binge session on occult stuff and forensics this weekend and thought it'd be cool to bring this content to 5e. Below, I've listed some ideas of stuff I'm interested in writing.

Pick the ones you like best. Once I'm done with haunted houses for 5e, I'll work all this up for ya. If I'm still "feeling it" after I'm done with whatever gets voted on, I'll make the next one and so forth.

Status Updates on Content

Hey all!

Just checking in and letting you know that I'm currently working on a couple things to release. First up is Journey Through the Cyan Desert, which is a big document (10k words or so) that lets you explore a big weird desert that's a bit like a modular dungeon.  Alongside that, I'll have an adventure called Dead Goblin Hole based on a Dyson Logos map that I'm currently running as a DCC adventure for my Friday night group.

Call of Suggestions - BroadSword Issue... 26? content

Hey all!

I'm working on content for the new BroadSword today. I just wrapped up a big ol' 10,000 word encounter kit document (it's cool, you'll dig it), but I don't know what else to make this month. So be my muse.

In the comments below, tell me what kinda stuff you wanna see. If it's within reason and sounds cool, I'll make it.

I look forward to what you suggest!

One-Word Prompt #134 - Journey Through the Cyan Desert

Hey folks!

I've got an interesting new idea I want to try out based on the last DCC game I ran. It's going to be a big ol' desert setting that can be explored and will have all sorts of unique encounters. The desert is called the Cyan Desert, because it has blue sand. Get it?

Anyways, I need some one-word prompts to fill out the encounters there.

Usual rules for OWP:

1) One word per patron

2) Keep it clean

3) No proper nouns

[Poll #420... tee hee] BroadSword's New Size

Yo!

If you didn't see my last post, we're returning to making our monthly 5e book anthologies, BroadSword Monthly. Originally, BSM was done in 8.5 x 11" black and white softcover. And while it'll still be softcover (hardcover is super expensive to print with anything less than 1,000 copies), I'm not sure what size/design I want to make.

I have three options.

  • Letter/A4. This is the "traditional" size for RPG books, being the size of a typical piece of p...

Hi. I'm DMDave. And I have ADD.

Hey everyone!

Those of you who've followed me forever probably know that I have the attention span of a coked-up gnat. As I've worked to improve my creative abilities, I've also worked to improve my creative method—namely, fighting my own waning attention span. Sometimes, the things that seem awesome to me a few days ago lose their luster later. If I don't strike while the iron is hot, it fades, and my attention goes elsewhere.

This has happened with Valtoria/Ph...

Phantasmal Killer Updates - How do you want them?

Hey all!

Since we're trying out the new "crowdfunding" model this month, emulating Kickstarter/Backerkit campaigns with this Patreon, that means we'll probably have far fewer actual content releases in the early part of the month, saving everything for the back half.

However, I want to make sure you all know we're keeping with our schedule. Therefore, I'm interested to learn how you'd like releases?

Sorry for the lack of updates on this one. I've been diligently working behind the scenes on the current Backerkit campaign as well as getting Gamemaster's Survival Guide out, and assets for Badge Quest organized.

[Adventure Backers] Dungeon24 - Mistfall: The Vanishing of Ostenwold 15/366 (Locations A and B)

THE CLENCHED FIST SMITHY

Before the people of Ostenwold vanished, The Clenched Fist was run by a giant of a human, Horst Blackfoot. Some said he had Goliath blood in him, but his thick black beard suggested otherwise. Although his wares were well known for their quality, his home was far too luxuriously decorated for a humble blacksmith—that’s because Horst ran an underground bare knuckle fight club in the cellar.
