It didn't take her long before she was rolling around in the sand, allowing herself to be illuminated by a secondary hole in the rock.

With the fire burning down a bit, Sid changed into an awesome beach cover-up she had brought. It reminded me a lot of an outfit I had seen Captain Britain's girlfriend Meggan wear in an early issue of the comic book Excaliber. For some reason, that reference excited me more than it should have, but I didn't care, I was sticking to it.

Hidden Away, Pt. 20

I was constantly on the watch for both on-lookers and the rising tide. A friend had warned me that it was easy to get trapped in these caves, and since I had never been down there before, I was definitely on my guard. Thankfully, everything was fine, and the few people who came to investigate the smoke billowing from the cave quickly saw me and moved on without question.

This pose was definitely a winner. And I loved the subtle highlights of the fire illuminating her ribs and breast. It's those little details that can make a mediocre image become great.

Originally when we shot these, she didn't want her face shown, one of the many models that was fine being as naked as possible as long as she retained her anonimity. In the two years since we shot these, she has become much more open about her life, not at all afraid of the repurcussions or judgement from her family. I talk to most of my past models fairly regularly, and during a recent conversation she encouraged me to share this set with all of you. So here you go.

She decided to lay on her back next, and I loved this pose so much I couldn't stop shooting images of her.

I quickly discovered that Sid always looked serious, being plagued with that "Resting Bitch Face," as she called it, but she also had a beautiful smile. She was fun and silly, never taking herself to seriously. She kept thinking she was a bad model, thinking she needed to pose or hit some sort of mark, but I advised her just to be herself, move fluidly and naturally, and that it was my job to capture that all in a good way.

Here she flipped over onto her butt screaming "New pose!"

Another thing I loved about Sid was her prominent tan lines. A photographer friend of mine refused to call her by her name, always asking me "Take any more photos of Tan Lines lately?"

I thought that the feel of the shoot had a ship-wrecked quality to it, so she tried on these long white socks that looked a bit Old World to me. I'm not sure if it was the right choice stylistically, but I don't really seem the harm, either. Hey, nobody's perfect.

Apart from her body, I was loving this shoot because of the textures and colors. The light of the fire caught the rocks beautifully, and the opening of the cave provided a second light source that added just enough light to give her shape form and definition.

At 18 years old, Sid was in her prime. Active and athletic, Sid didn't have to try hard to look as well as she did.

Sid was a sweetheart, down for anything, and not afraid to get wet, start a fire, or strip in public. I wish they were all so willing. A week into our friendship, I talked her into going for a drive to a nearby beach, where we hiked around and down into this cave, started a fire, and began to shoot before the tide rolled in.

I met Sid through my model Hana, who had recommended her saying that she was very open. On our first meeting, Sid immediately got naked and began rolling around on my bed, so I was glad to see I hadn't been led astray.

Valentine's Day isn't a lot of fun for most people. When you're alone on this day when eveyone is sharing their love, you might feel like you want to run away and hide. So in honor of that, here's a shoot in a beach cave from a long while ago that most people have never seen. Enjoy!
