Bare Essentials, Pt. 21

I really like this image. So subtle, yet a lot going on. I rarely allow myself to present an image this dark, though I have been shooting darker images a lot lately. I always want to pull out a lot of detail from the shadows, but I have to learn to let the darkness speak for itself.

Photographers: What do you think about that concept?

This is when I taught her the creative concept of "less is more," showing as much as possible without showing anything. She liked that idea a lot.

I'd had this skimpy pair of crocheted bikini bottoms, which can only be worn by the tiniest of women. Thankfully Sam is one of them.

Her hand placement here seems more suggestive than it actually was. But it still works for the image.

Once again, the subtle baby oil I had her apply really helps make her skin pop in this image.

I didn't want to ask too much of her, being only our second shoot. I was still trying to learn her mannerisms, understanding how her body moves and how she conveys her moods through body language. This is always important to learn when working with a new model, especially one with little experience. I can tell you how each of the women I've shot more than three times moves on any given occasion.

I love her face and pose here.

As mentioned before, Sam has a naivete and vulnerability that she easily conveys in her images, though that's not to say she is innocent by any means.

Though a few of these images were seen as the September Perk, I'm proud to show you a larger variety of uncensored images from that set.

Come to Life, Pt. 43

When i was finally brave enough to get out of the pool, I took one last shot of her before getting a towel for her and helping her out. It was a great start to a long working relationship, and I will dig through my archives to find more of our work soon.

She really is a great model.

I love this little series.

Apart from being a great model, Raven was a lot of fun. She was strong and opinionated and goofy, all my favorite characteristics.

We continued to shoot like that for another several minutes, and once I joined her in the hot tub, the difference in temperature made me not want to get out, either.

Come to Life, Pt. 37

This was the first shot I took of her in the hot tub, and of all the cool images we had shot that day, there's something I really love about it. Definitely a favorite.

Finally, she was too cold and couldn't take it anymore, so I told her I had captured more than enough and that she could now hop into the hot tub. Shivering and naked, she climbed over the adjoining pool/hot tub wall and dove in to the comforting warmth.

I really like this one for the sheer simplicity and beauty of the figure and the negative space she creates.

I rotated this image to play even more with the feeling or abstract, otherworldliness. I like how she's breaking the water.

Here's another favorite, another image I barely cropped in at all.

Come to Life, Pt. 30

The most exciting part about this image is that it was completely uncropped. This is exactly how I shot it, and since I never am looking while shooting underwater, with my head above the water, I take special pride in this composition.
