Changes to the SuperTry Patreon in 2021

Hey everyone!

First off, thank you for supporting me, Joe, and all the people we’ve collaborated with this year. 2020 was tough in a lot of ways but thanks to you I was able to support the people I love and make the art I wanted to make.

SuperTry’s goal in 2020 was to make a short video game every single month of the year and we actually did! We made twelve video games this year and I’m proud of every single one of them. We somehow even managed to take care of ourselves while making them, however I think we’ve come to the limits of what we can do in a month.

When I envisioned doing the game-a-month project I knew it would take up a lot of my time each month, but I also thought I’d have time to reflect on these games. I thought I’d have time to write blogs and explain mechanics and do deep dives. The Secret Video series was my way of quickly dissecting my games but I even lost time for those in the last few months of the year.

While I’m super proud of the games we’ve made this year, I feel confident that SuperTry has adequately explored what we’re capable of producing within a one-month time limit. What could we make within two months? Three? A year?

As I hinted in the poll back in November, SuperTry will not be making a new game every month in 2021. Here’s our plan for what we want do instead:

We’ll still do game jams. There are a few jams this year that I would absolutely do again. 7DRL and GMTK Jam were super fun and I’m perfectly happy committing a month to each of those. If there’s a game jam that you really like, please tell us about it! I’d also like to bring back Patreon jams, maybe as a donation goal?

Heart Canon will continue! I really like doing this series. Eventually I’d like to do more than one episode a month, but we’ll see what my workload looks like. I’m already lining up guests for 2021!

We’re going to keep building out Bazooka Panic. Joe and I both feel like we were in the groove when we were working on BP this month. I have a bunch of ideas I didn’t get to implement and I’d like to expand on them. I think building out this game will be a good way to start introducing multi-month projects on this Patreon.

We’ll shoot for something playable/downloadable every month. Whether it’s a game jam game, a new build of Bazooka Panic, or something else we’re going to try and give you something cool to play or experience every month.

More Goals! Pizza post was kind of a placeholder anyway. I think we can do more.

Tiers will pretty much stay the same.

• Blogomancers will still get plenty of exclusive content (including Heart Canon!).
• Exe Liches, we’re gonna try and get you something to download every month.
• Credits Druids, you’ll still be credited in our games and if you don’t mind me potentially mispronouncing your name, maybe in Heart Canon too!
• Mystery Wizards and IWLYAs, I’m gonna get you the rest of the SuperTry music library and I’m still looking for ways to improve the tier!

January will be a catch-up month. I’m devoting January to recording the rest of the secret videos, updating a few of the exes, re-organizing the Patreon, and maybe even writing a postmortem or two. There’ll be plenty of exclusive content to be had!

I think the end result of these changes will be games, podcasts, and blogs that are more captivating, detailed, and fun than what I could produce otherwise.
