SDA66P Mantus Anchor Hook Repair while Dragging Anchor!

In this episode of Sailing Dark Angel we catch the weather and head north from Charleston, SC,  both offshore and up the ICW. We drag anchor in a tight, shallow anchorage, and work our way up the US east coast toward Norfolk, VA

Navionics dock to dock routing is sketchy from Georgia to Virginia. We use this on the iPhone, but back it up with our chartplotter.

SDA65P Spinnaker Sailing and Lightning Strikes!

The lightning strikes are no joke on the Herb River near Savannah Georgia. We wait out a huge, unscheduled thunderstorm on our way to Charleston, South Carolina. How many near strikes can you count?

We wade through the sea of sticks and branches to get offshore, where the spinnaker makes her appearance once again.

SDA64N Decals and an Unwelcome Visitor in the Georgia Swamp

In this episode of Sailing Dark Angel we install new cockpit and bow decals, and add the missing halo to our name on the stern. Then we cast off to cruise up the coast toward Savannah, Georgia. A hitchhiker boards in the middle of the night by climbing into the bean bag chairs we use to block access to our cockpit from the sugar scoop, and Lisa carries it all the way to the bow before she discovers the little freeloader!

If you know what kind of slitherer we acquired, please let us know...

SDA63N What's Wrong with our New Main Sail?

We cruise up the Florida coast with a stop at Marineland Marina for  dinner with friends, and to close the loop on our starting point as  cruisers.
Then we grab a mooring ball in St Augustine to finally install  our long awaited Precision Sails main sail. With superbroker Ian  helping us we install the sail, and with Ian and Marissa's help, we pack  it back up.
What went wrong?
I managed to find a private place in the middle of the busy marina.

SDA62N Hydrofoils, Prop Seals and Barbecue

We head down the Florida coast to visit friends, replace yet another  prop seal, replace our grilling setup and install a hydrofoil on Imps'  outboard engine, to help her get on plane.
The prop seal is very bad news. This is going to be an expensive,  ongoing issue until we can afford to replace the prop shafts.
You cannot use a regular propane tank on a Magma BBQ, and a hydrofoil  wont help your outboard if your dinghy isn't set up right.

In our final big dive of the Bahamas, we explore the remains we see on  the horizon when the rain stops In Bimini. Turns out, it's the shipwreck  of a fast ship called Sapona.
This magical structure has abundant  coral, tons of reef fish, stingrays, jellyfish, pufferfish and so much  more! Even "Dying Light" video game underwater plants. The magic is so  extreme, it turns Lisa into a mermaid!?!

SDA58P Storming Off to Bimini

We weigh anchor in the rain and wander out across the tongue of the  ocean. Dodging squalls and showers we drop the hook off the NorthWest  Channel near the Berry Islands.  After a rolly night anchored between no and where, we sail on to Mackie  Shoal about 1/2 way to Bimini, where we take a dip out of sight of land  in any direction.
Calm, sunny weather greeted us as we reached Bimini, but we knew it  wouldn't last. We anchored just before the rain sta...

SDA55N Crash Landing a Perfect Dive

In this episode of Sailing Dark Angel, we take our time and fly the spinnaker to Normans Cay . This time at Normans, we time it just right for diving the plane wreck.
Will Dave ever figure out how to rig the spinnaker right the first time?

Swimming against current is a challenge, but we time the dive on this wrecked Curtiss C46-Commando perfectly. The twin engine cargo plane crashed on November 15, 1980

SDA54N Paddleboards and Thunderstorms

After Compass Cay we leave Shroud Cay, where we counted three thunderstorm cells going through. Then we push on to Allan's Cay for a few days. Some neighbours drop in. We get a short, but very windy storm, and Dark Angel gets her bottom wiped. We explore South Allan's Cay from the water, the air and on land.

SDA53N Fast Moving Coral

There's so much to see in Pipe Creek, near Compass Cay, the Bahamas, that we spent day after day walking the sandbars and exploring the coral gardens. We had a tough time filtering down hours of video to bring you some of the most beautiful coral we've seen so far.
The shallow shallows and deep cuts come with plenty of current to make swimming a challenge. Accompanied by some very big barracuda, and schools of fish, including a whole school of parrotfish, we bring you a...
