In this episode of Sailing Dark Angel, we sail from Fort Lauderdale, Florida to Bimini in the Bahamas. Our new mainsail doesn't survive the trip unscathed. I perform my first anchor check of the season. We sail to Gun Cay to wait out some wind before we finally head for the Exumas. Dave tries to fix the broken sail. You can't stop at Gunn Cay without visiting Honeymoon beach! Or can you?

We cruise the ICW south to Beaufort North Carolina, where we head out to the ocean bound for Charleston, and then on down to St Augustine, Florida, turning weeks of sailing on the ICW into about a week of sailing down the coast.
A spinnaker mishap is disappointing, but the weather is warming up!

Our dinghy "Imp" has been running around without navigation lights. We rarely run at night, and never in the US, but that's going to change so we are adding a dinghy light kit to her. The kit looks high quality. Let's see if the installation is as well. See how much I love Imp

In St Augustine we installed the brand new Precision main sail we had waited months for. It didn’t go well. With the slider cars too small and no battens, we no sooner got her all the way up, when she broke free of the mast. So we called Precision Sails, took the sail back down, folded it up, and repacked it to send off to warranty-land. Precision shipped our sail to our friends at Bacon Sails and Marine Supplies in Annapolis to replace the sliders and supply the battens.

Afterward it's time to service our Volvo MD2030 29hp, 3cylinder diesel engines... except the oil change. We don't have a container for the used oil

In this episode of Sailing Dark Angel, we grudgingly check into a marina for the first time since December 2022. We hope a shore power connection will help us to restore our failing Firefly AGMs. If we can't fix our 8 battery house bank, we'll need new batteries. We are already planning a solar upgrade and we're really not prepared to add the expense of new batteries unless we absolutely need to. Can AGMs be saved?

We pull out our Airmar tri sensor while in the water! I can’t believe we opened a through-hull below the water line, while we’re in the water!
An unscheduled thunderstorm filled our rain catchment, but it also filled our fuel and oil lazzarrette, so I bring out the bucket of suck.
After the chores are done, it's playtime
But eventually we got our ducks in a row
When we're stuck at an anchorage, waiting for parts, we break out the boat projects.

We cruise up the ICW from Chesapeake toward the Chesapeake Bay, but we get stuck in Norfolk/Portsmouth when the starboard transmission shifter cable breaks. The hour we spent waiting for a railway bridge to open didn't help. Hovering requires a lot of shifting.
Can we fix the transmission shifter cable on our port Volvo MD2030 saildrive, or are we going to have to find a replacement? Where will we find one? How do we figure out what cable we need? How will we get it to the boat?

In this episode of Sailing Dark Angel we catch the weather and head north from Charleston, SC, both offshore and up the ICW. We drag anchor in a tight, shallow anchorage, and work our way up the US east coast toward Norfolk, VA
Navionics dock to dock routing is sketchy from Georgia to Virginia. We use this on the iPhone, but back it up with our chartplotter.
