I think it depends on what levels you think you'll go to. Level 11+ the scaling extra attack of fighter is hard to give up, but pre level 11, you can easily get away with a 3 level AA dip, in which case I think it would be a strong addition to Ranger 5 or Bard (Valor/Swords) 6

Absolutely. 😄 I think doing PB/rest would fine, but increasing uses via a class feature is probably best, I guess. Otherwise, we'd probably end up with some crazy build that throws down 6 Grasping Arrows per rest as an aside to other strong capabilities.

Are we likely to get an Optimized build at some point, or do you think straight Fighter is the way to go?

Lol, yeah, I immediately thought PB/LR would be a step in the wrong direction!

Do you think "a number of uses equal to your Proficiency Bonus" per rest would be fair? I've never had an Arcane Archer in any game, and don't expect that to change. I'm just wondering if PB per rest might be one change we see in 5.5E. EDIT: Removed "long rest" and replaced with "rest". It was a typo that would actually further weaken the subclass.
