This entry in the original trilogy has the only change from the original release that I cannot stand. Don't get me wrong, I like some of them better than others, and the new song by Jabba's palace band is pretty cheesy. But there's only one that genuinely makes it harder to watch the movie. When Vader is watching the Emperor kill his son, and finally chooses to save him, in the original release he didn't say "Noooo!". He was completely silent. And it made the scene so much more powerful. Even with that expressionless helmet, you could see Vader's turmoil as he looked between Luke and the Emperor. When he finally moves to attack the Emperor, it comes without any warning, and the moment works much better.

Harrison Ford has said in numerous interviews that he had wanted Han to die at the end of ESB because he was tired of being in the movies, but George Lucas wouldn’t let it happen, so he had to come back for ROTJ. Carrie Fisher has said that when she was wearing the famous metal bikini, that it wasn’t form-fitting, and when the puppeteers were operating Jabba, they could see “everything”.

:) great reaction, Addie! I'm very glad you were emotional to the finale, because it IS a very emotional finale. Watching Anakin finally come back to the light side, realizing he had to save his son, hits all the buttons for me. And seeing him as a force ghost in the end with Obi-Wan and Yoda really means something when you've experienced the whole story. I'm excited to see your reactions to the prequel trilogy. I'm sure you'll enjoy them. They fill in a LOT of information about the galaxy and the characters, and while they are definitely a different kind of adventure trilogy, I think you'll appreciate the story and how it all comes together. May the force be with you, Addie ... always.

The Inedible Mattman!

Granted, Luke and Leia being twin siblings is probably the most well-known retcon Lucas made to the series; Luke was always going to have a sister, but, thanks largely to Lucas getting burned out on the series by the time he started prepping this movie, he chose to hyper-condense most of the story he still had in mind into just this movie, and shifted the sister role onto Leia. Of course, I still think it's far more shocking ("I am your father"-level, dare I say) to first learn she and Luke were twins at the end of ROTS; its presentation always came off as sort of an afterthought to me in this movie -- I mean, Luke figures it out on his own, Obi-Wan confirms it, and then we cut to a whole other scene. 🤷‍♂️

“They’ve kissed so many times!” Lol I wanted to make an Alabama joke so bad when they kissed in Empire Strikes Back. But didn’t since I didn’t want to spoil anything. It’s funny watching reactors find out especially if they shipped Luke and Leia.

I'm still gonna die on the hill that this movie - especially the final act - is even more powerful if you've already seen Eps. I-V (thus having seen Anakin/Vader's full journey) first. But what's done is done. I'm sure you'll enjoy the prequels (especially if you enjoyed the "Hobbit" movies)... though it's a bit masochistic to end the saga on Episode III (well, not as masochistic as continuing on into the Disney-era stuff... 😏).

I feel as though she - and most people - would enjoy them more if she(/they) didn't already know where they were going. 🤔 Also, the prequels would've been nearly on par with this trilogy with a more deft screenwriter and a more actor-friendly co-director on board. There was no saving the Disney stuff once they threw out any and all of Lucas' ideas and refused any of his input despite him creating the universe in the first place...

Loved your reaction. Probably my fav reaction of the three. That "Holy Sh*t" moment was truly hilarious. :) Well, it's all downhill from here, but enjoy the prequels as much as you can. :)

Luke knew what he was doing from the beginning to redeem his father back to the light. Just because someone stumbles and loses their way, doesn’t mean they’re lost forever. The only one far beyond saving is the Emperor himself. Vader may be fallen hero but the Emperor is the devil.
