Light Magic, Pt. 4

As a dancer, she knew her body well, and though she was a bit self-conscious about her stomach area, she had no trouble executing my vague directions of "Uh...I dunno....just move around, and stuff."

Light Magic, Pt. 3

Another benefit (?) of these moods is my desire to work with new models, often jokingly referred to as "new meat" or "fresh blood."

I sent out a model search on Instagram and as feared, received almost a hundred messages from women who all seemed wonderful and sweet but didn't fit my criteria. Thankfully, a few were worth trying out, including Emily here. She is an adopted Latina who has been a ballet dancer her whole life. She was all set to become a prima ballerina in a prestigous dance prog...

Light Magic, Pt. 2

I have been going through some moody, dark periods which are cyclical in my life. These are things I don't really ever talk about, but I can usually see the shift in my work. For the keen observer, the pattern goes like this: I stop shooting for a while, then shoot stuff no one likes but feels meaningful to me, then shoot really dark stuff that people somehow begin to like, then get really experimental and not give a shit about what people think at all.

Hence, this new series, and the many oth...

Light Magic, Pt. 1

Every once in a while I get bored with just straight, well-lit photography, so I pull out all the lighting equipment and start playing around. Here is my most recent set of experiments, with many more coming.

For these shots, I only use retouching to clean up the minor blemishes or problems, but for the most part, these images are done entirely in-camera.  Please leave feedback in the comments!

Missing Summer, Pt. 44

Cherish is one of the most naturally beautiful, sexy, and alluring women I have ever known. She's also dorky, full of love for animals and the oppressed, loves comic books and sci-fi, and is a bit high-maintenance when it comes to make-up and self-tanner. I love this special lady like family, and we have been there for each other more times than either of us can count. I'm proud to keep shooting with her after ten years, and I hope we will continue to shoot when she's a beauty in her 70s and 80s...

Missing Summer, Pt. 43

Even after over an hour of posing for the camera, Cherish still looked as fresh and lovely as when we had started. She had already put her bra back on and had to take it off for these last shots, so you can see the imprint of the underwire in her skin here.

Missing Summer, Pt. 42

it's easy to see why I stopped her and asked to take these last few images. She really did appear quite flawless.

Missing Summer, Pt. 41

Once she put on her pants, still clinging to her sweater for warmth, I saw once again how great she looked, so I asked her to drop her bag for a few last shots. now that she was much warmer, she was game to keep going. Here's a GIF of her laughing to herself, saying "Is this what you want to see?!" in her mock-aggressive growl that is never intimidating to anyone.

Missing Summer, Pt. 40

I always love documenting the behind-the-scenes experience. The mass of clothes piled up on the sand, my camera bag overflowing with underwear and bras. the reality of these shoots is always far less glamourous than people ever want to think about.

Missing Summer, Pt. 39

Realizing we had taken hundreds and hundreds of photos, I told cherish we needed to stop, even though both of us didn't really want to because we were having a lot of fun. It had been great to joke, to catch up, to be productive, and even maybe boost her ego a bit, but now it was time to get back to reality. I quickly snapped a few shots while she ran with herlittle birdywalk back to her clothes, which she couldn't wait to put on and finally be warm again.

I love this shot. Though it might look a bit staged, I love the colors, tones, and ease of it all.

Missing Summer, Pt. 37

The dunes seem to be made for Cherish. I hadn't shot there in a long while for fear I had been overdoing it, but I'm glad I gave it another chance with her. She is every cliche California fantasy, and fantasies exist for a reason.

Missing Summer, Pt. 36

Since we had been focusing so much on her face and chest, cherish asked if i could take a few shots of her butt, which she says she is constantly working on and is finally happy with its growing size. Who was I to say no?

Missing Summer, Pt. 35

And in case people forget, no matter how alluring someone is, they usually are just a fun, dorky person underneath. Cherish definitely lives up to this rule.

Missing Summer, Pt. 34

As has often been the case with Cherish over the decade I've shot with her, there are just too many good photos to edit through. Instead of rejecting images I love for the sake of brevity, I love that I can share as much as I want here on patreon. And I assume no observers are complaining. Are you?

Missing Summer, Pt. 33

I love this image for a variety of reasons. Her gaze, the colors, the hint of nipple barely peeking out, and of course her hourglass shape and angle here, and more less tangible qualities.

Missing Summer, Pt. 32

Once agian, she makes it all look so effortless.

Missing Summer, Pt. 31

There were so many great shot of Cherish, I just had to include them all. Her skin tone, matching with the bodysuit and the sand, contrasted by the blue sky, all looked heavenly. I was shooting so fast that my camera's auto-focus swtiched and caught the clouds, rather than her, for one shot. I liked it in comparison to the rest of the shots that I thought I'd include it here.

Missing Summer, Pt. 30

Finally not miserable from the cold, Cherish looked relieved and confident.

View Post

Missing Summer, Pt. 29

Cherish was still a bit cold, so I advised her to grab her sweater and we headed down into a crevice between two large dunes. This allowed the wind, which was crisp and chill, to avoid us for the first time all morning. This was finally ewhen Cherish became warm, standing in the direct sunshine.

Missing Summer, Pt. 28

Behind her yu can still see how the dunes were wet from the rains the contral coast had been receiving. Though of course, how many of you are actually looking behind her?

View Post

Missing Summer, Pt. 27

As you can see, Cherish is always a lot of fun to be around.

View Post

Missing Summer, Pt. 26

I feelt bad about this shot, because she can see in her eyes that she's still cold and not terribly happy. The gritting teeth convey that, as well. Thankfully this was only a brief moment between long fits of laughter.

It doesn't get much better than this as a photographer. People would assume this is a fantasy, that this type of view or scene couldn't really exist in the real world. but believe me, it can.

Missing Summer, Pt. 24

I love how the wind caught her hair here.

View Post

Missing Summer, Pt. 23

That lady is just so darn thin!

View Post

Missing Summer, Pt. 22

One of the many things I love about this special lady is that no matter how cold or miserable she is, Cherish can always smile and have a good time. Even when I've seen her down and mopey, she can still make a wise-crack and convey that she doesn't take her negative mood completely serious.

Missing Summer, Pt. 21

Still fighting the chill in the air, I had Cherish stand up and move around, hoping the circulation would return to her fat-less extremities.

View Post

Missing Summer, Pt. 20

Even though Cherish was starting to get into the groove, she still had moments of being cold from time to time.
