Mr. Diabaté is such an interesting character. The opportunist is usually portrayed as truly selfish, malicious, and domineering. But this narcissist and hedonist is pure peace and love. He's incredibly respectful, empathetic, and kind to Carol. He asks her permission to keep Zosia with him. He asks very politely (he doesn't demand): "I asked for lobster." Meanwhile, Carol, the savior of humanity, comes across as a capricious and sulky child (she's so perfect in this role; even her facial features, her nose, her mouth, evoke the face of a disgruntled child). I'm fascinated by the quality of the writing, which more than makes the slow pace of these first episodes bearable. It's like BB and BCS: psychologically incredibly deep and brilliant. The person who's right is unpleasant (like Chuck and maybe Skyler), and the person who's wrong is sympathetic (like Saul and maybe Walt). This is so good. I can't get enough of Vince Gilligan!
