Though the weather wasn't great, there was still just enough sun in the sky for tourists and hikers to occasionally drop by the same area, and quickly Erika gave me that look that meant "can we find somewhere else...?"

On this dreary, rainy day, Erika and I had set off on a hike to some caves I had always heard about but never visited. She knew exactly where to go, and within a few minutes we were planning on which outfits to shoot. Unfortunately, we weren't alone.

But despite her strong, aggressive tendencies, Mika isn't afraid to be silly, letting out her silly, goofy side. I posted these particular images to my Instagram account when we first shot them, and she was horrified that I had done so, even though she allowed me to do it reluctantly. She was even more frustrated when they turned out to be in my Top 9 most liked images of 2014, haha!

Next she tried on a latex hood and corset a specialty designer had made for her. It was black and intimidating and fit her true personality well. The look and style isn't what I'm known for, nor is it something I would consider part of my general aesthetic, but it was interesting to try working with that overall style.

With no real ideas, we were forced to do our first shoot with no real parameters. Still, with her look and experience, I think we managed to do some damage to the morning.

Mika had come in via bus to my home town the night before. We had spent the previous evening drinking and gossiping on my sofa, lamenting that the network of models and photographers we all work with will probably never get together and form the kind of supportive, communicative community that so many of us desire. She was leaving for LA the next day, so we only had that Sunday morning to shoot, so we decided to try out a bunch of new corsets and lingerie designers had given her.

Erika kept playing with the zipper, threatening to reveal herself, while our onlookers kept eagerly awaiting the moment. She never delivered, and I laughed to myself as I could hear a few stoners take a deep breath when the zipper went low, then hearing them sigh in disappointment when she would zip it back up. Erika can be cruel, haha.

We continued to just shoot in the same setting, with people swirling around us. I tried to only click when no one was in the background, and this shot was taken a fraction of second before Erika burst out in laughter because we had a spectator a little too close to us.

Erika kept on her warm workout pants and put on a hoodie she had brough, taking off everything else. Even in this odd and unusually brght outfit, she conveyed her always calm and peaceful elegance that I just love.

On this day, we got up early and hiked to a cave I had heard a lot about but had never ventured to. Even at that hour, there were still stoners around who kept getting in our way or being just annoying enough to prevent Erika from showing too much, so we did the best we could.
