In the old 12-Inch Roommate, Leo was grumpy and would take a load to the face anytime he used the word "come". In the new 12-Inch Roommate I decided to try to make him similar to Cousin Larry on Perfect Strangers - in that his selfish behavior was always rooted in some silly social trauma - and that he thinks of himself as a top. Then I also decided to give him a big butt despite his lithe frame. So, once he's established as a grumpy, selfish - but relatable - bossy...

The spirit of giving - a 12" WIP

I had some work travel a couple of weeks ago and I'm ramping up for some more time off in a week and a half, so most of my time has been going to getting projects into place for when I'm gone.

So, getting back on the W&D side has been... challenging, but I have been working on my new 12" pages, but sometimes it feels like I'm just going through the motions. This is evident when I finish sketching out a page everything feels lackluster.

Over and Over - A 12-Inch WIP

Sometimes you’re getting ready for travel and tell yourself to work ahead for your Patreon but you end up just noodling the same panels over and over.

in these first three panels I really wanted to show Leo and Kevin pulling on Matt but also Matt’s reaction. So I just kept drawing one version and then realizing “Oh, his hand should be here!” and then going back and editing. Over and over.

I did this and just had another idea. But its the last one, I promise.

Character Design WIP - Proctor Sexton

As unpopular as it is among the creative, I've been making concept art with  generated imagery. In the case of Jockstrap Academy, creating new reference for character designs.

I've always wanted Roger Sexton, the put-upon but self-interested University Proctor to be this unassuming, slim hipped 30-ish yo man. And biracial - white and Asian.

12 Inch - Book Club - pg 3 WIP

I'm starting on page 3 of this comic because the lead up requires some more thought. "BOLD MOVE" some might say, but I sorta wanted to jump in where the conflict is already being established.

Mostly scribbles here, but I usually start with some lines and key poses and then start adjusting them around panels. So some of this will probably get changed but I really like the idea of Matt being pulled around by his dick.

Getting back to some general sketching and this is not part of a larger story. I was challenging myself to draw 5 panels in an hour and didn't quite make it. Then I just colored and bubbled this panel for kicks.

P:W&D - Progress WIP

In today's installment of 'that SFW comic...' I plotted out the bubble placement for the first 10 pages, so now I'm giving myself 5 weeks to draw them. I have a general rule that if I don't like something that I have drawn, I'll give myself the space to draw it 2-3 times before deciding its good enough for the time I had available. (It's better to be finished than "done".) I feel like that's going to happen a lot...

Present Me is looking back at Past Me and shaking his fist. Because the Me before knew that the best way to get over his aversion to drawing cities and buildings and perspective was to kick it on down to the Me yet-to-come. 

I intentionally designed the first three pages of Works and Days as a challenge for myself and boy am I regretting it. But as usual I'm just trying to do it in passes and take breaks in between so I can come back with fresh eyes.

It was hard to keep momentum going on my pages this week, but I did manage to sit down for some much needed prep work here and there. With W&D there's been a struggle between drawing the characters more simply or more complex, but I guess I should just pick on because over time the simple will get more complex and vice versa.

I think this will be my last "bonus strip" before taking a crack at a longer story again. These were really more for finetuning the character designs and I'll probably go back to make tweaks for consistency.

Big Bad Wolf Redux

Back in the day, I did some sketches for a Big Bad Wolf comic but never actually made one. I kept revisiting it but still never actually did anything with it. So, I think I'm just going to roll it into 12-Inch for a fantasy story? Honestly, it's not much different than 12-Inch anyway. We'll see...

P: Works & Days - Page 1 WIP

For today's SFWednesday... I got a little backtracked on this page last week from going back in and tweaking costumes. I've always been someone who loves to switch out looks on comic characters - which can really slow you down BUT I love it and this idea will be full of it so I'm trying to make decisions as needed and as they come.
