The Desert Sorcerer (Bonus Map)

I was bored today, so I made another map.

As it turns out, this is a lot more productive than video games and almost as fun as them, too. This is also me violating my statement that I wouldn't change my style, because I found a really fantastic paper texture online and decided to rip a book out of the page of the talented Neutral Party by using it. I wasn't happy with the old paper texture anyways!

This map comes in three color palettes: Desert, Desert Sun...

Many of my older maps use a different style that I'm no longer using! I got a drawing tablet recently, which let me dramatically boost the quality of my maps, so I figured I'd post this here for free, as an example of the quality of my future maps. The old ones are still available to use, of course, but honestly, they're pretty embarassing to me.

This is the same version as the ones I post on Reddit and Instagram, so it's at 50ppi and has a watermark. You can su...

Surprise! Pokemon Center

Look, I'm ahead of schedule for once in my life! A map on Tuesday!

The votes for the last map poll were 2 for Modern and 1 for Weird, and I figured I'd merge the two together and make something modern and weird. Obviously, this means another Pokemon map. This one's of a Pokemon Center! There's a lot of reasons to fight in the middle of a hospital, and none of them are good ones. Maybe you're just sneaking in, in which case you ...

Raw files for the new map! Hello, to any future Patrician subscriber who actually took the time to look through these files. At the time of writing, I only had four subscribers, and none of them were high enough in tier to access the raw files, so, I'm kinda posting these to a crowd of noone right now.

The Falcon (11x19) (Bonus map for Enthusiasts+ due to missing last week's variant)

Woo, I had fun making this. Drawing tablets make drawing actually quite a bit more fun than using a mouse. My work is a lot better, too.

This map is to make up for the Tendo Dojo not having a variant, so it's only available to the Enthusiast tier and above. It's a small interstellar ship with little in the way of luxuries and space tight enough to make a smuggler blush. It comes in three liveries, Red, Blue, and Planeptune.

Originally, I had reall...

Messing around with a tablet

Good morning (evening)! I'm mostly recovered from the last map, and I got my hands on a cheap drawing tablet, courtesy of a friend. It's a gigantic step up from a mouse. I made this as an experiment to test its capabilities.

One of the main things holding back my drawing is that most of the functionality of a real brush is unavailable to me. I had nothing but a mouse until now, so I had to make my art work within that limitation, which is very painful. Now that I have this, the only thi...

The Tendo Dojo (24x44)

Ranma 1/2 is one of the funniest anime I've ever watched. This map in particular arose from a handful of loose production sketches I had found online on an old Geocities website, detailing the layout of the dojo that most of the show was set in. There's actually an enormous number of ancient websites from 1999 full of Ranma-related content. It's a curious microcosm of the early internet.

The two color palette variants today are a nighttime version and a...

I've done it, I found my limit. This map is absolutely huge and going to be crammed full of details. This is the next map's preview, based on some sketches I've found online of the Tendo Dojo, which also taught me that the single best source for Ranma 1/2 information is ancient Geocities pages and websites from 1999. I've been picturing how to plan a game of Hitman around the place as I've built it. Maybe it could serve as the base of a wealthy target, or as a noble's home. Perhaps ninjas tra...

Style Change

I've been mulling over the idea of reworking my map's styles. I've never been really satisfied with it as it is and I'm not even sure my current style fulfills the goals I laid out in my description.

This problem, I think, is pretty evident in the Temple Archives map from last week. I wasn't satisfied with the map by the end of it, in particular the line-art and coloring. In particular:

  • The colors in the base map tended to b...

I love the Jedi Temple. It's one of my favorite places in Star Wars. The design is gorgeous and the subtle religious tones throughout the building's architecture are beyond words. It took me a while to decide which segment of the temple I wanted to turn into a map, and I settled with the most recognizable and interesting room I could think of - the Jedi Archives. This map's also an experimentation in glowy effects. The bookshelves glow! Isn't it gorgeous?

The map is 20 by 23 squ...

You are in this temple, but we do not grant you the rank of Padawan.

