2021 is showing huge growth in all collectible classes. I dont think this will last more than 6-24 months. I believe we will see a leveling out and consolidation phase of prices across the board. The biggest issue is lack of supply due to collectors/investors gobbling everything up thats a "hard asset". (equities/real estate/collectibles/crypto) The lack of confidence in cash and inflation is being felt everywhere.
Magic The Gathering FLASHY STUFF - Mtg has a whole is going to have a very strong year. The unqiue product line up between Timespiral/MH2/D&D type products is going to bring new players and new eyeballs to the hobby. I expect strong pricing on demand on all new release products in 2021.
Magic The Gathering SEALED MARKET - MTG sealed has had the hardest move i have ever witnessed in the 20 years i have been doing this. The supply on the open the market is the lowest i ever witnessed in modern times. A combination of people opening boxes for "breaks" and drafting at home has removed many items. I dont believe this is a bubble nor do i see much of a correction or down tick coming. I believe we are in the middle of a "re-pricing" situation where the market realizes it was wrong and underpriced.
Magic The Gathering Reserved List - Similar to Sealed boxes RL cards are the "hot" thing again. I blame wotc for this particular flare up. The lack of confidence created fro mreprints and choices at the corporate level has led to money moving away from modern and standard. I do not see the "10%-20%" down tick coming this time around that we saw in 2018. This time is different and it was caused by bad choices and the great "Reset of 2020" due to EVERY SINGLE LARGE STORE SHUTTING DOWN AND LIQUIDATING THE OLD CARDS. This was the tipping point that changed everything. It can not be under stated. It will go down as the game changer in when history is written.
Magic The Gathering PRICES - I expect wotc to raise wholesale/distribution costs this year. This could be the year i have to finally raise standard box prices from 79.99 up $1. But at this time i still have no plans to change anything. I expect the higher costs from Carta Mundia will be felt in MTG/Poke/FaB and all CCG's. In addition. I firmly believe MH2 will be priced like a master set at $250+.
Pokemon - This continues to be a massive catalyst for the entire CCG world. The old prices have stabilized and retraced a little but nothing significant. I feel all pokemon boxes will continue to perform. I was wrong to stop carrying pokemon. I should have stayed the course and purchased all sets through Sun/moon and forward. But i screwed that up.
Pokemon Battle Styles - This is the new release coming in March. I am on the books to carry this new set and it will be offered to the patrons. I dont have any firm pricing or quantity at this time. It will be a test run to see how it goes.
Weiss Schwarz - I have been quietly building sealed box positions in this card game. I will eventually make a video sharing and discussing my opinion on this CCG. As i contiue to learn more about it, i am shocked at the secondary market for sealed boxes and long term values.
Flesh and Blood - By far the most surreal CCG in modern times and the biggest game to shake up the cardboard world in modern times. To this day, i am surprised everyday on how this has unfolded. I think the easy money has been made and i expect the market for cold foils and sealed 1st edition boxes to be stable at todays prices. I dont see a lot of upside or downside right now. This is consolidation phase, which is healthy. The fact cold foils are NOT dropping in prie and sealed boxes are overall holding steady is a big sign of health for the future.
Flesh and Blood UNLIMITED - I do expect LSS to eventually do a CRU unlimited reprint in 2021-2022. At least i recomended that. It all depends on Carta Mundia and the printer schedule/space. Until Carta Munda completes the expansion for more capacity Pokemon and FaB will be short printed for the forseeable future. I do believe Unlmited box prices will hold steady and not tank or spike higher. This is a good thing for the game. I do not think CRU unlimited reprint will have any impact on 1st edition boxes.
Flesh and Blood MONARCH - Probably going to be the craziest thing of 2021. With preorders selling out instantly online from any LGS at $200+ a box. I dont know how this is going to unfold. In fact, i have more anxiety/concern over it, than i do excitement right now. The nasty truth is that i expect Monarch 1st edition to sell out INSTANTLY worldwide. No expections...its it what it is. Simliar to pokemon in 1999 and Magic in 1993-1994. I expect Monarch unlimited is what most people will have access to 1 month after release and with waves of restocks coming every 30-45 days. The reality is the business model was not engineered for this type of demand and growth from all regions of the world. The Rudy kit will have between 1-3 boxes and will include promo materials. This is something James and I are still in discussion with once a month.
Flesh and Blood BLITZ DECKS - This item will also be offered around release date. No further info is available at this time.
Digimon - I am watching the launch of this new CCG. I like the game....but i do NOT trust the company behind the game. They have a bad history of screwing things up and not maanging a CCG for the long term. No product will be carried at this time.
Force of Will - The game continues to surprise me. While only a select group of patrons and follows love this game in 2021. The new products are really well made. It is a shame the game doesnt get the attention it deserves. I continue to keep a position in each new release after offering it to the patrons.
The Real World - In the current political environment, i expect multiple rounds of government stimulus. The issue in right now is many people need the stimulus money and are in rough situations, but whenever you "Helicopter" money across an entire country, many people get checks and do not need it. This causes money to pour into all asset classes. This fuels inflation and invertly hurts the lower income longer term by forcing them to pay more for everyday goods/materials. It is a nasty double edge swords. It is what it is.
I do believe we will see some serious turmoil in the world in the next 1-2 years. Expect equity market swings and the collectable world will cool off. Opportunity is everywhere for people paying attention.
2020 was truely a "reset" and a tipping point. I dont know what terminology to use. It caused the largest shift in resources i have ever seen between people in the USA. 2020 makes 2008 look like childs play.
I truely believe we are in a transitional time in society with social media and culture pulling in different directions.
I do believe the "DIGITAL" era of owning virtual apps/cards/items/songs etc...is going to fuel the cardboard world and the feeling of actually OWNING THE ITEM IN REAL LIFE.
I have researched and contacted people all over the country, i believe the old sealed product supply is far lower than the public thinks. Im going to prove it.
I FIRMLY believe the decisions made by the largest dealers in the country to walk away from all Reserved list / High end MTG CARDS in 2020 due to fear and close the buylist is the biggest event that is not talked about in Magic the Gathering history. It changed the direction of everything forever.

