Nets in D&D

Be honest, how many of us avoid using nets because the rules for them are so weird?

I think there's a weird skip or something around 2:20-2:22? Right before "except there is more....", that transition doesn't make sense to me.

There's certainly other ways to restrain, though Nets can do it right from level 1, which is unique, they also don't use a spell slot or a wild shape use. If they're destroyed, you are out one gold piece.

Chris, Nice job - your thoroughness continues to impress. I can’t wait to see what the table says, especially Joe, the guy with the net build. (Maybe I’ll get them to become a Patrons as well!) At the end however I was left thinking: Restrained condition is got some good effects. What are better ways or other options than a net to get it…. Anyway this has added to having fun, thanks!

I have been playing with a fighter 1/warlock 2/ Arcane Trickster X net + hand crossbow build. I started as a variant human with crossbow expert and archery fighting style. I’ve had a lot of fun throwing the net as an action and then follow up with sneak attack on the bonus action with the crossbow. The restrained condition has been great for my allies and on the big bads I throw on hex first as a bonus action to give the disadvantage on strength checks.
