Another Lonely Day, Pt. 13

Her mouth and the placement of her hand here is just extraordinary. There were several shots very similar to this, and picking the absolute best of the best was like a decision made by Solomon.

She also just likes being blunt, using the phrases "my tits," "the rockin' tits," "my big ol' tits!" Personally I've never been a fan of that word, since it's such an unclassy term for such beautiful, elegant things, but I try not to complain when a woman says it, especially about themselves.

We debated going out into her back yard to shoot in the rain, but before we tackled that freezing hell, we took a few last shots "of the girls," as she likes to call them.

One trick I use, with both models and friends when they are feeling low, is to just keep them talking. Eventually a sarcastic response to what they are telling me will usually help lighten their mood. With my deep understanding of McKenzie, I'm really quite good at making her smile from time to time.

McKenzie confessed that she hadn't been shooting much lately, mainly due to her feeling self-conscious. She'd recently gained just a few pounds, but it was enough for her to begin doubting herself more than usual.

But above all else, no matter how she was feeling, she is still a gorgeous and natural model in front of the camera.

McKenzie did like dressing how she felt, and being the original Goth kid in her school, she has loads of black clothing liteering her closet. I was also a fan of her juicy, dark eye shadow and glossy lips. She has a gret sense of styling herself for our collaborations.

Thankfully, there were a few times I was able to get her out of her head and enjoy the moment.

Another Lonely Day, Pt. 3

She definitely wasn't her radiant self, and I tried desperately to get her to open up, make her laugh, etc. Though we aren't close as in talking every week, we have a fundamental trust of each other that I hoped would help her start her way out of her feelings.

When I arrived, McKenzie was obviously in a deep, dark mood. She struggles with a melancholy temperament, but this day was something else, something more fundamental.

At Home With Brooke, Pt. 19

I end this set with probably my favorite photo from the series. It's so simple and elegant and simple, yet the more you stare at it, the more appreciation you find for the details, the textures. At least I do. What do you think? What subtle things, apart from her obvious assets, stand out here to you?

At Home With Brooke, Pt. 18

Something I rarely share is the experience of traveling to all my destinations. Los Angeles is about a two and a half hour drive from my home, and on bad days it is considerably longer with traffic. This is a double exposure I took that evening as the sun went down. i had left home around 6 a.m. and had been shooting all day with four separate models. I was exhausted but felt pride in all that I had accomplished, though still dismayed that only half the work was done. I'd spend the next month ed...

With the bathroom mirror directly in front of her, Brooke took advantage of the situation and studied the shapes she was making, helping me create more dynamic images.

Running out of ideas for our quick shoot, I advised Brooke to just put back on the pants she had been wearing when she arrived. As you can see, it was the proper choice.

it had been gloomy and overcast all day, which fit both our moods, so we went out on the balcony of my friend's place and shot out there for a bit. We ended up attracting some atttention, no big surprise there, and after only a few brief moments had to come back inside.

We were shooting at the same apartment building where, just that morning, model Ana Corbi and I had been forcibly removed from the roof. (Find that story at this "ana" tag link: https://www.patreon.com/markvelasquez/posts?tag=ana)

Needless to say, I was tired by the time we were shooting these.

Brooke is an advocate for LGBT rights, women's equality, and is a major supporter of animal rights, devoting her life to rescuing dogs. She is definitely that person who will stop on the freeway to pick up a stray dog that has found itself in the wrong place.

Like most women I've worked with, Brooke cares too much, gives too much of herself, and then often suffers when people take advantage of her kindnesses.
