WIP for the next Megafauna pic. I've had the idea to draw some huge ostrich feet for several years now, and this project is the perfect opportunity to do it. So here you go~

Orca Swimming - Video Attached

Finally got this guy all rigged and able to animate! I thought it'd be fun to do a little swimming animation to get back into the practice of it. I'm pretty happy with how he turned out, although to be honest the rigging still isn't really done. (Is it ever?) I should create blend shapes for various applications, re-weight-paint some parts of the body, etc. etc. But I might move on to something else for now since I've been working on him for so long.

Now I have to decide what to do next...

Elephants and Serval

This pic ended up evolving significantly. After trying a few different things, I thought it'd be interesting to try making the pic feel more crowded by only showing parts of the elephants, having them pressing in from all sides. So you get more of an impression of them rather than seeing all of them. I don't push my images this way so it was fun to try.

Randall

Randall is a character I've drawn a few times before. (Previously he want by the name Kangae.) He's a bluejay hippogryph and (like many birds it seems!) also has a tendency to grow quite multi. He's double hung by default as well.

Orca Physics WIP

Personal Update - Leg is Much Better!

This morning I got the staples removed from my leg which mostly brings this whole surgery thing to a close. The difference is unbelievable! My leg was already feeling better after having the plate removed; the chronic pain was gone. Now that it's almost back to normal the improvement is a lot more apparent. I was crying on the way home because how much it felt like it was this huge weight lifted. ;v;

I kind of wish I hadn't waited so long, but with chronic pain like that you tend to dow...

Personal Update + Plans This Week

My recovery is going really well so far. It's been a lot better than I'd hoped for which is great! But of course it's still a long process.

First I'll mention something kind of gross I found out at my post-op checkup last week. Because this was the third time I had surgery on the same spot, I've got a lot of scar tissue there. In order to ensure that the area heals up despite the scarring, the surgeon used staples rather than sutures/stitches to sew my leg up. It's like straight up Fran...

Successful Surgery

Hi everyone! 

I wanted to let everyone know that my surgery went very well. I’m now home recuperating. I’m able to get around well enough with a cane and I’m on some strong pain medication that almost entirely eliminates the pain unless I put my weight on the leg. That should improve over the next week. I’ve already seen a huge improvement today from yesterday, so that’s really encouraging.

Surgery Tomorrow

This is just a reminder that I'm going in for surgery on my leg tomorrow, and I'll be taking the first week of March off to recuperate.

Megafauna - Hippo and Mice

I'm finally picking up the Megafauna series again, after spending some time on 3D and working ahead on the comic. I knew I wanted to do a massive hippo ass. And I'd thought about doing mice and elephants together, but that seemed a little cliched (and I've done it several times before already). But combining the hippo and the mice seemed to work out pretty well! 

This one has quite a number of alts, including the hippo by itself, and the hippo plus mice in various positions.

Perspective Shift - Page 18

Yep, that's Chester from Horse Strength in the last panel. I gave him a cameo in this scene. I needed a large jock character for this scene, and he fits that really well. It also saves me the hassle of designing a new character from scratch. And he's a fan favorite!

Completed Orca Model

Here's the completed orca model! I finished the detailed sculpting on Friday and baked the normal map last night. These are a few test renders I did. I'm pretty happy with how he turned out! 

Next I plan to rig him and do some a short animation or two before moving on to the next character.

Now he needs a name I guess...

Orca Cock Test Render

Can I offer you a fat orca cock in these trying times? 

The texturing is coming along. Sculpting the normal map details is taking a bit longer than I thought it would, but I'm doing a lot more detail over the entire figure compared to Pulsar's model which was just has normal map detail on the cock and legs/feet. I think the end result will really be worth it.

I'm hoping to have a turn-around to show off soon. If I can get the texturing done tomorrow I can have that done next ...
