Devil's Consultancy 60

[Billy Batson, aka Captain Marvel]

Billy’s life had gotten really weird ever since his girlfriend… sort of… punched out the ghost that gave him superpowers. On second thought, it was definitely the being given superpowers by a ghost part that started the weirdness that was his life now.

But it was extra weird now. For one, he had a girlfriend who could punch out ghosts. And started turning into a demon when she got mad. Mom said that was normal, but Billy was pretty su...

Short one this week, but I didn't want to break up the next scene and while normally I'd figure out a short one to jam between them, I'd rather release it mostly on time instead.

Naturally, when a billionaire gets married, there really isn’t anywhere in the world barred from holding the wedding. Bruce heavily advocated for it to be held in Gotham’s Robinson Park like his parents, and that was the initial plan, but the invasion restarted t...

Swordsman's adventure 29

With the Revolutionaries routed, albeit more banged up than Tanya wanted them to be in the process, the battle between her and “Uncle Guns”, as he referred to himself those years ago, had started to stretch on.

Strictly speaking, Tanya didn’t need to actually win this fight. If she did, Raml threatened to kill his hostages, which was an issue that she wasn’t entirely clear how to resolve. She could simply lose, of course, which was an unappealing option, but it also didn...

While assuredly the consequences of the world being, at least in part, saved by literal Santa Claus would be both far-reaching and personal, Rhine had other things to do. Like going to bed. “While Christmas gets saved, goodbye must be waved.” They said to Batman, warping back to the small portion of their soul that they left with the Court of Owls. A shade, a tiny fraction that aped their demon form, was left behind, which made itself at home in Batman’s cape. If he needs anything, he...

Really annoying bit: I can't change the 'multiple option' setting with edits, if I forget to turn it on I have to delete and re-post.

Not my best work, but it's on time, damnit.

As had helped with every spirit so far, Tanya immediately bowed deeply. “I am Tanya, honored spirit.” She said in Japanese, as the spirit had spoken to her with that language. “Retainer to Princess L’Arachel, who granted me permission to move about the forest and gather small amounts of herbs for my research.” She gestured to the unicorn who was placidly staring at the spirit. ”This is my friend, Opali...

Despite being taken advantage of to induct her in the absence of Bruce, the chaos outside was not something that the Court of Owls could ignore. The Talons were recalled, put into retreat, as The Voice of the Court took credit for their appearance by virtue of telling everyone that the League was arriving before the first actual reports of that activity came in.

Several of the members slipped away over the next few hours, each quietly informing someone else that they had matters t...

After a fun day of roller coasters and scams disguised as games, plus some carousing in the upper floors of Mamma Gkika’s, Tanya had finished her actual business in the city. But she also budgeted at least four days for this, so she had two left. Even if she was willing to add a day for additional flexibility, that still left her with an entire day of seeing the sights before she had to leave.

As usual, the cheese, bread, and snails in Mamma’s lower levels were hearty and deli...

The trip on the helicopter was rather illuminating as to the state of the city. Tanya counted seven fires, Poison Ivy was doing something at the park, Mr. Freeze had taken S.T.A.R. labs over again, and- oop, there’s Firefly. Eight fires.

Of course, for a lot of the League, it doesn’t take very long for- Mr. Freeze’s homegrown glacier shattered, a bright red cloth visible even at this distance. Glowing green fire extinguishers sprayed green mist that suppressed the fires even...

Fortunately, Blackfire was just a spiteful teenager who was mostly lashing out at the galaxy, and her sister in specific, because her life was hard and she blamed her parents and society’s abuse of her on the sibling that was treated well, because that’s just what people do when exposed to unfa...

Bruce was concerned when informed of the incident, of course, but attempted kidnappings occurred with a reasonable amount of regularity, a few times a month. Most were easily foiled even without tipping her hand vis a vis her secret identities, but of those that did, she didn’t feel too bad about confounding their minds to conceal the extent of her actions, usually by pinning the blame on one of the various vigilantes, or sometimes even one of the villains.

Sometimes, the soluti...

As promised, L’Arachel was able to get an expedition organized to check on the Demon King’s seal. From Emperor Mansel’s questioning of his niece, Tanya gathered that he was mostly just relieved that L’Arachel was taking more than two bodyguards on her latest monster killing sojourn. Not that he wasn’t very concerned, but once it was made clear that there was no need for e...

