Do not fear

That's my #1 tip. One of the longest running art jokes is hands are scary and hard, and while I always side with a good goof, I think this one has overstayed its welcome a bit. When you hear from everyone that hands are scary you start to believe it, and combined with already-present apprehensions, you'll get in your own head when you draw them and likely feel like they are always going to be bad and/or a struggle. That's how I thought a few years ago because I thought hands...

Using a brush with a very high opacity watercolor edge, meaning each stroke has its own outline and it's pretty cool to see exactly where my hand moved with each stroke

A lot of people have asked me what species he is and the thing is I don't know

I very rarely approach character design with species, shapes are what I care about most and features arise out of the combination of shapes. After all of those features are in place the brain runs its catalogue feature and tries to make sense of it, so some things "kind of" look like a cat or "kind of" look like a monkey

Post-creation the animal that looks most similar to him is a golden snub nosed monk...