I been wanting to collect full sets of the most recent Pokemon sets and, well, with the current prices, it sounds very foolish to entertain. Reserve List is also a mess as well but nowhere near as bad as Pokemon. I got a few RL cards but definitely a very small position. I do wonder how much growth they do have over the short term before the market starts correcting them. I am definitely taking a much bigger interest in both the Extended Art cards and the Collector Boosters, especially Zendikar Rising and Ikoria. I do think the majority of the Extended Art has a lot of room to grow long-term. I do need to start building sets of them before they get too high. The Great Henge is already pushing $80 for non-foil Extended Art and I am sure more is set to come. Thank you Rudy for your advice though. This may be the only thing I can look forward to since I am in no position to buy product but it is worth paying the monthly fee for.

Might be able to get the printing company to pump out a lot more product quicker and still give players/investors a reason to keep sealed product, and excitement to open any box. I dunno, stream of thought kinda thing. Maybe?

I believe anything under $110 delivered is a "good price." I believe Dominaria will go up and hell it may be worth $500 a box in 5-10 years but the money % in my mind is in thing like WOS and Throne of Eldraine. This is just my opinion I do hold a case of WOS and TOE and I don't intend to buy any more.

2021-01-25 07:25:15 +0000 UTCI personally got into Weiss and from what I can tell due to the licensed anime material and them using signed stamped cards as chase cards from artists or actors it has a collector market not only with players but fans of the source material from japan. Also not having reprints of their product has helped after the first printng. If you were to carry or be willing to sell any Weiss Rudy I would be interested since ive fallen out of playing magic currently. Ive kept my stuff and product but playing hasnt been it for me right now.

Side note, I’m huge into Pokémon, and while Battle Styles is the set coming out in March ( it has had some new reveals of secret rare cards and has a new game mechanic that I think will make the set popular ) Shining Fates is the HYPED set releasing 2/19 that has everyone nuts. IF you can get any allocation of that, especially Elite Trainer Boxes and Tins, you should buy everything you’re allowed To buy. It’s going to be a fantastic, and highly collectible set, and sealed product will be very sought after in years to come. Happy to be here man, I’ve learned tons from you sir. Also, Force of Will is gorgeous and I want to open some and I’m really jonesing to play FaB

Hopefully my additional pre-orders of Monarch will go through without a hitch. As a Pokemon collector, keep an eye out on Shining Fates, Rudy. The ETBs for the upcoming set are going to be insane. Probably even beyond what Hidden Fates achieved.