After the Question’s dramatic retelling of his, Huntress, and Hawkgirl’s adventure smashing the alien technology fabricator, tuned to assemble raw materials into copies of the Crime Bible, he presented one of the full examples. “It’s mostly drivel.” The Question explained, “But within its glorification of violence, it reveals volumes of subtlety, including proof of a few sinister plots that have been difficult to secure evidence for.” One of the unfortunate things about working ...

The Slaughter Swamp was a very unpleasant place, but needs must. “Bowery, Fuerza, Valiente!” Jason shouted, before humming a single note strongly. He wasn’t in Robin gear, instead wearing the enchanted robe that Tanya had made for him, using magic for every step, even spinning the thread: it was mostly black, with green trim and a red hood that enshrouded his face in magical shadow, two green lights marking his eyes, evoking Robin’s colors and concealing his identity. They had yet to ...

Winslow High school was just as dreary as ever. Emma and Sophia were consistently present, of course, talking to each other about Taylor in that deniable way they did, but no confrontations were forced. Apparently, Emma wasn’t quite so stupid as to think that her punishment ending meant that whatever thin ice she was on no longer applied. Their sycophants, Madison most of all, still routinely harassed Taylor, but nothing blatant enough to warrant action more severe than Taylor reporting to ...

Gotham’s crime rate has spiked again. Normally not really notable, but this spike was unusual: it wasn’t provoked by any of the known rabble rousers, and all of Batman’s criminal contacts seem to either know nothing… or have gone to ground, unreachable. There was just… a surge in the confidence and competence of the common criminal. It was weird.

“Perhaps it’s time for Matches Malone to return…” Bruce mused as he looked at the data on the Batcom...

She didn’t need to overcomplicate matters. Clark Kent’s fostering of the unfortunate Billy Batson was a matter of public record… subject to confidentiality laws. Wayne Enterprises has had some kind of presence in Metropolis for years, if only to spit in Lex Luthor’s eye, so the purchase and renovation of an abortion clinic that was closed due to insufficient staff into one of ArcWayne’s ritual clinics (where medical rituals, including blood sample purification, was performed en mass...

It didn’t take long to inform Billy that they had an appointment to get to, finish up their meals, and leave, dropping a hundred dollar tip because even the waitstaff at actually nice restaurants don’t complain about that unless it’s a large party, and Tanya saw no reason to pay waitstaff at more modest establishments any less.

But enough complaining about one of America’s most irritating cultural idiosyncrasies, they had a kryptonian to meet with. While they could View Post

Apparently, the ubiquitousness of monsters was a relatively recent, as in the last one or two hundred years or so, thing. Weak monsters manifesting near the seal was one thing, getting a dense enough population that packs of Mauthe Dogs ranged out this far from the Darkling Woods (which is where he was sealed, apparently) was another ...

“Bounty hunting, huh?” Nodzon rumbled, the hesitancy in his movements vanished at the prospect of a fight instead of a one-sided slaughter. There’s the battle maniac that almost turned the world upside down! “You sure you want to face this, girl?”

The immediate reaction of Billy and Freddy was… interesting. They immediately looked at each other, silently conferring on how to handle things. Making a decision immediately, Freddy looked at Tanya and stood up, grabbing her arm and dragging her towards the back, and incredibly awkward but not impossible thing to do when you had a bum leg and a crutch. “Come on, let’s run!” He said.

Seeing a good opportunity, Tanya waved her hand. “Rhine. Berechnung. Mahou.” with a cr...

Local girls dressed up as Jagermonsters, with fake teeth, claws, and horns to sell the illusion, with the occasional bit of heavy makeup.

It also had parking for mecha, which was considerate of them. “Ho! Itz been a vile sinze ve see sometink like dot.” Said one of the jagergirls, one who was smoking in the ...

In the four meetings she had with SivMana employees, she learned quite a bit about their operations. First, the primary translator was not demons, like she had assumed, but instead a man by the name of Oggar, who Mr. Karnes insisted was not connection to demons. One of the others said that Oggar claimed to be an immortal that was from Egypt, but he was apparently too pale for that to be a plausible story.

With her attempts to reach out to Captain Marvel directly thwarted, Tanya put out some feelers on how she would go about reaching the Rock of Eternity, and then waited until the next opening in her schedule.

In the end, the decision was simple: while L’Arachel dragged her into the violence business and Genivere was just a young girl jealous of her husband’s affections, anything she disliked about her current circumstances would be much worse with Knossus, with a reward of bringing herself to the attention of Being X’s peers, whose strongest charm point appeared to be honesty in their pitiless disregard of you.

Tanya never understood that logic: Given the choice between someone w...
