Here are more examples of me 1) working fits and starts and 2) figuring out the Captain Britain homage panel (see my post from March 27, 2020). 12IR - Star Wars Cosplay

During my quarantine, I've treated myself to a Star Wars marathon - re-watching all 11 movies and the first season of The Mandalorian in chronological order. It was quite a rollercoaster ride and during my bored times I doodled out this 12-Inch Roommate/Star Wars cosplay image on my iPad.

There are so many characters to choose from, I settled on Leo as a Han/Chewie combo (if I did this over, I'd give him furry chaps instead of just boots) and Kevin is a mix of ESB training-with-Yoda Lu...

I recently restructured my reference files - it took a couple of months and felt a lot like procrastination and my new system is just as unwieldy BUT it all helped me produce the image above.

This is my current batch of character designs for some of the Jockstrap Academy cast. I put my original doodles for them aside and dug deep into my reference photos for 1) Hunky Guys 2) Muscle-y Bodies 3) Jock Clothing and 4) Dick prints.

While planning my new 12-Inch Roommate comics I decided to include an homage to one of my favorite comic book panels, by one of my favorite comic book artists - one from an early Captain Britain by Alan Davis.

As a kid, I loved how Cap filled the door frame, his head just an inch or two above the moulding - so I added it to my inspo board for an early image of Matt.

Switching Over...

I am having a deep moment of hardcore creative introspection as I try to throw myself into drawing digitally. My production computer died this Summer, the one that was connected to my scanner - and I thought this would be a perfect opportunity to work on drawing directly into the computer - y'know, like the kids do these days.

Sketchbook - (Mr. Cornhole) 12-Inch Roommate

The New 12-Inch Roommate will feature a lot of the old supporting cast, except for one: the landlord, Mr. Fropley. Fropley was loosely based on the two landlords in the classic sitcom Three's Company, Mr. Furley and Mr. Roper. I never liked his design and I didn't enjoy drawing him, which is why after 100 strips or so, i put him in a coma. And eventually established The Wagners as the new landlords.

Jockstrap Academy - Ruff Line Up

Once upon a time, I had this idea called Jockland - a rambling, unfocused excuse to draw muscle boys in tight shorts and bare midriffs - over time it has evolved into Jockstrap Academy - an animated  series. Animated series are really hard to make so who knows if it will ever get to the finish line, but the development is always fun.

12-Inch Roommate - Page 01 - WIP

Sketchbook - 12-Inch Roommate - Warmups

Finally getting back into writing and drawing - and after some down time I've found its helpful to start by just drawing fun sorta purposeless stuff. These are some of my favorite poses from the original 12-inch run but re-done with the new character designs.

Recuperation Doodle

If you follow me on Instagram you’re probably aware I was in a minor accident and am currently recovering. Unfortunately, not the kind of recovery where I can sit up a draw all day - so my progress here has been slowed down substantially for a few weeks. However, it has given me some time to poke around on Procreate on my iPad as you can see from this doodle above - hopefully one good thing that will come from this is catching up on my digital drawing techniques.
