OP Sister Chapter 522: The Slumbering Demon King

-----

“A portal?” Jack wondered. “Wait, this place is…?!” His eyes widened as he stepped through. “Right! I remember now, this is the place where you keep your demons sealed, right? An insane skill you obtained somehow…”

“Yep, that very same,” Anna nodded. “I’ve been refurbishing it with items I’ve found and gifts from the Constellations.”

As everyone entered her Purgatory Realm, they looked around in amazement, except for Baihe, who was already familiar with the place.

“Ugh, I can feel a lot of demonic energy in here… it stinks,” Henrietta muttered. “I don’t know if this is better than outside, Anna… And it looks like a wasteland too.”

“Calm down, sister-in-law, it’s not like this everywhere,” Anna said. “Come with me, look over there.”

Anna pointed into the distance as she walked forward. Everyone saw the “Sanctuary” within the “Purgatory,” a beautiful land of vibrant greenery, a forest perpetually in autumn, and lush green mountains capped with snow.

This expanse stretched for hundreds of kilometers, filled with abundant Heavenly Ki that flowed freely, gradually spreading greenery through the deadly Wasteland. The growth was neither too fast nor excessive, maintaining a delicate balance between the two “biomes.”

“Wow, what is this place? You have such a beautiful area in your Purgatory Realm? Isn’t this where you imprison demons? Wait, where are the demons at?” Henrietta wondered, as she and the others stepped into the area, exploring the forest.

“They aren’t here. They don’t like the greenery much, so they’ve created a small settlement farther away,” Anna explained. “There are some refugees I’ve taken in.”

“Wait, what?” Jack asked. “What did you do? I thought you just sealed Demons and used them, but this… why go so far? Wait, where did you find them?”

“Hahah, calm down a bit,” Anna sighed. “Some were demonic beasts we fought. It turns out they were forcibly transformed into those forms… Some I defeated were ‘healed’ back to their original demon selves, and with nowhere else to go, I allowed them to stay here until I find another solution.”

“That’s… isn’t that too much responsibility?” Baihe asked.

“Not at all. The demons I sealed earlier manage everything. I don’t need to worry about anything, not even food,” Anna explained. “They farm and hunt their own food here. Demonic critters roam the land occasionally, and they’re also growing vegetables and fruits native to Hell. This Purgatory Realm is, to a small extent, a recreation of their homeland.”

“Hmm, that’s kind of crazy when you think about it,” Kevin said. “I guess you do you, Anna… Can’t really say anything to make you change your mind either way.”

“Nope, you can’t~” Anna smiled proudly. “The future awaiting us may be even crazier and more dangerous. The more allies we have, the better. Right, brother?”

“I… uh, I guess,” Jack sighed. “But if they cause any trouble, just tell me, okay?”

“Yeah, sure, don’t worry,” Anna nodded. “Anyway…”

“Hey, who’s that big guy? Is that a robot? Wow!” Annabelle’s voice echoed as Anna panicked, seeing the girl running toward a massive humanoid machine-like creature.

It had a large bird-like head and metallic wings. It remained seated in the same spot where Anna had last seen it. She had assumed it had moved elsewhere, but it had stayed there the entire time.

Like a machine conserving energy until needed for something significant, Anna had largely forgotten about it, despite it being a dangerous Demon King she had miraculously tamed—an empty husk without a soul, formed from the body of her adoptive brother from another world, Song Weisheng.

“T-That’s…! Annabelle, don’t touch that thing!” Anna shouted, rushing toward her friend. “It might be dangerous, it’s…!”

“What? It’s not dangerous!” Annabelle said, sitting on the resting Demon King. Its eyes remained dark. “Is it some sort of artifact? What is it?”

“An abandoned golem from one of the demons…” Anna lied. “Don’t touch it. It might activate and attack you.”

“Didn’t you say this place was safe?” Hilda asked, raising an eyebrow.

“I mean, almost safe, okay? Safer than outside, for sure,” Anna sighed. “Anyway, Annabelle, please…”

“O-Okay, sorry…” Annabelle understood Anna’s seriousness, quickly returning to her side and apologizing. “Are you mad?”

“I’m not, just a little worried, don’t worry,” Anna smiled, patting her head. “Anyway, wanna see something awesome? Come with me.”

Anna swiftly led her friends and brother toward the golden pagoda, casting one last glance at the slumbering Demon King.

She had felt a twinge of fear, but the sleeping giant seemed harmless unless commanded otherwise, bound by its contract.

So now, without purpose, it slumbered…

She wondered what the Demon King was dreaming about.

Perhaps it dreamed of one day becoming “whole” again by reuniting with Song.

Or perhaps it dreamed of being a bird, soaring freely in the skies.

Or maybe, as a machine, it didn’t dream at all.

Whatever the case, she felt relieved it was “taking it easy” and sleeping.

“Sleep well for now. We’ll get to do some work later, big guy. I want you to help me out outside with the rest of the demons.”

She turned to the golden pagoda. Her friends and brother were visibly surprised by what they saw. Baihe alone remained unfazed, having already explored the entire place.

“What’s this place?” Jack wondered. “Did you build this? Nah, there’s no way…”

“Haha, yeah, you know me well, brother,” Anna laughed. “I was gifted this by a Constellation named Heavenly Empress… rings any bells?”

“What? Hmm, not really,” Jack said. “But why would she do that?”
