TRW Strips #060

This one is a direct follow up to Strip #023, included here. Derek and Abbey may never even speak to each other in the main comic, but I like the little antagonistic relationship between the two of them building in the strips. 

As I've said before, I try not to veer into story stuff in these strips...I did not succeed at that today. This is a big part of why Abbey is the way she is with Casey. After being friend-zoned by Courtney (or at least, that's what Abbey thinks happ...

In an early draft of the art here, Abbey looked a lot more scary/creepy in that bottom left panel. I adjusted it pretty quick to what it is now, and I feel it fits a lot better. Abbey isn't meant to rule the twins through fear or intimidation. Mary's not flustered in that panel because she's scared of Abbey. She's scared of making Abbey cry because they're friends, and I hope that comes across clearly enough in the visuals.

Here we have a spooky pin up just in time for...just in time for Halloween!....sigh. 

So this is Lydia Deetz, specifically the version from the Beetlejuice cartoon. Fun fact, I almost drew her for Halloween the last two years in a row, as I remember her having a cool hairstyle and makeup that would be fun to draw. 

When I looked up the visuals for reference, though, I was in for a surprise. I remembered the Lydia character in the cartoon being older, as in teens at least...

Isaac's Adventures Finale

Since we all know how fun disclaimers are, I may as well tell you that these two have no familial relation in this story. They are strictly master and servant in nature.

And so we come to the end! It feels strange to say, I rarely get to call a big project "finished," but here we are. I'd like to thank everyone who showed an interest in this goofy spinoff idea and kept it going over the last two years(!)

Don't worry, he's ok. Meanwhile I hope this page doesn't make Casey look too dumb or insensitive. As someone who's bad with details myself, she gets this from me. At the very least she's sharp enough to eventually pick up on what Abbey's fake smile looks like, check out page 156 if you want to see the last time it happened.

I had to think pretty hard as to whether or not the content of this page was exactly necessary, as I worried it would slow things down. By that I mean it would likely be more efficient for the pacing if Abbey just jumped right in with what she wants to show Casey right here, without delaying that a full week instead.

When I started this scene, I knew I wanted to work in the contrast of dark shade and bright sunlight. Though in retrospect I probably should have put them anywhere but under Casey's tree, because now I've got this big brown vertical pillar mucking up my compositions for a bit here. I suppose unexpected challenges keep things interesting. XD

Thought I forgot about this? Well I didn't, I swear! My lack of updates on the story is a casualty of my summer ambition to open commissions back up. (Those Rein Con pin ups being twice as much work as I thought they'd be didn't help either.)
