Fan Art Freebie—Mara

Here's a new Fan Art Freebie. This is Mara, a character from "The New Adventures of He-Man," a failed attempt to revitalize the venerable 1980's franchise in the 1990s by going full Sci-Fi with He-Man and Skeletor and an otherwise entirely new cast if I'm not mistaken. Mara here was one of the prominent female characters introduced. I never watched the show myself, so that's all I know. Requested by Vincent Aaron Stauffer.

Welcome to November

So we’ve gotten through another month. As I mentioned in an earlier post, the month of October—usually my favorite— was a disappointing one personally and productively. I am finding it very hard to get excited about anything right now. We didn’t really do anything for Halloween this year—no FilmFest, no decorating— and the drawing isn’t really doing anything for me either. Betty 82 Halloween Sequence Updated

I know this month has probably been a bit of a letdown. It certainly has been to me. More on the future soon, but I had to get at least one new color TF image in this month, so I finished another stage of last year’s Betty TF.

I won’t lie, I’ve been really struggling with the art lately, and I apologize for the inactivity here. I just started playing around with the Sketchbook App, which I used to use a lot more. Most of Julie Takes Wing was drawn in it in fact. This image of the Scarlet Witch was drawn in Sketchbook, then the line art was imported into Clip Studio where the colors were added.

When nominees came in for this year’s Halloween sequence, I started brainstorming costume ideas for each of them, and was able to put together a costume pinup for each candidate!

Counting backwards for the lowest amount of votes to the highest, here’s Leah. I originally went with a fairly generic sexy nurse for the Lunateers’ party gal, but had this idea at the last minute.

Ladies of the 80s: Allura (Voltron, Defender of the Universe—Lion Force)

This is one of the big ones, I think! I usually consider the big guns of the 80s to be He-Man, G.I. Joe, Transformers, Thundercats, and maybe MASK, but let me tell you Voltron (specifically the Lion Force version) is right at the top of that 2nd tier. Like the similar but less known April Eagle I did recently, I went back and forth briefly between doing Allura in her everyday pink jumpsuit and this version, and ultimately went with the more action oriented option. What's different about this one is this shows Molly as she looks when fully transformed into a werewolf. It was a real joy to work with Brad to design this new look for his character. Welcome to September… Sandy Starling

Finally Autumn is here! Not a fan of summer, I can tell you that. My busy season at work is winding down as well, so that’s a bonus! Gotta finish up Shall We dance and get started on the Halloween TF! The final part of the Green Genes sequence is coming, and I’m hoping to get the sketchbook going again too. There’s a few more commissions to share and two I’m working on. Thanks as always for the continued support!

Ladies of the 80’s: Carly (Transformers)

One of the Eighties biggest and most enduring properties finally gets representation! I briefly wavered on whether to do Carly from 1985 or 2005, but I quickly settled on this one as I think it’s more iconic and certainly more representative of the 1980’s! Besides, there’s always Marissa Faireborne waiting in the wings to bring some 2005 fashion into play.
