From Russia With Love

This series will be mostly black and white images, but with a few color photos added for my $5 patreons.  Inna B-G is a New York based model, originally from Russia.  Her parents still live there.  I met her when she toured through Wyoming last summer.  She contacted me and asked if I would be interested in shooting with her.  See some of that work here on Patreon.  We continued to keep in touch and set up this shoot (January 25) in early October.  As it turned...

Bonus Photos - Early Stuff

Again trying to capture light and shadows.  I thought this one was a really great photo at the time.  Now I look back and see the bruises on her legs that I should have gotten rid of.  I should have had her raise her head a little more and waited for her to put her hand down.

Looking back on them I realize these were taken in 2014, not that long ago.  I've progressed quite a bit since these early photos were taken and quickly figured out that studio work wasn't reall...

Getting a little artsy with my work.  Samantha was also really great to work with.  She and I were trying to capture some movement.

Still in the studio as you can see, but I think I'm getting at least a little bit better handle on what I'm doing.  Jackie was an absolute blast to shoot with.  Very spontaneous and fun.  We worked well together.  I was still struggling with post processing and lighting.

Kaylee was new at modeling and I don't think she does it anymore.  We were experimenting with the light setups and trying to make the shadows very hard.  At least we succeeded on that.  I should have asked her to raise her eyes to the light, and my processing really sucked here.  Notice the little white spec just under her left breast.  I also really missed with the light on her left breast.

Early Photos - Bonus

Okay so I was asked to post some of my very first photos with models.  So here you go.  I'm not going to say they were any good, but at the time, I thought they were good enought to warrant processing.  All of them were studio work.  You now see why I went outdoors.  Most of the time I was thinking please God, don't let the camera fall out of my hands. :-)) I look back on these and shudder for the most part.  But I can see that I was trying for lighting angles to hi...

Even Cowgirls get the Blues

This is just a small sampling of the art we created over the three days.  Stay tuned for more of Lillias including more from this series as well as others.

Let me just take a short break.

It's so hard to find a good mechanic these days so I'll just have to do it myself.

Really, really hot in here.

Even Cowgirls Get The Blues

Let's see it is getting hot in here.  After all it is Arizona.  We had to fight with several thousand bees during this shoot.  I wasn't stung, but I can't say the same for the models.

Lillias Right and I shot this series at the Arizona Shoot Out.  She and I actually shot several times over the course of three days.  We had been discussing shooting with each other for about a year, but our schedules had never matched until the AZSO.  She is one very talented model and a joy to work with.  She maintains her own Patreon site so go on over and check it out as well.

One last photo to showcase this beautiful woman.

Like I said, I had not had the opportunity to shoot with Kay Jay at the AZSO, but I'm glad that I took the opportunity to shoot with her as she was travelling through with Lillias.  She and I are dicussing our next shoot.  Hopefully more photos of this lovely woman will be coming soon.

As always, I hope you are enjoying this photostream and recommend me to a friend if you're so inclined.

You do have to worry about spiders, snakes, and Gila Monsters at this location.

My first choice for a first time shoot is this area of the Nevada desert.  It provides numerous nooks and crannies to shoot in and there is no such thing as harsh light.  You can always move to a shaded area to get different lighting effects.  The red rock reflects light with a shade all its own.  I've even known a model that shot here in a desert downpour and got some great photos, although to this day she claims it was the most miserable shoot of her life.  We had grea...

I shot several photos of Kay Jay and Lillias solo.  They are both great models and wonderful to work with.  I tell people my style is to shoot a beautiful woman in beautiful surroundings to create art.  The photography is usually a collaborative effort between the model and me.  I'm not the type of photographer that plans out each shoot in infinite detail.  Like I said I have a general concept.

I met Kay Jay at the Arizona Shootout but didn't take the opportunity to shoot with her at that time.  My Bad :-)  She and Lillias came through Nevada on a swing to the north and Lillias asked me if I would be interested in shooting the both of them.  Fist to forehead here, of course I said yes.  This series was shot along with the photos of the both of them.

Bree

This is the full size version of Bree's portrait photo.  We shot several hundred photos this day.  I've included this one because as we closed out shooting in this small cavern, Bree said, "what the hell have I been standing on my toes for?  You can't see them behind this rock."  Like I said earlier, the consumate model. :-)

I hope you've enjoyed this small set.  As I said, we shot several hundred photos during this shoot and I'm sure you'll be seeing more of Br...

As I said this location is along a very busy tourist route.  The first stop along the route is usually the native American petroglyph panel you see in the background of this photo.  Bree and I were talking during the shoot that she had been photographed in front of rock art in Australia and petroglyphs elsewhere around the globe, but not in front of petroglyphs in America.  We decided to brave the tourists and try to capture her in front of these.  This shot was a little tric...

This shot was a little tricky in that you were shooting into the sun but with Bree in a shaded location.  You can just see the solar halo above Bree's right elbow.  I also like the lichen you find on the rocks at this location, basically, "I'm liken the lichen".  Apologies.  As I said earlier, when you're shooting with Bree you know she will nail the pose.  Here, notice how her arms conform with the curvatures of the rocks, and her back and hips also mold around the rock...

This location provides a lot of different backdrops and shooting set ups.  You can shoot here for the entire day (which we almost did) and not get to many of the spots you want to shoot.  Oh well, something to do on a different day. :-)

Another variation of one of my favorite poses.  Of course Bree nails it.

This location offers several types of shots from the prone  pose seen in a later photo to a standing nude pose.  I like this pose because the rock formations set the foreground and Bree's skin tones contrast very nicely with the blue sky.  The desert southwest does provide some clear blue sky.

We hit one of my favorite top secret spots in the Nevada desert.  There's a lot of travel going on around this spot, but it's secluded and out of the way.  So even though there's a lot of traffic and people within a couple hundred yards, they're usually not aware to what's going on.

2016 was kind of a rough year for Bree.  Lot's of stuff going on in her life.  I was really fortunate to shoot with her a couple of times last year, and when I learned she was going to be in the neighborhood, I asked her to collaborate on some Nude in Nature photos to start my year off right.  This is the result of our efforts.  Let me just say that Bree is one of the most professional models I've worked with.  You really have to be on your toes, because every pose she h...

Freya

Freya really personifies the wild woman of the west.  She is really a "jack of all trades" and wonderful to work with.  She told me when she first contacted me that she was completely unshaven, and I immediately thought about trying to work her into a pioneer woman kind of shoot.  The light this morning was pretty harsh during the shoot but we still got several good photos. This is the AOL shot Don. :-)

It was a bright sunny day which the models usually appreciate.

She was cautiously watching for vehicles driving by the whole time.  There was only one instance where someone stopped and she had to cover up.  They left after walking around and snapping a few photos of the buildings.

The location itself was selected by the movie producers, because it provides some really great views of the Tetons.  Personally I think Freya adds to the view.  You have to be somewhat cautious because the location is next to a main road, and tourists are driving by all the time.  They usually don't stop because its just a bunch of abandoned buildings, but they will stop if they see a car parked on the side of the road just to figure out what you're looking at.
