Ruins of the Claw of Sunsets – Map 3

The Claw of Sunsets was a serpentfolk palace complex that is now mostly collapsed and overgrown – including a number of immense thorny vines / roots up to ten feet wide at their biggest that seem intent on tearing down what remains.

This is the last of three 9.5″ x 12.75″ maps (at 4 squares per inch) in the set exploring the surface ruins, and each map is then paired with a smaller 9.5″ x 7.25″ map of a dungeon area beneath that section of the ruins (the dungeons beneath this ...

Backstage Pass - May 2023

Hey Patrons!

Thanks again for your support!

And, thanks to that support, here are the ten maps we'll be releasing this month, including the massive map of a second set of "The Deep Halls of Amon-Gorloth". This zip file is larger than usual because of those maps since I've included several resolutions and the high-resolution versions are around 10 megs each.

We've got dungeons,...

Release the Kraken on the Proving Grounds of the Mad Ogre Lord

Every month we go through our back catalogue of maps and you vote on which two should be re-released under the free commercial use license. Our second release this month is a small dungeon that was procedurally generated while playing Four Against Darkness (a solo dungeon-crawling game).

As indicated above, this was created procedurally while playing "Four Against Darkness", a very cool solo dungeon-crawler that plays out a game in about 45 mi...

Release the Kraken on The Yellow Fane in Ruins

Every month we go through our back catalogue of maps and you vote on which two should be re-released under the free commercial use license. Our first release this month is this dungeon I made for an Empire of the Petal Throne game.

The underworld of Béy Su contains many old temples and other structures that are no longer connected to the world above. The Yellow Fane once sat beneath the shrine of Qón in Béy Su – a garden temple reminiscen...

DungeonMorphs - Lairs Set 2

And, for our last new release of March, here’s one more of the DungeonMorph series of dungeon geomorphs – the second die from the Lairs set (the last of the three sets).

These are redraws of the Dungeonmorph designs originally drawn by myself, Glynn Seal, Billiam Babble, Alyssa, and Joe Wetzel. I’m doing these redraws one “die” at a time. The geomorphs have been assigned faces on the DungeonMorph Dice, and I’m translating them not by artist, but by die. So this is the second...

Golem Oasis

Sure, the locals call the place “Rubenden’s Oasis”, but the most notable element about this desert sanctuary (beyond the availability of water) are the defences the town uses… a small fleet of hovering iron “golems” that patrol the dunes to a range of about three miles around the oasis proper. Each “golem” is a hovering unit consisting of an ovoid body about 6-7 feet across with a set of 6 to 8 metal “tentacles” that hang beneath it that are adept at digging through sand, ...

Caves of Azure Blue

Also known as the Dais of Chikúna – once within the caves, the walls have been splashed with cornstarch mixed with a blue pigment that makes the caves seem brilliant blue when lit, and a dark midnight blue even in the dark. This is a sacred place of the Lady Chikúna in her role worshipped by the Girdle of Purity Society. Her role is quite different than the traditional view of this aspect of Avánthe – almost a mix of the traditional Chikúna as “the Ripener” (who is charged with th...

Under the Lighthouse

On a promontory overlooking the Dry Bay is a tower that was once a lighthouse. Under the lighthouse are some old sea caves that are not open to the air. The caves are not linked to the structures above, but are used by the same faction that currently uses the lighthouse as a lookout. The caves provide a lot more living space and catch a decent breeze to keep the air fresh within (at least in the upper set of caves).

The upper level contains some living space as well as a cave hidden awa...

The Dry Lighthouse

On a promontory overlooking the Dry Bay is a tower that was once a lighthouse. It has been used by various factions as a minor fortress ever since the day of the end of waters, and the actual beacon at the top was long ago removed and battlements added in its place.

Other ruins around the tower include a small stone blockhouse, old ruined walls restricting access along the ridgeline, piers that jut out over the drop, and a pair of caves on lower tiers that lead beneath the structure (bu...

Beneath the Claw of Sunsets – Map 2

Beneath the ruins of the Claw of Sunsets are a number of small dungeons and understructures. This particular dungeon is under the second portion of the ruins maps above - just off to the left of the central platform & temple. This was evidently an underground place of worship associated with the temple on the platform that sits over it. The upper level has been infiltrated by the strange vines/roots that are tearing down the ruins above.

There are three levels to this complex with a...

Every month we go through our back catalogue of maps and you vote on which two should be re-released under the free commercial use license. Our first release this month is this dungeon from five years ago.

The Dungeons of Indomitable Circumstance

Set the wayback machine to 1981 (which doesn’t feel that “way back” to be honest… crap I’m old) and we find Judges Guild’s “The Tower of Indomitable Circumstance” – an adventure notable for the author as Corey Cole would go on with Lori Ann Cole to design the “Hero’s Quest / Quest For Glory” series of classic point-and-click fantasy adventure games for Sierra.

A new release of this adventure from Zzarchov Kowolski is currently in layout, and I had th...

Opal’s Steps – Stepped Pyramid

The high priestess Adepphius Opal Dhall had this pyramid constructed primarily as a “folly”, a reminder that she had the clout to have these kinds of ridiculous structures built for no other reason than her say-so. The structure did eventually find use as tombs and memorial space, but even that was mostly to take advantage of the presence of the already-built stepped pyramid.

Entry to the structure is either from the second-highest tier of the structure where massive double doors op...
