A couple of quick announcements.

I always appreciate your support and I felt I should offer something to those who want to help but can only afford 2$. So from now on they will be getting 5 chapters ahead.

Also, for those of you who don't check out any of my stuff on Royal Road because you read it here, I have been messing with AI generated art. I posted a bunch of that on Royal Road here:

SSD 3.20 - Seeing the Stars

I have had quite a few new patrons join, and I am very grateful to all of you. I hope you all enjoy this chapter.

==POV: Tarrae==

A path, gently lit by lights embedding into columns of crystal, greeted us as we entered the cavern.

“Its beautiful,” said Norana.

“It is,” I said. “Any signs of anything, Soara?”

“Nothing so far, footing is completely solid to the edge of my range. Still a safe zone. Named the ‘Starlight Grotto.”

SSD 3.19 - Tunnel Vision

Here we go! Been owing a second chapter in a month to catch up for a while now, so here it is.

Hopefully you all enjoy it.

Tried my best with characterization to show that this a very different group of individuals and a very different team.

A standard first exploration dungeon team should have the following components:

  1. A sensor
  2. A healer
  3. A bulwark
  4. Ranged damage or control abilities
  5. At least one man, one woman, and one Adar...

SSD 3.18 - Interlude - Planting a Seed

Here we go.

Some more worldbuilding for all of you. Hopefully you can start to understand why this world has so many seasons, though I will be showing that more in a few chapters.

This interlude is actually shorter than I had originally intended. I have more things that I will have to write out later in another one. It simply reached such a perfect stopping point that I did exactly that.

And while I love LitRPG (hence why I am writing it) the skills, the math, descriptions, ...

Next Chapter Topic

I am debating between two options for the next chapter. The perspective of Tarrae as he and his party are entering the dungeon for the first, or going to take a quick look at Sevso and Gnaeus (aka Tam).

Also, just wanted to let all my patrons know that I thanked all of you and listed you all out when I posted a chapter on Royal Road. You guys are all amazing.

SSD 3.17 - In Remembrance

This chapter was originally supposed to be a small section of a larger chapter, but the muses interceded and so here we are. Hope you love it.

“This grand show is eternal. It is always sunrise somewhere; the dew is never all dried at once; a shower is forever falling; vapor is ever rising. Eternal sunrise, eternal sunset, eternal dawn and gloaming, on sea and continents and islands, each in its turn, as the round earth rolls.” ~ John Muir, John of the Mountains: The U...

SSD 3.16 - Stone, Ice, and Fire

I still owe you guys an extra chapter at some point, but for now I am just making sure that I get at least a chapter out each month.

The holidays were busy, but I did take the time to make some sketches of various creatures. You will get to see my rather poor art when the time is right. Until then, enjoy the chapter.

SSD 3.15 - First Contact

Sorry this is late, I still owe you guys another one for December.

One of the most annoying things about depression is that it can be very difficult to tell apart the restlessness that comes from wanting to write and the anxiety I get from depression.

Previous times I have felt just like today and would open up things to write and the motivation just wasn't there.

I felt the same way today and when I opened up a document it was possible to write. Still a little challen...

Novel Idea with Prologue - Dungeon Earth

So my brain has been refusing to let me write until I engaged with this novel idea, so I was compelled to do so. Hopefully now I can write the chapter in the next couple days to get to you guys.

Novel focuses on a person reincarnated from a human into an animal/monster body in an earth that has become a giant dungeon after a disaster. This would take place quite some time after the world had changed.

I wrote out a brief prologue that covers how the disaster happened:

SSD 3.14 - Naked Soul

As promised I am making sure I get at least one post up per month. Even if this one came down to the very wire.

Anyway, hope you guys enjoy this chapter and that it helps you understand what is going on with my characters avatar. I have seen them done badly in the past, so I am trying to avoid the pitfalls of that trope.

Happy Halloween!

An now, here we go:

SSD 3.13 - The Inner Self

This month has been a bit hectic. There was a death in the family that was sudden. Not someone I was close to, but it did directly impact some of the ones that I am close to. Plus I was out of town for about a week in the middle of the month.

