In this video, we explore the rich history of the Sassanid Horse Archers. The horse archers of the East were known far and wide as masters of their craft whose coming struck fear into the hearts of their foes. Yet, while Western sources convey what it was like to be on the receiving end of such attacks, they say little about the faceless hordes which assailed them from a distance.
Check out the new end credits. ;)

Our latest video examines and compares the Roman & Russian military. Although not directly comparable, there are many parallels to be drawn with regards to general trends. Each section of the video is dedicated to exploring these relative comparisons which can help with the Ukraine War Explained.
The discussion is preempted by a necessary focus on the human cost of war, which should be kept in mind in all studies of military history.
Watch it now!

Here it is, the debut of Deadly Moments: Aftermath of Carrhae video. Enjoy!
The Battle of Carrhae was one of Rome’s greatest military disasters. Justifiably, most retellings of this important event focus their energy explaining the various factors which led to defeat and discuss the consequences of its fallout. In this video, we walk a mile in the sandals of the doomed Roman army in the Aftermath of Carrhae.2022-05-07 18:29:02 +0000 UTC View Post

I'm pretty stoked about the upcoming premiere of Deadly Moments: The Aftermath of Carrhae and wanted to share some art and a bit of the script (for some context). Enjoy :-)
Swarms of Parthians began appearing on the horizon. Plutarch claims that the spectacle of their return was made all the more horrifying by a rider who bore the severed head of Publius in full view of the Roman army.
This must have dealt an incredible blow to the morale of the legions ... 2022-05-05 20:58:43 +0000 UTC View Post

The Battle
A quick recap for how we got here. In 53 BC, General Marcus Licinius Crassus led an invasion into Parthia by way of Syria. Crossing the Euphrates, he brought with him some 28,000 legionaries, 4,000 light infantry, and 4,000 cavalry. Near the town of Carrhae he was met ... 2022-05-02 19:30:51 +0000 UTC View Post

By the will of the gods, the assassins’ hands had been stayed on the Ides of March. Caesar had lived and could manifest the next phase of his great conquests. In 44 BC, he struck out at Dacia, waging a bloody war which carved out the new province of Moesia up to the Danube. Now, having celebrated a triumph and settled affairs at Rome, Caesar prepares for his long awaited invasion of Parthia. This would be a prize more glor... 2022-04-13 18:01:25 +0000 UTC View Post

"Thus, placed amid the Russians, they [the Byzantine ships] cast their fire all around. As soon as the Russians observed this, they threw themselves quickly from their ships into the sea and chose to be submerged by the waves, rather than to be burned by fire. Others, however, burdened by their breastplates and helmets, sought the bottom of the sea, never to be seen again, while several, swimming between the burning waves of the... 2022-04-04 16:33:31 +0000 UTC View Post
