So what would Vampire Vince want to eat?  Our oldest has recently discovered Hot-Pockets so I couldn't get the idea of him sinking his fangs into one out of my head!  I planned on having Fran and Joel in the background reacting to the scene, some ideas were

It's become a tradition of mine to do one "What if they were _____ " Halloween comic.  Previously I've done zombies, robots and aliens, but this year I went for vampires.  As always with these types of comics, I started crossing normal family stuff with the theme -eating, bedtime, fights, school etc etc.  Bedtime was a strong contender with coffin jokes, but the idea of Vince being a fussy bloodsucker made me chuckle.  We've had times when our oldest wouldn't eat something...

Worked like a crazy person yesterday and managed to only be a day late with this!  So here she is: Fran's Mom!  This one is based on a true story which I'll go into when I post the time-lapse video! 

Sept Exclusive Comic Running Late!

I was already behind due to our trip away, but then covid found me again!  Don't worry, we're all fine, it just knocked me on my ass for a few days!  The Sept comic is going well though and is kind of 2 comics -one set when Fran was a kitten and the other present day.  I'm just about to start inking now, so not too much longer!  I can't wait to show you!! :D

I had this one in my notes and I couldn't remember if 9yo had said the last line, or if I'd added it.  He definitely asked if atoms have colors, because it worked on me just like the comic!  If you're wondering, google says they don't, but judging by the arguments raging in my notifications, the science certainly isn't settled! 😆 

Some in the commenters since posting have also been upset with Fran calling Vince "a little shit", but I must confess I do in real life too!...

It was initially a toss up between this comic being about making the bed and wrapping a present, as I'd noted my cats being similar terrors on both.  The bed changing won because it had the the innuendo angle, so that made the wrapping paper the bonus panel.

I found the ridiculousness of this hilarious (seriously! HOW?!) but then I had to draw the thing!  It needed to be clearly Fran in there, so I drew over her head shape and posed her body to be more cat-like.  But pape...

My new(ish) cats continue to pay for themselves with comic ideas!  Fiasco goes crazy when I try to change the bedsheets and it's a wonder he hasn't been trapped underneath yet!  I knew there was a comic there, I just had to think of an angle.  

I thought about Fran somehow getting stuck under the sheets while changing them, but it would of course be impossible, so I started thinking about the kids getting under there, maybe her calling Joel in to help by holding them back...

I had 2 ideas for this one.  The first was Fran sunbathing saying something like "I gave up!", with a bunch of Halloween animatronics around her and the second was this one -which was much easier to draw, so it won! 😅

I know a lot of artists hate drawing foreshortening (perspective), but I actually rather enjoy it!  The more extreme the better!  As long as you don't get too hung up on it being "right" you can take a lot of artistic license and the wonkiness hides much ...

I had this idea too late last year so I had to sit on in.  Not being a coffee drinker.
