Hi!

I gained a little steam this week writing and I’m still hopeful that I can finish the book before my narrator deadline. Thanks to your support I took some extra time off from my day job next week so I can focus on writing. It’s make or break time.

I opened up chapters 34, 35, and 36 for Root.

I opened up chapters 37, 38, and 39 for Harvester.

I added chapter 40, 41, and 42 for Step Master, Blapy’s Favorite, Divine, and Axiom.

Enjoy!

Chapter 42

Shocked silence followed Uruziel’s statement.

Uruziel frowned. “Well maybe not alive, alive. But we’re definitely experiencing the outside world directly now. Your turn, Sivart.”

Uruziel returned to her Risen Queen Minion and Sivart appeared wearing clothes not much different than Overlord. He pulled a sword from the sheath at his waist and swung it as his Minion. The weapon passed through the Minion without damaging it...

Chapter 41

With the destruction of the artifact Clouds Embracing the Sun, the oath no longer held. Ruin had expected this grove to disappear, but here it remained. Why? He had a guess, and if he wanted to expand his mind safely, he needed to be sure.

Ruin spoke loud enough for his voice to carry to all twenty-nine golden statues.

“Nymthus is safe. All your people are. I transferred your Capital and all the survivors of the war you waged with the Infernal Realm to Grave.”...

Chapter 40

Ruin entered Last Breath and scanned the battlefield. He found his worst fears had manifested.

Minions, including the Risen Queen and Fallen Lord versions, existed in multiple locations, and Ruin didn’t know which one Overlord and Uruziel inhabited. Sivart’s Minions all looked similar and Ruin didn’t know which one contained the Narrator.

Many of these Minions were being destroyed. If Ruin chos...

Hi!

I’m much better today and my niece has arrived to help with the kids while she is on school break. So there are two things to celebrate today.

With help here, I now need to push hard and finish book 11. Three chapters a week is not going to work.

I opened up chapters 31, 32, and 33 for Root.

I opened up chapters 34, 35, and 36 for Harvester.

I added chapter 37, 38, and 39 for Step Master, Blapy’s Favorite, Divine, and Axiom.

Chapter 39

The shadowy tendons holding the darkness together weakened under Ruin’s onslaught, and the area around him turned from patches of complete darkness into areas of twilight. Uruziel adjusted her feed, returning primary sight to him while supplementing his vision with the obscured battlefield below so he could keep his bearings.

Ruin couldn’t see Erebus but sensed an odd density of power twenty-five feet away.

Suspicious of a trap, Ruin didn’t approach the area...

Chapter 38

If the dungeon had pulled out all the stops, Ruin decided to do the same.

He increased his Core Velocity to three thousand, and his torso burned on the inside from the surge in energy.

You have around ten seconds to bleed that off before something bad happens, Uruziel said.

Thanks.

Ruin channeled energy from his core, teleporting to the distant mound and its tunnel entrance. The dungeon tried to resist the movement, but he overpowered...

Chapter 37

The Destruction Realm valued decisiveness, strength, and destruction, which all suited Ruin’s Saraph body. He felt a primal response to the environment and, if he wanted to understand the essence of Destruction, he needed to explore those sensations.

Ruin dismissed the dungeon’s warning and tried not to judge an entire Realm of Harvesters. Knowing the core in his center originated from the blood and viscera of millions of creatures and people made him sick. He would...

Chapter 36

Ruin now had an abundance of energy around his core, and he didn’t hesitate to use it.

Three thousand arm-sized icicles appeared a thousand feet above and they fell as one.

The leader of the Screechlings, still hiding behind the mass of followers, warned the beasts and they tried to scatter.

Ruin created a plate armored Minion he called Fallen Lord. This modified Fallen Hero spell had the same black armor as the normal ...

Ruin prepared to trigger his other options if he’d underestimated his ability to weather this attack with his armor and body.

The ultrahigh frequencies struck Ruin like auditory sledgehammers. He didn’t use his Wing Resonance to cancel out the attack because he wanted to gauge the strength of his natural state.

The waves of force tried to burrow through Ruin’s wing-cocoon but found no openings to exploit. He hovered in the air like a ship surrounded by a chu...

Happy Thanksgiving!

Today is Thanksgiving in the States and I wanted to send a quick note about how thankful I am that you are part of this Patreon.

You are the wind that drives this ship we call the Divine Apostasy. Without you, I'd be adrift in the Sea of Procrastination. So truly, I appreciate and recognize the pivotal role you play in my writing process.

I'm thankful every day that I have the opportunity to tell stories, and that special people like you take time out of your busy lives to read th...

