Here is the sketch version for The Astronaut - the latest big man to be added to my Art Book project. So I normally make one of these updates at the start of every new year - apologies for the lateness of this one; things have been rather busy here at Lokitu HQ. But I wanted to give an overview of what’s on the slate for the rest of this year:
First up, Max & Roy, Vol.2 has three more parts to go before reaching its conclusion. How big is Roy going to have to blow up? Stay tuned to find out.

Last time, I added color to SPOILED in the scene where Ben encounters the butler Steadings, but since the story has two concurrent storylines, I wanted to also depict the other in color too - our good friends Arthur Sweet and Manni Dey.
In this scene they are having to share a hotel room since their homes are being watched, and some awkward, tension-filled undressing is taking place...

I was pretty happy with how this big fella for the Art Book turned out. He looks pretty large and in charge haha. As I said in an earlier post, I've got about ten more of these guys to draw now and then all of the book illustrations will be complete.

Happy Love Day, everyone! Okay so this'll be the last sneak peek at this story before I actually finish the illustrations and post it, and I thought Valentines Day was a pretty good time to show these two in action, gettin' all feedy.
The final version of the story will have 7 full-color illustrations. Ideally, I'd like to get it out after Max & Roy Vol.2 finishes but we'll see how that lines up.

I very nearly went with the sketched alternative for picture 2 - where Max is presenting a cake to a seated Roy, but when I came back to it I felt it needed to be more intimate. I wanted them actually IN the process of feeding, not just the build-up, so then I thought it would be a fun callback to the first story - after Max and Roy first move into their new home and Roy feeds Max Chinese food (I've attached that image above too) - to draw it with the roles swapped around this time.

Those of you who caught the stream in which we started work on this big fella may have heard - I'm starting to get a teensy bit burned out on the Art Book project now. It took quite a few attempts before I settled on the right angle to show Max kissing Roy goodbye, largely because Max is so enormous and takes up so much space now that showing him doing any kind of normal activity requires a fair bit of planning!

Here's a recent commission I made for yogurtandwhiskey - his character of Vernell Ray, a blue collar jackalope who likes fixing up his truck and eating big! It was fun for me to work on a non-human character like this, and I learned a lot in the process.

Here's a very early look at a story that will be coming much later in the year. On the right we have Stanley who has just met Jacob (also known as Huff) at their college gym. The story will be a one-and-done kinda thing, rather than told over multiple chapters. I just wanted to get something different out of my system, and it was the same for the art style here - the looser, more sketchy style is just something I like to do sometimes as a break from my usual thick, precise lines.
