Behind the Scenes | Episode 2

Hello again dear Patrons! I hope you've had an excellent April, wherever you may be. I've spent most of it working on my next cover, which will hopefully come out in May. I've selected a song by the Red Hot Chilli Peppers, and I'll be joined by a woodwind player from Boston! I'll be sure to post it here first.

In the meantime, I hope you enjoy another look behind the scenes where I delve into four of my covers and the songs that inspired them. Thank you for your continued support, and I'll see you all again in May!

This absolutely made my day!

What some people don't know is that the Carmina Burana used for battle scenes is actually dirty latin poetry written for carousing. P.S. That's an amazing chorus you found for Paint it Black :)

Kermit the Hermit

Didn't the original come on 3.5 floppies?

Kermit the Hermit

Just for the wider group -there is a small bard core fan base in Guildford. This includes a contemporary Spanish dance group who put this together for Paint It Black https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/m2vwg85tg8h2znldrmav2/VIDEO-2023-12-11-14-32-51.mp4?rlkey=6x5fkqjfgp5bfr5tmdiq0eftc&dl=0

Gabriel Olearnik

True, I played Plague tale innocence a few years ago when it came out before covid.

William

You can find a 45 minute live orchestral version with large parts of the soundtrack on youtube.

Andy

Great! While playing the first game Innocence before to get the details and background of the story is certainly recommended, I think Requiem can be played alone.

Andy

I just started playing A Plague tale: Requiem today. Great soundtrack so far! Olivier Deriviere is a great composer.

William

The Requiem soundtrack was my album of the year 2023 on Spotify. Just saying. 😁

Andy

Keep it coming! I love also getting to be exposed to new music I didn't know about or reminded of stuff I had forgotten about!

J.P.F

I think I've got some of the olds discs lying around too! It was a simpler time. ^_^

Hildegard von Blingin'

Wow, thank you so much for saying that! It's fun making these since half the time I don't even realize where I'm pulling everything from until I think about it.

Hildegard von Blingin'

I'll have to have a look, thanks for the recommendation!

Hildegard von Blingin'

Amazing! I got to see Faun live once in Germany and it was a great experience. I haven't played A Plague Tale, but everyone tells me I must! One of these days I gotta get around to it.

Hildegard von Blingin'

"One more turn," yes, famous last words. :P I'll have to check out his other work too!

Hildegard von Blingin'

Nice! Also, John Tavener composed a really good album with Anonymous 4 that you might want to listen to.

William

Amazing insights into your inspirations to reimagine your covers.

Totoro (Hans)

as a brand new Patron thank you for sharing your creative process - I hadn't realised that there's so much that goes into each song!

Bianca Hyde

Thank you for sharing! ❤️

Onyx The Dane

Oooo yes, it's gonna be good! I'm secretly hoping it is Soul to Squeeze. Little bit slower tempo might lend itself well to translation.

J.P.F

Holy crap you are so goddam talented...every time we get one of these it just becomes more and more apparent how much you put into these and how incredibly skillful you are synthesizing musical elements into modern songs that are mind-blowing. I already have a deep appreciation for what you do but it's made all the more intense getting to hear about the connections you make. Brava!

J.P.F

You like Faun AND Civ? Yesss, lady. I've been playing Civ since it first released... actually I think might still have that CD-ROM somewhere... And very much looking forward to whichever RHCP song you've got cooking!

Cait Sinclair

Loved Faun since I discovered them about 20 years ago! By the way, have you ever played A Plague Tale? The medieval setting and the exceptionally great soundtrack, in particular of the second part "Requiem" should be right up your alley.

Andy

Thank you for the insight into your creative process! You've made me realise how much I can blame Civilization/Colonization series (one more turn since 1994...) for my love of older music. Poledouris is regular work focus music - it's hard to imagine some of those films without his scores.
