El Camino: A Breaking Bad Movie (runtime 2:02:18) - Patreon Version

Morning folks!
We finished Breaking Bad, so it only made sense to watch El Camino next... and boy are we glad we did. It's absolutely the resolution we were both missing at the end of the series. Thank you so much to everyone who recommended we watch it!

Unfortunately I believe Plemons was in the middle of another role which required him to maintain a heavier build. I agree it does take you out of it a bit because he does look so noticeably different, but things can never be perfect, sadly. You haven't even touched on Bryan's bald cap ahaha

I'm sooo excited to see more of Mike in Better Call Saul!!

I totally missed/forgot about the whole blackmail aspect. I think on a rewatch we'd catch on to a lot more! And I'm glad you like Better Caul Saul too, makes me excited to watch it with you!

Todd is COMPLETE psychopath! So much so that when he always talks about “Uncle Jack” it makes me feel relieved in a sense that I don’t have l mm an Uncle named Jack! Crazy thing to think, but I credit it to Jesse Plemons (Todd) acting performance.

This was such a good end to a fantastic series. Todd still confuses me. It is like Jordan said, it's like he is trying to act how he "should" as a normal human. I totally get the vacuum guy. Rules are rules for everyone. You let one thing slide and then, especially in his world, you leave yourself open to getting screwed by someone else if word gets around. Thanks guys!

I don't think the movie was so great imo....I'm not saying it shouldn't have been made. It does give some deeper insight into the relationship of the characters...it just wasn't for me. I did watch it again right now with both of you, and I'm still convinced it was just meh. What also got under my skin is that Jesse Plemons was too FAT when they filmed it. He should have lost the weight to at least make the time frame of the story accurate. So before the die hards roast me, understand this is my opinion. In closing, I can't wait for you both to watch Better Call Saul, because for me, That series is better than Breaking Bad....but not by much. BCS has some great new characters with serious great acting performances. The back stories are awesome, and Mike kills it with his acting in this one.

So many people seem to gloss over the blackmail at the start of the series

The scene between Walt & Jesse was set just after their escapade in the desert in 4 Days Out (S2E9). Hence why Walt was coughing so much & Jesse was on about hydrating & electrolytes 🤣 Walt was feeling particularly sentimental as at the time he was of the opinion he had only days left to live. Then afterwards he gets his remission news. So when he said "you didn't have to wait your whole life to do something really special" he did literally mean his whole life. I think both Walt & Jesse get their deserved endings here. Walt was destined to die, and so he did. Jesse, who was blackmailed into being involved from episode 1, and for whom it only gets worse & worse until he's held as a slave in a dungeon... He finally gets his freedom. Jesse Plemons really added to the strangeness of Todd in this movie. We get a taste of it in the episodes he's in in Breaking Bad, but almost everything he does/says in this is bizarre. The wildest thing is putting the belt straight back on after taking off the neck of the lady he strangled to death with it... That's pure sociopathy. Really looking forward to Better Call Saul! You're only halfway through this incredible journey :D Better Call Saul is perhaps even my preferred of the two shows!

Robert Forster (the disappearer) died the same day this movie came out. And there's a pretty cool moment in the commentary when creator Vince Gilligan finds out that Forster actually got to see the movie hours before he died: https://www.youtube.com/shorts/CgZKIA6tRUY
