Lol nah we didn’t. We basically said Power scores are not the same as The Wire scores. Sometime you have to accept what you’re watching and score it solely based off that, or else every show we watch outside of The Wire and Sopranos would be getting 6s and below lol

that's funny bc i think power is mid and it's crazy that ppl be comparing it to the wire. out of pocket even lmao. (not saying y'all did that, i don't watch those reactions.

No one is saying it's not great. If you have to rate greatness there's still a hierarchy. This season is still fantastic but it's not as strong as the other 4 for various reasons.

I think a key difference with Season 4 is they actually knew they were going to get the last season fairly early on, whereas in previous seasons they were usually in danger of getting cancelled. That's probably why they felt OK leaving more stuff open going into Season 5.
Whatever my issues are with this season, I don't think you guys will be feeling like there was a lack of closure. They wrapped it up pretty damn well under the circumstances.

This is the worst season. The problem imo is that HBO only gave them 10 episodes and it feels a bit rushed in how they end some of the plot points. But overall it still wraps up the series in a satisfying way.

Season 4 had to do why I became a teacher. The Wire has made a great impact on society, for the positive.

I think this season does a good job overall of closing out a show as complex and multi-faceted as The Wire. Regarding only the 10-episode length, I think you can chill on that, it's actually plenty of time if you think about it -- yes, they do need to introduce the journalism/storytelling theme of the season, but everything else has already been poured over multiple times, some for four entire seasons, so it doesn't take much time to come back to shit like that and develop it to a reasonable closure (and remember the cycles repeating, in a sense there even isn't any closure in life and society for many of these elements, they just repeat like Formal said -- same characters in different settings, and new versions taking over).
Also, if it makes you feel better, the last episode (as is almost the norm now in TV for season finales and series finales) is over 90 minutes long, so you basically get like a bonus half episode at the end LOL. So relax, it will finalize shit fine and in very interesting ways...in my opinion in perhaps the only way it can be done with the themes and narrative structure of the show...but you'll form your own impressions of that of course. But whatever you come out with, I really doubt you will think it's bad or something. Anyway, onwards to more enjoyment of the last of the great The Wire, Season 5!

I do think this season is my least fav. But there is still great and legendary moments. Ya’ll haven’t gotten to the point of no return yet, which is probably going to be next episode. That’s when I think people get frustrated with it. But still the writing is amazing. Characters are still fun to watch. And yeah it all does lead to a great ending.

Gus is 1 of my favorite Characters in
ALL of THE WIRE.
Integrity in this Show goes a long way in my book and they establish in this first episode that Gus was a person with GREAT integrity.

It's a call back to Season 1 and Season 3 when Avon was hiring muscle on retainer to hunt Omar (in Season 1) and go to war vs Marlo (in Season 3)

Did y'all notice that was Sorvino from Season 1 in the concrete park with Marlo, Snoop and O-Dog?
He looks different without his long dreds but that's definitely Sorvino who took that
"Arm and Hammer charge" when Orlando got Executed for snitching on B and B when Kima got shot.
It's crazy that Sorvino (former Barksdale Enforcer) and Slim (former Barksdale Enforcer) are working for Marlo and Joe respectfully by the time Season 5 came.

I'm one of those people that shits on Season 5, lol. HBO did them dirty with budget cuts and only ten episodes for the final season, just like Boardwalk Empire, and some of the plot I just do not mess with, but there's a still a lot of really good episodes and great moments. It is just more disappointment than anything else I think, because Season 3 and 4 are probably my two favorite seasons of TV ever, so expectations were crazy high. I think they do a good job of wrapping up most of the stories, so I'll see what y'all think, lol.

Yeah when I realized in real life how much cops rely on OT to make ends meet is crazy. Their salaries are pretty unlivable without OT. And it has a major trickle down effect on policing the community like you said. It's sad actually.

Those whole police overtime thing just blows my mind to begin with. If you can't staff police (understandable - there might not be enough people who want the job) then they should be on a weekly salary instead of being paid hourly. Because when you use overtime as an incentive (for stats you are making up and then juking in the first place) all you are doing is getting your employees comfortable enough on the overtime that they think it's their regular salary. All series (and in real life) all you ever hear about is OT this, OT that and all it does is cause police to look for problems that aren't there and not stopping bigger issue problems. Not to mention that most of the pissed off officers in that room probably beat the shit out of a few people today because they can.

This season gets way more shit than it deserves and it only gets shit because it's built up such insanely high expectations thus far. Some of my favourite moments and lines happen in this season, and the most important thing is it lands the ending *perfectly* - even if how it gets there is regarded as being a little shaky. Getting that ending down is the most important thing, imo.

It’s probably the weakest overall. That said it contains some all time great individual moments, and I remember watching one episode after it aired and debating with my friends right afterwards if it was the best episode of the series.

the subject matter, the media, is not why this season is rated low lmao. most people have issues with certain plot points. i have grown to appreciate this season because regardless it has a lot to offer, and what's bad by the wire standards still blows many shows out of the water. but anyways you'll form your own opinion when the time comes.
