Comfort Food Games: Post-Mortem

If you haven't watched it yet, well, here's your notice that it's up!  Join me and friend of the channel MykonosFan as we highlight our favorite comfort-food games, the kind of games that are perfect for a rainy day or a pandemic or the weekend, y'know, the usual. Check it out and then pop back to read the behind-the-scenes!

POST-MORTEM:

This was a video that Chris and I had been discussing for a couple months now, originally specifically a "rainy ...

New Series, New Video, New Update! (Paper Mario TTYD Post-Mortem)

The wait is finally over, at long last I get to talk a bit more about the series that behind the scenes I'm calling "Chewing Scenery!"  First, the obvious: This video is late, so I'll be playing catch-up to my March plans with the next handful of videos.  It took longer because I tried a few new things, and the COVID-19 pandemic threw me off a bit both physically and mentally.  I'm fortunate that everybody in my household works in an "essential" field, so thankfully we're okay ...

The Golden Bolt's 4th Anniversary!

Today is a big day for me: The Golden Bolt turns four years old today!  In just a few days I'll be releasing the first piece of a brand new project I've been working on for months, one that feels like the culmination of everything I've made and learned in these past four years.  I'd like to run through some of the journey I've been on, and briefly touch on what this new series is before its official release in a few days.  I'm not entirely sure what or how much I'm going to div...

What's coming in 2020?

Hey folks!  If you didn't watch the update video that came out today, it's linked here for your convenience.  In the update video, I mentioned a new series I'm working on for 2020, and I'd like to share a little bit about it to get some feedback.  More info will come in the next month or two as I prepare the pilot episode, and you guys will get the first look at the pilot when that comes!

This series is going to, in a nutshell, focus on a very small slice of games (and ma...

Before Cuphead: Microsoft's First Nintendo Games

This is another video I've had in the pipeline for a while, and again I'm super excited to share it with you all! I'd like to turn this into a three- or four-part series throughout the next year or so, hopefully - there's so much to talk about!

Next week I'll be flipping the script and releasing a video that's got a much faster turnaround than the last few...well, actually two videos, one on The Golden Bolt, and making my first and probably final appearance o...

Ratchet & Clank's Forgotten Java Phone Game

This is a video I've been working on and off on for a while, and I'm excited to finally be able to share it!  For this video, I reached out to one of Ratchet & Clank: Going Mobile's developers to get a deeper scoop on what this game's development looked like, and to find out what happened to its cancelled-but-actually-did-come-out-but-lost-to-time sequel, Clone Home!

I know there was a bit of a drought on major videos, for some reason I'm really bad with that at the ...

End of 2018 Update!

Hey everybody! It's been a while since I've posted any updates here, or any posts, really...oops! Generally I know you all are active on the Discord server, so I end up deciding not to push an update to Patreon a lot of the time. (If you'd prefer a Patreon push too, let me know and I'll make sure I'm better about it!)

I just want to say thank you for your support throughout 2018. Through every review, every PLUSone, and every tweak, you've been here, and I'll never forget that! With ju...

September Update: I'm bad at updates!

I chat with pretty much all of you constantly over Discord, so I've forgotten again to update Patreon.  There's been a lot since the last post, as I know most of you have seen.  The Sly Marathon is done, I've reviewed Alien: Isolation and L.A. Noire (both with guests), and I've appeared in a bunch of videos from my buddies!  All of my major guest appearances have been added to a new playlist for your ease of access, so make sure you check that out.

September's going t...

Sly Cooper Marathon + Sly 1 Re-review!

Yesterday was a bit inundated with Switch birthday videos, how dare they not know that The Golden Bolt was born a year earlier!

Yeah, with all the Switch posting, I decided to bump back a day to let Sly render in top quality, rather than just force it out for the sake of a deadline.  This was one of the more fun videos to make, just like Spyro!  I'm really liking how the current "season" of TGB is coming out, it's sort of lining up with where I really View Post

Spyro the Dragon Review Feat. MykonosFan! Next MARATHON!

This week will have two full reviews for you guys!  First up is a video that's been in the works in some form for well over a year, my review of the first Spyro game with MykonosFan.  It ended up getting pushed back several times as other projects got shifted around, but in the end I'm actually pretty happy it did.  Despite the script actually being in the older, less-optimized style (History and Skill Points sections, for example), it came out very "new"-era TGB....

Tomba! 2 Review! Giveaway Announcement! Exclamations!

I meant to post this at some point last week...whoops. If you haven't already seen it, my Tomba! 2 review is up! At the end of the video there's also a link to a fun video I did with with minimme looking at 5 visually impressive PS1 games, so if you missed that give it a watch! Also, in the next day or so, I'll be announcing a giveaway to celebrate hitting 2,000 subscribers and also to celebrate my second YouTube birthday. I figured the least I could do is give back a bit, so you can enter t...

Patreon Update! Top 10 Games of 2017! Exclamations!

As some of you have seen in the Discord, I've been thinking out loud and discussing with you guys how to move forward involving which posts to charge for and whatnot.  The leap into the mini-documentaries a la PSAS on top of reviews made it tough to phrase how I'd charge Patrons between either of those.  Digital & Dice (thanks Mark!) phrased it in a way that clicked, while suggesting that I shift to a monthly charge:  If you guys are supporting the channel, you're supporting i...

PSAS Part 2, end of year plans, and misc. cleanup!

In case you haven't seen yet, What Went Wrong: PSAS Part 2 is up, and it might be my favorite video I've made! Obviously you guys aren't getting charged for this one as it's an extension of another video, but I wanted to notify you anyway because of the stuff below this. Looking at the amount of enjoyment both I and the viewers got out of PSAS, I'll likely do another one of this longer, more transformative video in the future. However that isn't a "review," and as such wouldn't get charged unle...

Wulverblade Review!

This is a review that's been in the pipeline for a little bit now, after a couple days of technical difficulties rendering it, it's finally ready! Wulverblade is a new arcade-styled beat-em-up currently out on Switch that's coming soon to Steam, PS4, and Xbox One. Let's find out if it's worth picking up!

Looking Back: PlayStation All-Stars, What Went Wrong?

I checked with you guys on Discord, and a majority voted in favor of this counting as a "review," since it was actually MORE work than a review!  I did split the video into two parts, to account for some new information that came to light during editing - you guys will only receive one charge for this video, that one won't count separately or anything.  This is one of the first videos I wanted to make when I decided on doing a YouTube channel, because this game had a massive impact on ...

Shrektober contiunes! Smash n' Crash Racing Review

For anybody wondering about the delay between the first and this Shrek video, I came down with a cold that made it a bit tough to record.  Of course, afterwards I realized that I had this script recorded already, so I sat around sick and doing nothing for no reason...Still!

The third (final?) Shrektober video for this month should be up on or before Halloween, barring any setbacks.  I'm just waiting on my sore throat to heal up to get it recorded and edited.

Tiny Barbarian DX Review!

Shrektober is coming, don't worry!  I had the chance to review a game on day one for the first time, when Nicalis provided a code to me for this game on the Nintendo Switch.  So, I overworked myself a bit and got it done!  Coincidentally, this is also my most controversial review yet!  There'll be the first Shrek video in the coming days.

Star Wars: Episode I Racer Review!

Obviously I'm not gonna make this a charged post since it's the first of the month, and the video came out yesterday. That'd be a dick move - I just forgot to post it to be totally honest! Running on very little sleep and all that. Anyway, here's the latest review!
