I'm making the last adjustments to CA9, and preparing it for release. And one of these final touches is fluids. To be honest, I totally forgot how to use them and what I need to take into consideration when preparing to add them. And CA9 is a good opportunity to remember how they work. You don't want awfully looking liquids in A15 and MA1, do you?

Welp, this time my biggest enemy was scene lighting. While character animation was done in roughly 2-3 hours, the lighting took a few days to evolve into something usable.

I began working on it without any ideas on how it should be lighted. And quite quickly it became obvious that a simple 3-point light setup won't work. Slowly crawling out from under a table after celebrating New Year, it's time to continue to working on my projects. The first full release this year will be CA9 (not including the New Year Special).

I did not forget about you guys! I was working on MA1 this week and managed to make good progress!
Yeah, it still has a lot of problems and it's kinda raw, but it can be fixed relatively easily and quickly. Currently, the main problem is that something broke in the lighting. I guess it's because of EEVEE Next (of course), but it needs testing. I would really like to port it to Unreal as it has A LOT better lighting solutions, but sadly this model breaks as soon you try to export it. If ...

This is getting out of hand, another "short" animation becomes a quite long one. I can't stop making short animations a lot longer, even if it's something "simple".
There are still a lot of things to do, like fixing a hand, adding collisions to her hood, fixing clipping, etc. I'm unsure about the ending, I can't figure out a good pose for it. The current one seems ok, but I feel like I can find a more suiting one.

I'm sorry for GIF quality and size. I don't know why it's so big. I've compressed it to oblivion to reduce file size and still, it wasn't enough.
This is a rough base for the ending. Here you can see the third loop in action at the beginning and the whole ending (for now).

Working on ending and got the dilemma. Should magic stick fully enter or not?
Why do I even think about it? There are 2 things - First, I've made her hole tight as hell. You can clearly see that when the stick enters, her whole body is pushed up. It's visible in first part, and in second part she uses a tree to push herself against the force from below.

I added eyebrows and eyelids to test how better it would look. It definitely makes her more alive.
Here is the thing, I thought that adding eyebrows would make her look better but in practice it looks unfitting. That's why I included two versions in this post. Most likely I won't add them to the release version.

There are no good animations or even posters with immortal set, it's time to fix it.
This is a short animation that consists of 2 simple loops and an ending. I got used to working on short and simple animations so this can be done quickly.

2nd part of the intro is nearly finished. I need to create a transition to the main part and fix tentacles and that's all for the 2nd intro part. Meanwhile, I've started working on 1st intro part. It should take less time as it already has a block-out and the only thing left is to spline and polish it. I plan to make the next MA1 WIP contain a full intro if I don't screw up with deadlines.

I was thinking about how "eggs" or seeds will look like in MA1 and CA8-B (I'll tell later) and come up with 3 variants.
The question was raised because of how weird it looks that a plant-based creature uses eggs to spread around. Usually, eggs come from chickens and... lizard-like creatures (?), while plants use seeds and similar stuff.
So we have 3 options:
Spent some time on the environment for this animation and... for now it looks like I'm doing good.
It's a complicated scene to work with. You can see how hard it is to add proper lights in previous WIPs. I need to figure out how to make a good transition between dirt and grass. Thus while I'm writing this text I already can see that I need to work on colors for sure, currently it is way too yellow-tinted. There is a lot of work to do, but at least it will look the same as CA8 or better...

And here we are. I've planned to post the whole finished intro, but it would be better if I just shared the current progress on it.
Obviously, it's still unfinished. Roughly speaking, it's 50% done. I hope I'll be able to finish the intro and environment, and maybe a bit of the ending this week.

This animation is something special and I thought about how I would name it and what the backstory would be for a long time. I know there weren't any posts for a week, I was working on CA9 and was busy dealing with health issues in my family.
I've moved CA9 to the secondary branch and now it's got into development hell officially. Mainly because of model issues and the overall difficulty of the animation. In the middle of the night, unusual sounds come from the local tavern. You sneak in to investigate the source of these sounds only to catch a big squirrel deep-throating guy that seems to be a lead of the "forest-planting" team.

I need to start by answering one question - "Why are you working on MA2 instead of MA1 or CA9?"
