Played my first Monk when AD&D came out (Oriental Adventures book.). Playing an Open Hand Mountain Dwarf since I started 5e for RP/thematic reasons. This is horrible. Pa-thet-ic. Why bother? Seriously, maybe a Mercy Monk Far Traveler PC for a themed campaign but otherwise Monks do not exist for me in 5e.

My guess is that there is some gameplay assumption by designers that there is a short rest after every two combats (or similar) so monks past level 10 or something are never out of ki. Therefore, make everything cost ki to prevent stunning strike from being used every round. Or something. Per Complicated Stares, someone somewhere thinks stunning strike is VERY powerful.
2021-10-17 12:34:07 +0000 UTCI wonder how this compares to a four elements monk wearing the Dragonhide belt published in the same book. With both wearing the belt and the 4e being able to cast one more spell with higher save DC I’m thinking this is the worst subclass yet. Also, what exactly does this subclass give a Gem Dragonborn? Its in the same book!