I opened up chapters 28 and 29 for Root.

I opened up chapter 30 for Harvester.

I added chapter 31, 32, and 33 for Step Master, Blapy’s Favorite, Divine, and Axiom.

Chapter 33

Ruin had gained the skill he needed to use the Frost Bow with confidence, so he stepped cautiously into the forest of stalagmites, and strained his Awareness to detect any danger. Now that he stood among the twisted pillars, he noticed the low hum they emitted along with their dim light.

Clicking bounced among the pillars, loud and threatening. Ruin paused, his eyes narrowing as movement flickered within the mass of shadows in front of him. Instead of advancing toward t...

Ruin acknowledged each notification. He’d certainly confused the System that ran this dungeon. He wondered if only one Notification would normally activate. If so, hopefully it would pick one of the first ones that welcomed him and not the last one that had maximized the difficulty. Worst case, all the Notifications would activate maximizing the obstacles and difficulty.

The last worry was easy to test, and Ruin cast Minor Prelude of Stillness. He felt the du...

Chapter 31

This time when Ruin entered the portal to the fifth floor, the Dark Tower left him alone. He exited onto a platform twenty feet across and followed Zylkin who strode quickly away.

The chamber they’d entered had a diameter of a hundred feet and a handful of doors sat in the smooth stone wall. The ceiling, fifty feet above, had the same smooth stone and contributed to the room’s dull appearance. A passageway led out of the chamber toward the center of the Tower.

[Author's Note: This is very rough. I haven't even re-read it.]

Chapter 30

Ruin raised a hand to stop Deryssa’s questions. He felt overwhelmed himself and wanted time to think before discussing it.

“Let’s discuss this later,” Ruin told Deryssa. “Do you want to stay here or go back to the vault?”

Deryssa glanced at Overlord, Uruziel, and Sivart. “I wish to stay here. I’ve been isolated for so long, and I don’t want to be alone if I can avoid it....

“It’s my Archangel body,” Ruin said. “Suppression isn’t the right word. It’s more like my body is in the way. Like I’m at the bottom of an ocean trying to communicate with someone in the sky. It takes far more energy because of all the water around me.”

Sivart spoke up. “It’s interference. That’s why you’re only noticing it now. Every time you advance a Fortification level the energy in your cells becomes more dense, increasing the interference....

Chapter 28

No one spoke while Ruin read the prophecy two additional times.

Ruin didn’t consider himself special. Yes, a god most Cultivators revered wrote a poem about him, but he’d always attributed his situation to the sacrifices Uru had made using her own pathways. She’d placed him on his current trajectory.

Ruin’s Intelligence certainly set him apart, and his work ethic and Cleverness had supported his achievements. In his heart though, he believed others could...

Hi!

I have two chapters written but they need another pass before I release them. I can’t do that because I traveled for work all week and I’m now very sick.

Hopefully I’m fine tomorrow and can release them.

Sorry for missing the weekly deadline. I take it very seriously and rarely miss it. Thanks for your understanding.

I did talk with Travis and the tentative narration date for book 11 is Jan 20th.

Hi!

This week was a disaster. I spent half of it traveling for work and the other half trying to recover from that. Unfortunately, next week I need to do it again.

I added about a page of context and detail to the fight Ruin had. I’ll leave the original up and post the new one if anyone is interested. I noticed a lot of questions around what Ruin’s display of power means. There is an explanation for it, and I thought I would get to it in tonight’s chapter, but I didn’t. It...

“Of course.”

Ruin activated Last Breath and appeared on the platform in his mind. Overlord, Uruziel, and Sivart appeared a moment later.

“Thanks, Overlord,” Ruin said. “I got a little wrapped around the anchor as Lylan would say.”

“A little? You turned psycho.”

“I know. These upcoming dungeons will give me plenty of opportunities to learn some control while in this body.”

[Author's Note: added some more detail around the fight to highlight the difference between Ruin's mental and physical strength when compared with the shadow figure.]

Are you nuts? Ruin asked.

Yes, he is, Uruziel said, stepping into view as well.

Sivart spoke calmly. Our opportunities to gather intelligence on the Outerverse are rare and none are firsthand. This is a chance to see what is powering these ...

Hi!

Tonight’s chapters were a lot of fun to write as Ruin got to flex a little. I hope the action translated well to the writing as this one really consumed my thoughts a lot. Why can’t I just plop my imagination onto the page?

I now have two months to finish and revise book 11 which means I need to produce almost a chapter per DAY. I’m quickly getting myself into the same situation I found myself in for book 10.

I still intend to squeeze in some Divine Awakening chapt...
