Smug NEET, Sad NEET

I'm finishing up work on the models. It's pretty cool how I've gotten it set up. I basically have a handful of different eyebrows, eyes, and mouths, and by turning layers on and off I can make different facial expressions. When I'm especially enjoying is how I've discovered these sort of emergent expressions. For instance, if I use the closed eyes with raised eyebrows and a happy mouth, I can make her smug!

These are the main 4 models for the first release. I'm also gonna be giving each pose a number of facial expressions. I want enough so that everything feels dynamic you know?

Kara's new gaming setup.

I love finding weird rooms/gaming setups. I saw this one on twitter and thought it would be funny to draw Kara in it, so I did!

Finally finished it! I decided to go with Mr. Eklund's hometown of Gävle for the background! The yule goat has not yet been immolated, so father and daughter can peacefully take photos in front of it.

Fun fact: Their jackets are Fjallraven Nuuk parkas. Mr. Eklund imports hiking gear for a living, so the Eklund household has easy access to high quality outdoor goods. Kara doesn't take much advantage of this, she's content in her nice warm bedroom!

Finished up the line art for this one. I'm currently coloring, although I'm at a bit of a loss as to what I'll do for a background. I thought of maybe just doing a photobash and applying the cutout filter, but that seems kinda lazy! I think I might do a little painting for it. We'll see in the next step.

Game Mockups

Hey folks, sorry for the lack of updates the past few days. I've been working on some development stuff, most of which isn't super interesting or post-able. It's also finals next week, and I have some exams to prep for. Just to keep in touch though I figure I'd drop a few of them here.

I'm currently looking for a new programmer, so I'm drafting up some more specific details for each aspect of the game. Here specifically it's the chat box.

'Tactical' gear Kara

I saw this picture on discord a while back. I've been trying to decipher what gear this person is wearing for weeks but the picture is so blurry. For fun, I started drawing Kara in the same gear, and I think I've figured out what all the parts are.

It's most likely a 1980s USMC pistol belt, with a cosplay STABO harness (ala MGS5), 5.11 boots, and of course, those striped anime panties.

Keeping consistent Kara models

A problem a discovered early on with making the Kara assets is keeping all of the proportions consistent. It's normally not much of an issue in comics, because the eye moves throughout the page regularly.

With a game however, a lot of the models are being swapped between in the exact same spot, so small differences in proportions are very noticeable. To remedy this, I'm making all the models on a lineup, and referencing the original Kara drawing for each one.

Been drawing Rally from Gunsmith Cats when I warm up in the morning. Decided to take a couple of them and make them into more finished drawings for twitter.

Koji is a really nice guy. (Finished Comic)

Koji is one of the few people Kara genuinely trusts and feels comfortable with. They grew up close and understand each other really well. He never judges her for being a little off, but he always tries to push her a little outside of her comfort zone. Koji's always been a social butterfly, and likes to introduce Kara to all his friends. Sometimes she's just not in the mood to socialize, but he still likes to keep her company.

Fun fact: Kara met Yuna through Koji.

Rally Vincent warmups

I ended up taking the whole weekend off to rest my hands, and so today I'm back at it again! I was drawing Rally from Gunsmith Cats to start off with and I ended up getting really carrier away with this one. Then again, most of my favorite pieces are actually just runaway warmups.

Kara in her gamer chair (construction)

I'm up late since I couldn't sleep, so I decided to draw some more Kara for the game. I used reference photos I look of myself sitting in my chair. I thought it might be fun to show you some of the really early stuff. Generally for more complex poses, especially ones that involve characters interacting with objects, I like to do some basic construction.

Working on backgrounds for the game right now. Part of it will take place with you sitting on the couch and Kara at her computer desk. At the moment I'm focused on the bones of the room, next step will be filling it with garbage!

I'm doing all these backgrounds in 4K. Slightly larger actually, that little window in the middle is 4K, but I'm extending the drawing past the margins a little so I have some space to work with.

Someone asked for a Kara in a dress of my choice, so I chose a wedding dress. I also got a few requests for Misato and couldn't resist. Lastly someone had good foresight because Kara does indeed make a great Power. Her teeth look super cute with fangs next to them.

Hoo boy! I've had an ultra busy weekend but I passed my midterms with flying colors.

I'll admit, my mind and body are a bit burnt out, so to relax I went back to this piece I've been chipping away at. Just this Venutian office lady thinking devilish thoughts.
