Action Movie: Decade Poll

Happy Tuesday everyone!
Last week's poll winner was True Detective: season 1! We're both super excited to see what this new-to-us series is all about!

For this week we're wondering what decade you're all most interested in for action movies! Also feel free to suggest some of your favourite action movies in the comments so we have some to pick from. Can't wait to see what wins ❤️

Comments

I agree that it's better if you start prior to CGI and then move forward but I don't think you need to necessarily go back to the beginning. that is why I went with the 90s. also it depends on what you consider to be an action movie. One I would suggest that definitely has some action in it, but would probably fall more into the historical/war category, would be Gettysburg. Also I've not seen an abundance of reactions to this movie as a whole so it would give you something without a lot of competition as reactions go.

James Sharpe

just throwing this out there, i think y'all would have a good time appreciating the insane stunt work and choreography of some Jackie Chan films If you wanted to sort of get a look at his body of work at a glance sort of thing, you can start with a fundamental classic from the martial arts genre, one of his earliest, filmed in China, subbed or dubbed in English, where he worked with actual martial artists at the top of their fields... I am talking of course about Drunken Master from 1978 and then jump right into one of his flashier, later, more westernized films (but still iconic to the genre) like the 1995 Rumble in the Bronx Whether you decide to occasionally work your way through his greatest hits, take a deep dive through all his films, or leave it there after two, i think you'd have a good time watching them

MoulinNoir

Hot Fuzz!

Mic

Oh! I keep forgetting he's in that. I've never seen it, either.

Raven Dark

While I agree with "The Rock" being on the '90's list... come on, "Face/Off" is peak Nicolas Cage.

Thomas Yanez

Go '90's! I NEED these kids to see "Face/Off".

Thomas Yanez

Its true for the people who think that....just as it is true for the people that don't. So ya cant say what is or whats not true in regards to film which is subjective.

Tommy

The Hunt For Red October

Mike

Apocalypto. Master and Commander.

Mike

THE LAST OF THE MOHICANS (1992?) is a beautiful, powerful adventure film.

Mike

For me the golden era for action movies was the 90's. Then CGI developed

Guillaume Huet_rennibou

Guys, come on, start with the beginning. I have said this before. You have so many pop culture references pop up all the time in movies in general. So it only makes sense to start with the beginning. Now are the 80s the beginning? That is a fair question. I think at the very least for pop culture this is probably true. For me pop culture started with Miami Vice and Arnold/CVD/Rambo movies. So yeah 80s.

Hans Engelen

I voted for the 90s. My recommendations for that decade would be: -Speed (Keanu Reeves, Sandra Bullock) -The Rock (Nicolas Cage at his most Nicolas Cage-yist, and Sean Connery)

Raven Dark

You can look at any decade and find both good and bad. Going to do the bad thing and speak for others, but I think one of the reasons a lot of people like the 80s stuff is the lack of CGI for every scene. There's something special about practical effects and explosions that gives them more weight than a lot of the modern stuff. Plus at least I found that also forced more attention to the other aspects to make the story more enjoyable. Not to knock your picks, to each their own. There is some stellar stuff from the last 15 years.

Kenton Kruger

Yes def The Road Warrior! One of the best action films ever!

Matt

I chose 2010’s just for The Raid and The Raid 2. But you should also go with 80’s and watch Arnold in Conan The Barbarian, Commando and The Running Man. Also watch Stallone in Cobra, First Blood Part 2 and Rocky 3 and 4

Matt

Ministry of Ungentlemanly Affairs is better than both.

djKENTO

People think the best action movies were in the 80s but it’s just not true. Action movies have only gotten better and the last 15 years have been the 15 best years in action cinema

djKENTO

Last Action Hero 1993 staring Arnold

Jim Maio

90s Jackie Chan

Andrew Ramos

yes absolutely

Nathan Jasper, the Artist Formerly Known as Primary

Gentlemen is more crime drama than action

Nathan Jasper, the Artist Formerly Known as Primary

The Gentleman is fantastic

Derwin Riley

80s Lethal Weapon The Killer (1989) Chow Yun-Fat stars in this Hong Kong Action classic

John Colson

The Wrath of Man by Guy Ritchie or The Gentleman by Guy Ritchie!!!

Alex Ocean

Second pick would be The Road Warrior.

Kenton Kruger

Would Conan the Barbarian count under an "action" banner?

Kenton Kruger

Always the 80s unless it's Keanu Reeves then 90s 00s 10s 20s....
