It's been a bit of an odd week.

I had to buy quite a few new 3D assets for some new scenes and decided to update Daz and my Nvidia drivers along with them. Turns out that was not a good idea, and the 'new and improved' Daz gave me quite a few problems. First, the new 3D scene I had bought would not render at all, and it took me a full day before I realized that it was just that new asset and not the ones I already owned.

As I mentioned last week, I had an idea of making a lewd roam, and that took most of this week to complete. The reason for this was that the animations were rather complicated compared to the normal 'in-out' stuff, as I wanted to give you as many options as possible.

End the end, that turned out to be 16 animations for that scene alone, which shows just how much things had changed since I started doing this when 2-4 animations were the norm and non-lewd animations were nonexistent.

At this stage of development, most of my time is spent posing renders and sending them to the render queue.

Still, there are scenes I've planned out, but when I get to actually doing them, I get new ideas based on the environment, scenes preceding them, or any number of random things. The render marathon continues, and that's all I've been doing this week - posing and rendering. Everything has been going smoothly, and I've shattered my previous record of how much I've been able to output in a single week with 288 new story renders and 1,426 new frames of animation for this week alone. The total numbers for episode 3 so far are 526 story renders and 2,714 frames of animation.

I have been working on visuals all week, and for now have a small render queue going. I've been rendering constantly all week, so the numbers are now at 248 story renders and 1,288 animated frames.

I really don't like how Daz Studio does lipstick. If you apply it normally by adding the lipstick that comes with the assets, you will see a very harsh line between the lip and skin, so I've been manually drawing on lipstick to the face textures instead as I think the result is much better. A...

Dev Diary, February 2nd, 2024, and a poll.

As you might have noticed, I made a major change to the game for the bugfix version, where I removed the 'time limit' and the perks.


I didn't do this because anybody told me to, but because I felt it was a misunderstood feature and took focus away from the game and the story. In the same go, I simplified ways to exit the free roams so that you can use that functionality if you don't want to go through every free roam fully for re-runs.

I finally finished the 'hotel free-roam' this week, and I'm extremely happy with how it turned out.

One of the reasons it took so much work and time, is that I will re-use it in episode 4, and thus save some time when I get to that part. Because of this, I had to think ahead on most I did, so that later on I can start or end the free-roam on any floor, fill in navigation info for future events, and introduce more random events.

Another week of mostly scripting. I managed to output more than 4k lines of script and dialogue, so it's good progress.

Compared to episode 1, which was about 18k lines in total, I'm sure I'll surpass that by a whole lot.

I decided to finally re-do the old perks system from episode 1 of u4ia, and I'm very happy about the result. In the new revised version, you choose a perk at the start of every episode, and you also have a choice later on in the episode that will affect your stats.

Just a quick update, as I've barely begun recovering from being sick for most of the week.

I had a fever on and off for a full week, but from Wednesday when it finally let go, I've been struggling with dizziness.

Just dropping by with a very quick update this time.

As I was working on Wednesday, I could feel that something was brewing, and sure enough, it was. Decided to power through it, but by Thursday, it was game over, so I've been in bed since then.

Don't think it's covid, but I haven't been able to test yet (all my tests were broken).

2,372 frames of animation were done this week, and they are all for the cinematic I mentioned last Friday.

The positive is that having all the animations rendering meant my significant other could finally drag me out of the house and we could get the Christmas shopping out of the way. The negative is, well, having two computers doing Dforce simulations and rendering nonstop, there was no increase in story renders.

I got a question in the comments of last week's dev diary about the length of Episode 2, so I thought I'd give you a rundown about what to expect from the upcoming release.

U4iA, Episode 2, is much more complex than the first episode compared to the number of choices you have. The amount of things you can see and experience in one playthrough exceeds what you could do in episode 1. On the other hand, it's largely up to you.
