Vietnam vets were treated VERY poorly by the American people when they came home. You have to remember by the end of the War, most Americans felt we shouldn't have been there in the first place, plus news about horrible atrocities committed by American troops had become widespread. Add to that the huge number of vets who came back with severe mental health issues or drug addictions, post-nam vets were really treated like trash. This movie (and also Born on the 4th of July) was a major factor in changing attitudes towards Nam vets.

Totally! When we did our "what should be our next tv series" poll, I think it might have been on there? I've heard really good things!

Wondering if you guys would ever consider doing an animated show like Arcane? I promise it will blow you away.

Benjamin Lien

Oh yes, I've heard of this film! We'll definitely add it to our list of must watch movies!

Chandra

Thank you, that's all really good to know! And you had me at "explosions"!! Haha

Chandra

Oooo thank you for the feedback!! โค๏ธโค๏ธโค๏ธ

Hell yeah. I mean, you guys really got tons out of this one and that's pretty cool -- most people seem to kind of balk at the idea of this being anything more than an action flick even after drinking in the intro and outro scenes. But, there's also room for the Where's Waldo section of the flick of course and just the appreciation of the stunts/action. Excited for The Fifth Element on the 9th, definitely top 3 big budget flicks of all time for me....not to, uh, hype it up too much or anything. And you guys are killing it on the lighting game these days; just noticed the diffusion looks great and pretty natural and it's really gonna pop when you guys go for the gusto on a big boi sensor later on and really dial the temperature in! Also, mics sound great and really do make that bit of difference. You may've had doubts in the edit or just in the raw playback that this level of gear would really matter, but trust that it does. It's gonna kill once you guys get the privileges to upload at 2160p and then have auto transcodes.

Hey S/J I do highly recommend you continue with the sequels. YES they are more straightforward action movies over the drama that this movie was but I think they are necessary in fully telling John Rambo's story. What happened in this film is just a glimpse of what the man is capable of. Definitely give the next three films a watch (yes there will be A LOT of explosions), I never saw the latest movie "Last Blood" but I have heard most fans say it is nowhere near as good as the others and pretty much mostly forgettable, but Rambo 2, ,3 and 4 are really fun. Also if you haven't already seen it I recommend "We Were Soldiers" with Mel Gibson, about the first large scale combat mission between U.S. soldiers and the Viet Cong.

Well there are plenty of movies on the subject and while they of course should not be considered as an accurate historic recounting of the topic they often do show the occasional glimpse of what it was like. In this regard maybe start of with "Good Morning Vietnam". It stars Robin Williams in one of his most memorable roles. While he plays the role of someone who actually existed most of his experiences in the movie are fiction. And yet it provides a gripping insight in the Vietnam war from a unique perspective. Robin Williams incidentally did (if memory serves) 6 USO tours between 2002 and 2013 entertaining the troops abroad with his immeasurable wit and humor. Loosing him still saddens me to no end to this day.

That's so sad for the veterans. I definitely want to learn more about that war... At this point I know next to nothing.

Chandra

Oh! Okay good to know.

Chandra

Just know if you watch the sequels they are very different movies than this, much more your stereotypical "blow 'em up, shoot a bunch of guns and stuff" movies. This one is special.

This is the movie that sold me, when I was young and you could not readily look up such details on the internet (given that it did not exist yet), on small town America. Imagine my surprise when I found out :) ... In case it wasn't clear Vietnam was pretty controversial with a lot of people at home protesting it. Vietnam veterans came home after what was arguably hell on earth and were met at the airport by the protesters who showed them nothing but contempt. The government didn't help them much either being embarrassed by the outcome. They were essentially left to fend for themselves despite many of them suffering from all manner of problems not in the least PTSD. That being said you should do the others too at some point. The first one is special sure but the others all highlight conflict all over the globe and also try, in a small way, to shed light on the horrors of war.