It was pretty easy deciding what sort of variant to make for a map like this. I kinda wanted to do a post-Order 66 version with scarred floors, broken and shattered shelving, and burn marks everywhere, but it would have meant that our fantasy players would have been left out of the fun. So, the variant this time is a low-tech vaguely modern library, and a sorcerer's library. The sorcerer's library in p...

The Temple Library (Dutchman)

Contains everything from the prior two tiers as well as assets and the premium print black and white version, as usual. Jedi not included, lightsabers sold separately!

This one had plenty of furniture usable for tokens. I wasn't going to crop every single bookshelf since most of them don't actually have completed linework under the walls, but fifty nearly identical bookshelf tokens probably wouldn't be very useful anyways. I'm particularly fond of the statues - it's a bit of an annoyanc...

Or, The Temple Archives, as my documents currently call it. This one's based off of the Jedi Temple's archives, and is intended to be a smaller wing of the building. Did you know there isn't a single clear diagram describing the structure of the archives? This means that it's impossible for me to make a perfect recreation of the archives, but also gives me a great excuse to pretend that this is a smaller wing off to the side of the main chambers.

The alternative map var...

Pokemon Arena (Free)

There just aren't enough Pokemon maps in the world! PTU players must be starved of options, having to use generic maps for battling arenas. Here's an outdoor arena possibly useful as an outdoors gym area, or as a friendly area to fight in. As a bonus, it can double as any generic sports field, too!

An interesting aside is that this is not technically the default version of this map - it's actually one of the bonus palettes.

This map is 36x26, and is downscaled to ...

Pokemon Arena

There just aren't enough Pokemon-themed maps in the world! There's plenty of generic forests and the like that you can use for wild encounters, but I don't feel like that's quite enough - this one's intended for formal competitions or as an outdoor gym setup. It's surrounded by a chain-link fence (or other fence, of your choosing) and has a set of bleachers to the north, giving it utility not just as a Pokemon arena but also as a generic sports field. There's also a set of ba...

It may not look like it, but the single #1 time-consuming element of this map was actually the water. It was a huge pain in the butt re-drawing the entire thing, and getting the waves to both resemble water and form a clear square grid structure.

Anyways, as is probably obvious, the alternative variant for this map is an underwater arena! I figured it may be well-suited for a water-type gym of some sort, but it can double as a generic pool for any relatively modern campaign. Same as the...

These map sizes are getting waaay out of hand. Anyways, the assets included with this map total five - unfortunately, this map didn't have a lot of props that made for good conversion material. Sorry! You do get two sakura trees, a trash can, and the bleachers, though, plus a toilet. It might come in handy!

These maps (and files) might be getting too big for my computer (and 7z archives) to handle. This one's like, 36x26, or something. I didn't really count.

Early Restructuring

I have had some second thoughts about my tier pricing since before I launched, and the basis of the comparatively high prices was that I felt that most artists have a habit of dramatically undervaluing their own work. The problem is that I personally don't feel right charging my current costs for what I'm doing, either. Does that mean I fall victim to the same phenomenon?

I also have to consider that maps are generally not sold for the prices I've put u...

The main office is not quite a perfect 1:1 recreation of Palpatine's office, but it's pretty damn close. Amongst the changes are that the chairs are now in a recessed area from which the chancellor's desk can overlook them, and the structure of t...

Here's the enthusiast map pack! The alternate version of the map is a converted spa/sauna pool club, with a variety of ponds to dip into. The escape turbolift has been converted into a secondary entrance, possibly for staff members. There's only one changing room due to the room structure, so it may be best if this weren't a mixed bathing setup!

I've been tagging these as sci-fi only due to the turbolift design, but in practice, it could easily be used for a modern setup too, with a bit...

I've got some bad(?) news! The file size is so big that I had to put this map in a .7z archive to fit it on Patreon! That means that you'll need to install 7zip, a free, open-source, incredibly useful zipping/unzipping program, to access it. I've put a link below for its official website. It's a tremendously useful program, though, and I feel like it should be on every computer anyways.

This one's file size is bloated, probably because there's an extra color scheme and a hex grid version. This was the map that made me realize that hex grids in buildings are really clunky and hard to work with.
