Phasm | New Monster for Fifth Edition (Patreon Exclusive)
A return of a classic that I needed to cook up for a 3rd edition adventure conversion.
Enjoy!

An oldie, but a goodie, this one originally came as a request from one of my favorite patrons, John W.
Hope you enjoy again, John!
2019-03-31 06:00:01 +0000 UTC View PostHey! If everyone's wondering where the requests and daily stuff are, don't worry. They'll pop back up soon. End of the month is tomorrow, so I need to sew up a PDF. I've still got my assistant working on a monster book and I'll have a magic book to go with it. The book will have both new and old material.
I know a lot of folks like the bigger PDFs, so I want to make that the focus. It usually takes me about 12 hours of work to put together the bigger books, so it could be a few days. 2019-03-31 03:52:50 +0000 UTC View Post
Sorry I missed a PDF yesterday. But as you'll see from this, it took a little time to put together. This is a throwback to our old Gods of Wandrossa game: Avelynn, the Mother of All.
Now we'll need to debate: who can win in a fight against Tiamat and Avelynn?
Edit: fixed a boo-boo in the copy.
2019-03-29 13:49:03 +0000 UTC View PostI recently got some pretty good feedback in an exit survey. I sent them a reply, but I thought I'd share it all with you, too. As you know, there's been a number of changes to the format here on the Patreon over the last couple months.
Here is the feedback:
Sorry Dave. You seem to jump from project to project, you make promises then change them at a seeming whim (forget Wonderossa, GoW, monthly pdfs, and the initial offer of Braodsword pdfs for all tiers... we'll go... 2019-03-29 09:27:54 +0000 UTC View Post
This is one of the first requests I've done for the new batch, a Barbarian subclass that gets stronger as it takes damage.
In addition to the subclass, I threw in five cool magic items that are definitely Barbarian-centric.
Enjoy!
2019-03-27 22:30:09 +0000 UTC View PostHere's today's PDF! Sorry it took a while. Obviously, I was in the middle of doing Kickstarter haha, but the good news is that everyone from Tiers Electrum and Up will be getting BroadSword Magazine when it debuts late summer!
Anyways, enjoy the PDF.

Hey everyone!
BroadSword magazine is officially LIVE on Kickstarter, and already we're half way to our funding goal. Should have it smashed out before lunch time.
If you're a Patron at the $15 Electrum level, you'll already get a digital copy coming your way in addition to the other patron benefits.
If you're a Patron at the $25 - $50 (Gold and Platinum) level, you'll get a physical copy.
Either which ...

Starting off with the new way of doing things, I'm putting it out there for everyone to tell me what I should make for tomorrow.
I'm open to anything. I'll pick one and make it. :)
Let your imaginations go wild!
2019-03-26 00:52:03 +0000 UTC View PostHey everyone!
I just wanted to give everyone a heads up to the tier changes that will be going into effect next Monday, April 1. I've been thinking these over for a while, and some of the decisions weren't easy, but hopefully I'll still be able to provide the same value to each and every one of you.
Here are the changes to the tiers:
A gloom is an assassin that cloaks itself in supernatural camouflage, lingering in the periphery of vision and stalking its prey from the deepest shadows. A gloom looks very much like a human from the neck down, with dull, rubbery black skin. Its head, however, is another matter. Completely devoid of hair, the gloom also has no eyes. Its distended, exaggerated mouth, drawn back in a perpetual fiendish smile, is full of jagged black teeth. Despite its apparent lack of ocular organs, a gloom se...
2019-03-25 14:25:10 +0000 UTC View PostA few days ago, I posted asking you all what sort of stuff you'd like to learn about for Fifth Edition. This one comes from Gilyth:
How to make monsters for a specific CR and conversely how to assign a CR to a monster you've already made
This is a pretty fun one and one that I've mastered over time.
If you ever come into my work office, you'll notice that there are two pieces of paper haning over my desk. O...

Wand, rare
This black wand is created through the joint efforts of evil clerics and high level necromancers. This wand has 7 charges for the following properties. It regains 1d6 + 1 expended charges daily at midnight. If you expend the wand's last charge, roll a d20. On a 1, the wand shatters, turning into bits of broken bone.
Animate Dead. While holding the wand, you can use an action to expend 2 charges to cast animat...

Hey folks! Great news today. Broadsword Magazine has officially been announced.
I'm still working out the logistics for those of you who are subscribing, but it's likely that all tiers of Silver or higher will receive at minimum a PDF copy of the magazine when it comes out, with Gold and Platinum likely getting printed copies, too.
The Kickstarter date is officially next week. If you're interested in winning a FREE 12-month subscription, check out the Gleam contest above and share...
2019-03-19 18:23:22 +0000 UTC View PostRecently, I put together an extensive adventure involving a shit ton of wizards. On top of the dozens of new spells, magic items, and monsters I need to stat up for this adventure, I also could use some ideas for wizard subclasses. Just wizards, no sorcerers, warlocks, etc.
I've kept this locked for only gold and up patrons.
Let me know your ideas below!

I had this multi-tiered conundrum.
1) I have this Patreon that's getting pretty popular and folks want content and requests.
2) I've talked about doing physical swag on here.
3) I want to do a Kickstarter soon (for The Secret of Forsaken Speak).
4) I'm worried that all these seperate things are too much.
5) I love old Dungeon and Dragon magazines (two different magazines for those who don't remember) and kinda wish they were still in print.
That's when it h...
2019-03-17 23:48:08 +0000 UTC View PostHey everybody! Hope you're having a good pre-spring so far.
I've been totally blown away by how fast this Patron is growing. Each and every person that comes in is pretty exciting.
Having said that, the requests are also putting me in the weeds like crazy. And as a result, I'm taking too long to finish things or the quality is starting to dip. These are two things that I really don't want to see.
Moving forward, I probably need to make a change. So I thought I might tu...
2019-03-16 00:39:21 +0000 UTC View PostHey guys!
If you put in a request and it gets made and there's something you don't like about it, just ask me to edit it. Unless it's a huuuuge overhaul, 9/10 I'm likely to do it. And if there's something specific you want to see in a design, let me know in advance.
My creation methods are almost always the same: I take something that preexists in Fifth Edition and try to keep it balanced with what it's compared to. This is much easier than trying to break the entire m...

Gnomes love to tinker. For a gnome, each new creation is more than a product of effort being brought into the world. It's a challenge worth pursuing. Therefore, it's not uncommon to find gnome laboratories filled with all manner of projects. And for many expert tinkers, the pinnacle of tinkering is in the creation of life. Hence clockwork creations.
A clockwork creation appears as an animal in every sense. It has the same size and basic shape as a similar living creature of its type. It...

Few creatures in the Nine Hell inspire as much dread and fear as the horrendous beasts known as helldrakes. Used in the infernal armies as shock troopers, these vicious wyvern-like monsters throw themselves into combat armed with equal parts ferocity and cruelty.
Outside of The Blood War, helldrakes are used as guardians and hellish negotiators. Like their fellow devils, they enjoy the soul-trade. Helldrakes find a great deal of enjoyment in the corruption of mortals.

Okay, this is the last one before I go to bed. But these have been fun. Now the humans have something to fight.
One thing that I find really interesting is how expensive high level units are. A group of ogres costs like 18,000 unit points, yet a squad of goblins costs 700. Granted, goblins only have 70 hit points and are likely to get killed with one or two hits. Still, I'm pretty sure 25 units of goblins would easily topple an ogre unit.
I suppose I'll have to introduce modifiers...
