Help me choose a movie to watch next!

Help me choose a movie to watch next! Okay the poll options might seem a little weird, but here are the 2025 Oscar Best Picture nominees PLUS One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest and Rain Man (I wanted to give them another chance since they got a lot of votes on the last Oscar poll).

I've already watched Dune Part 2 and Wicked, so they are not on this poll. I'm also not including A Complete Unknown and Emilia Perez because both movies are music based, so it will be hard to cut around those for YT copyright. I plan on checking those out on my own!

Voted Cuckoo's Nest and The Substance. I still haven't seen The Substance. And Cuckoo's Nest is one of my all-time favorites. Looks like Rain Man is winning, and that one's pretty good too.

Other Golden Globes that I would swap are Barbie & Wicked: Part I's Best Cinematic and Box Office Achievement Golden Globes and I would give them to Oppenheimer & Twisters, which I feel are more deserving of that award.

Alex Tan

Well, that's the one that freaked her out on him in the first place, Doug.

Byrd N. Hand

Don’t forget The Shining too. 🙂

Doug

I swear everyone always forgets Five Easy Pieces when it comes to Nicholson. Haha...one of his most understated, emotionally complex performances.

Jeff I.

Id like Addie to watch some Nicholson movies that he's not a villain. Cuckoo's nest, Chinatown, Terms of Endearment, Easy Rider

MrAustincummings

Agreed. And if I could take away its Golden Globe for Best Motion Picture - Musical or Comedy and switch it with another nominee, then it would be Challengers (2024).

Alex Tan

After "The Departed," "Batman," and "A Few Good Men," I think she may be getting used to him now. 🤔

Byrd N. Hand

Yeah, the few clips I've seen from "Emilia Pérez" were incredibly cringe-inducing. 😬 Some people are even calling it the worst Best Picture nominee ever.

Byrd N. Hand

Still with cuckoo's nest, curious about The Brutalist, Adrien Brody gives his all in everything he's in, so that second for me, nice manoeuvres

Adrian Towers

I would vote for One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest just to see Addie crap her britches again at Jack Nicholson.

Julian San

Gosh the only one I cared about was Complete Unknown but here we are

Andre Agog

I wanted to vote for The Substance because it'd be nice to have a horror movie during a non-October month. But I couldn't do it because hoo boy did I think that movie was a stinker! heh

Luis Fernandez

I haven't seen The Substance yet so no comment on that one either way. 🤷‍♂️ Personally one of my favorite Academy Award winning movies from this year though was Flow which won Best Animated Picture but wasn't nominated for Best Picture. (It's very rare for an animated movie to be nominated for Best Picture, and none of the ones that have been nominated have won it.) I can 100% guarantee Flow is up Addie's alley though! Hopefully she'll watch it eventually. 🙂

Doug

I also question how well Barbie (2023), Wicked: Part I (2024) and the upcoming Wicked: For Good (2025) will hold up.

Alex Tan

That's EXACTLY what I've been saying, especially when Camilla watched it.

Alex Tan

I know it's still very early right now, but as it stands, that would mean Addie would be watching 'The Substance'. As you probably know, Addie is very NOT a fan of the horror genre. Personally, I think Addie should be rewarded/punished for being so brave/foolish to keep 'The Substance' on the list. 🤭 I can just hear it now...."Well, that was NOT FOR ME!" 🤣 Oh dear Addie, you're already "substantial" enough without 'The Substance'! 💖

One Flew over the Cuckoos Nest is a must see.

Patrick Anderson

Got to be Rain Man. Something for Phill please 🙏 😘🤪🥰 x

PHILLIP CORNISH

Rain Man is an excellent movie. A must see.

Tom W.

I figured rain man and cuckoo would run away with it. I would like to tip people on Conclave though. An interesting and entertaining drama/thriller in an original and intriguing setting.

Pickupthepieces76

I might see "Anora" eventually, but I'd recommend one of Sean Baker's previous films, "The Florida Project," first. I frankly question how well most of these titles will hold up 30-50 years down the road compared to "Rain Man" and "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest." 🤔

Byrd N. Hand

One Flew and Rain Man!

Randolph Tirazona

I haven't seen most of the 2024 Best Picture nominees so it'll be interesting to see which of them do the best in the poll. 🙂 I did see Conclave though and it's good. Between Rain Man and One Flew over the Cuckoo's Nest I like Rain Man better, but they're also both good films. Personally my suggestion here is probably watch the winner between Rain Man and Cuckoo's Nest and also whichever 2024 movie does the the best in that group. That way you get kind of nice mix of old and new movies coming up. 👍 Regardless, though, from what I can tell I'm pretty sure there are no bad movies in this poll so whatever wins will be worth a watch.

Doug

Happy Thursday, Addie. All are good choices but my votes belong to One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest (1975), Rain Man (1988) and The Brutalist (2024). BTW, you don't have to watch Emilia Pérez (2024) for the channel because I've heard A LOT of bad things about that movie.

Alex Tan

Happy Thursday, Addie! 😊 Another great weekly poll for this week. I ended up voting for "Rain Man" with One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest" as my second choice. Have a great day today! 😊

Randee Carreno

One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest is required viewing.
