The only way to improve the usefulness of Savage Attacker as written is to hold off on using it until the first time you hit with the highest damage weapon you plan to attack with. The damage die and the fact that you hit are the only pieces of information you have for this decision.

David Knott

We also don't know the full rules for crafting magic items in the new DMG. While the discount granted by the Crafter feat does not apply to buying magic items, surely it would apply to buying the (rather expensive) materials needed to make them? That benefit would kick in as the usefulness of fast crafting fades away.

David Knott

I guess by the video that the Fast Crafting table doesn't include stuff from alchemist supplies like alchemist fire or vials of acid. I think items like those could improve the value of the feat. I would even include in the options herbalist kit for potions of healing, although I don't know if that would be too much for an origin feat.

TheBakerdoc

That is a tenuous definition. With how loose my table is regarding these things, I doubt my Dm would define it the same way.

Tony Glass

In general, would adding an ASI to the origin feats make them viable as general feats?

Bryan

one thing is clear, pre-rolling initiative isn't a viable thing to speed up the transition into the combat board game anymore. I wonder if one or more players picking alert will significantly slow down combat before it has even begun in practice, or whether most of the time it won't matter. I guess it will depend a lot on your table.

"When you roll" not "After you roll"

This is my take for an improved version of the Crafter feat: You are adept at crafting things and bargaining with merchants, granting you the following benefits: Tool Proficiency. You gain Tool Proficiency with Tinker's Tools and three other Artisan’s Tools of your choice. Artisan's Magic. You known the mending cantrip and the artificer's crawling disk spell (reflavored Tenser's floating disk, in the form of a crawling clockwork). Discount. You gain Advantage on Charisma (Persuasion) checks made to negotiate prices or barter with merchants whenever you buy nonmagical or magical items. On a success, you can receive a 20-30 percent discount on it. Fast Crafting. When you finish a Long Rest, you can craft one piece of gear from the Fast Crafting table, provided you have the Artisan's Tools associated with that item and have proficiency with those tools. The item lasts until you finish another Long Rest, at which point the item falls apart.

Moozure (Ben Morrier)

Why do you say you can't use Lucky after the roll is made? It doesn't specifically say you can wait to see the roll, but it also doesn't say you can't. You can just give yourself advantage. So you roll, see it's a low roll, and say "I'm going to give myself advantage" and use a luck point. Unless there's another rule I don't know about.

Tony Glass

Re: Savage Attacker. I don't understand what you mean by the need to set it up, and that a reroll would be better. You're rolling the damage twice when you hit and choosing the best result. Isn't that the equivalent of a reroll? Edit: nevermind, got it. You don't know what you'll be rolling before deciding to roll twice, so you might get to choose between two good rolls, while a crappy damage you got on the same turn, you didn't roll twice because you already used the ability on the good roll or were saving it for the next attack. A reroll would be indeed much better.

Moozure (Ben Morrier)

just wondering.... spell components are not magical, so wouldn't Crafter's Discount mean you will get those 500 gp diamonds for only 400? As well as any of the other expensive odd items?

I think I found a group for which the Musician feat would be useless. They are an entire party of humans who never take short rests.

David Knott

That would have been too powerful. Leaving it as is was probably the best call. I wouldn't completely rule out taking it as a 4th level feat with no ability score increase.

David Knott

Well in a group of Humans the Musician Feat seems weaker than Lucky for me. It obviously depends on how many short rests you make a day. And of course on how often do you get heroic inspiration from your DM. In my groups, the DMs often give out Inspiration for cool roleplay and stuff. So this makes the Musician Feat still good but not so amazing anymore.

Bolduin

That's a good point. And hiding now requires you to get cover or break line of sight, so another reliable source of advantage is valuable. I can't think of any other mechanics where having advantage gets or guarantees you some further benefit, but if so, it might be good for that too.

Jason G. Rheins

Lucky can be really good still for Rogues to trigger Sneak Attack if they don't want to sacrifice their movement.

Troy Robinson

In my current game, my character has Musician and a couple of others have Alert. Those two feats are really, really good. Combine Musician with Humans getting Heroic Inspiration at the end of a Long Rest and it's even better. It will be difficult to not take those feats on any build.

Jeramie Brown

I'm floored by how much better musician is than anything else, especially lucky (which you, the player have to be pretty lucky to benefit much from)!

Move over Mr Beast

Treantmonk's Temple

100,000 k subscribers is 100 million, you deserve that many but I think it is a bit ambitious :-P

Carl Meade

I was so hoping for eldritch adept making it to the phb/origin feats
