One thing I try my best to do is to vary up panel structure whenever I think to do so. I have an unspoken rule with myself that I never use the exact same panel structure two pages in a row.
This more vertical one is an example of me trying more stuff out!

The one annoying thing about thumbnails is that sometimes you draw something REALLY GOOD in them, and then have to hope you can replicate it in the page proper. The temptation to copy/paste that hand is strong...

I spent so much time trying to figure out a look for this pizza place that it's one of the few thumbnail pages that spilled onto another page in a while. I tried to mix the "old family pizza place" vibe with something more futuristic and State Fair-inspired.
Hilariously, there is like, two shots were you actually get to see the place in its glory. Ah, the world of comics.

One of the ways I try to keep the conversations in the comic interesting is by playing around a lot with expressions and poses.
This process does, however, tend to involve lots of trial and error to get the right look out of the situation.