Regardless, I have been promising myself that I will get out at least one chapter every month, because I believe it good for and because I believe that you, my amazing patrons absolutely deserve it.

I am actually quite pleased with how the re...

TUG 1.01 - Psychedelic Plants

Welcome to the first chapter of Thorn Under Glass, a litrpg superhero novel. Despite setting this in a superhero universe, a fair warning that the setting of this particular novel is very isolated from the outside. This makes it closer to post apocalyptic and superhero novel.

SSD 3.12 - A Test of Strength

I promised myself that no matter what I would get another chapter out this month. And I am glad to say that I managed to keep my promise. Here it is.

My brain has been fixated on another novel that is swirling around in my head. It made me write a chapter of that. For anyone interested I will be posting that shortly. It is another litrpg, in an AU Earth with super heroes.

You are all amazing. I have seen people donating and joining at various times of the month and I cannot expres...

Now we pan away from the cliff to focus on something entirely different.

==POV: Tholf==

It was fortunate that I wasn’t late for the meeting. They would have likely started without me, for all that I headed the temples in the poor section of town. Or maybe for exactly that reason.

I smiled and greeted some of my neighbors as I sat down, all fellow priests under my direction.

The central table was already filled, its half circle shape full even as the flat p...

SSD 3.10 - This Has Been a Test of the Emergency Broadcast System

I am finally... finally, back!

I always hope when I feel a depressive episode that it is not one like this one was. Namely far too long and entirely too frustrating.

I don't know how to describe depression to people who have never had it. And even for people who have had it, it is a little different for everyone.

Best way to describe it is just apathy. I wanted to have the drive to do things. Every night, depressed or not, I think about the plot of my novel as I go to sleep....

SSD 3.09 - Transfiguration

Still depressed, but trying my best. Got my covid vaccine yesterday, and since I had covid before it had been making me very tired and achy. Oh well.

Here is the chapter ~2250 words long.

SSD 3.08 - As a Matter of Pact

Hey all, finally getting a chapter out. Getting this one took much longer than I would have liked. I am weaving together elements from different chapters that i made before, and I hope it working well.

A major shout out to two patrons: ZCochraine!% and NA1. Both have commented a lot and it helped me to write and get this done. Thank you both very much.

Some maps

Just some poorly drawn maps of the local areas and of the Starlight Grotto.

If anyone has any talent with art, and I mean any talent. Obviously you can see I have approximately none when I am drawing, I would love to put your art up and feature you.

SSD 3.07 - Jack of All

This chapter took a while to write, mainly because I wrote from memory, so I had to go check if things actually worked like I remembered, since my character would be doing things and I need to know what the results would be.

Lots of science and experimenting going on here. Not that Caden knows enough to actually do most of what he wants in that way...

SSD 3.06 - Making Sacrifices

I was thinking about depression the other day and it occurred to me how strange it is. I am just so used to it, to living my life around it. However, it is truly strange that I just accept that at times i will be completely nonfunctional, and I just need to endure or learn to work through it a little when it is not quite so bad.

It reminds me of something I read somewhere about sleep. Sleep is normal, but describing what you are going to do sounds very strange. I am going to go fall unc...

This is how you pronounce Grergene: Grer gen neh - The middle sound for the g is the same sound as the french je, as in je ne sais quoi. The last sound has the same vowel sound as well.

And now you know what my world is actually called.

Quick Terminology Poll

In my first version instead of calling them subminds I called them shards, i.e. like parts of a crystal. One of you guys mentioned you liked my original term better. So I figured I would see what everyone said.

Feel free to suggest other terms for this or other things in the novel, too.

What term do you like best:

SSD 3.03 - The Vitre-uvian Man

This is a condensed version of the original chapters 3.03 and 3.04. A small section of 3.04, the bit where I do the math for dungeon growth, was put back in arc two. Other pieces will show up in a future chapter. I wanted to make sure I kept the focus on the action and new people, even if I had a lot of thoughts in this one.

I attached some very crappy art of Twisted Tip that I drew related to this chapter. I make no excuses, I know that I have no skill. Just meant to show the shape a little.

Anyway, just this chapter took me about 4 hours. Obviously I find perspectives other than Caden's more difficult. I still think it turned out well though.
